OT: Favorite Bingeable/ Weekly Show Right Now…

Not from the 70s but in 1983, I enjoyed The Winds of War, a 7-episode series based on the book by Herman Wouk. Historically accurate but fictionalized characters. Not sure how well it would hold up today, but at age 25 I thought it was pretty good.

North and South was a big miniseries in 1985. As soon as you guys started talking about them this one popped into my mind.

That's another one my dad watched when I was a kid. That one I actually watched with him. Loved the musical score then and still like it now and it's on one of my playlists.

I grew-up near a quarry that flooded with some buildings sticking out. Producers used that spot for the post-apocalyptic vibe.

The reviewer I posted "Critical Drinker" usually tears things apart so when he liked it I figured it must be good. His other reviews are still pretty funny - yet insightful though.

Years ago I began grumbling about the creep of the anyone-but-a-white-guy-protagonist stuff all over the TV and movie screens. Now, I see people that gave me the "you're nuts" look saying the same thing.

Women once rightfully complained about how they were portrayed a always needing to be saved and standing by and asking "what do we do now?" for the white men to decide. And black people complained about being forever portrayed as pimps, dealers, criminals or requisite tokens.

Both groups were right to complain.

And men, especially white men, are right to complain now... or just tune out and allow Hollywood and TV people and advertisers suffer when they see the box office and ratings.

As for Critical Drinker.. never heard of him but I used to read some reviewer online in the pre-youtube days and I cannot quite remember his handle... I think it had Dirty Drunk Old or something in it. OH! this was it.. Filthy Critic!

I read Filthy Critic describe defecating in a VHS box so I can see how he got the tag (he is right about CENA too who always felt like a cyborg to me)

We are a few decades into the social manipulation and now its overt . Gieco bragging about hiring 67% women last year and airlines saying they need to get rid of white pilots. Thats al intended to sow chaos and conflict. The radicals want as many groups as possible in conflict - who "wins" doesn't matter - its the fissures that count.

An easy way to see the head game is to find the topsy-turvy. "Toxic masculinity" is a menace to society - unless its women with the same behaviors and then its "celebrated". GED (Gender Identity Disorder) was known psychological issue in DSM. Then the radicals made it better than normal and needing protection from the people not going along with the con - the "transphobes" with the "real disorder". That's all a classic definition of subversion

The stuff coming out now it way up in intensity and even violence but its couched in civil rights jargon and Americans are super easy to con with that.

Saw the finale of Shogun. WOW.

For those of you who remember, was the 1970s miniseries the same story without any “liberties?”

And looking up 1970s Shogun on Wikipedia, it said that Richard Chamberlain played Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity in the 1980s. Anyone remembered that movie?

Ranks among my favorite all time shows.

Remember watching the original when I was a kid, and really disliked it. Curious to go back and check it out given it got really good reviews.

If some want to get into anime, I would recommend starting with Solo Leveling. It’s only one season but it’s really good!

Conclusion begs for another season.
I think I have been through half of it…but also saw tge movie and it is so weird to watch the tv series that follows a movie like this.
I can also understand some saying it is slow..,it is
The cinematography is great, but at times, seems to force itself into a “Hitchcock” type movie.

I actually watched GOT for the second time. Funny enough, knowing the ending, which upset a lot of viewers, made it better a second time as it really does make more sense.

Will watch it again later. But I thought the ending wasn’t so bad. Maybe because I knew about the ending when I binged about 5 years after the fact.

We really enjoyed “Only Murders in the Building” on Hulu. It has three 10 episode seasons and will come out with a fourth.

I think it was mostly the crazy followers that fell in love with one guy and just wanted to end in the way they wanted....be realistically, the way all characters ended- they were all placed in the right spots.

Just finished Loudermilk on Netflix. Some laughs, and several interesting characters.

Three seasons, episodes about 30 minutes, goes fast.
It was a very good show that was originally produced on some small streaming platform.

Really funny moments that literally made me laugh out loud. The show also bravely hired 3 actors with disabilities.

Well worth watching

Question: when do you bail on a show? I’ve been watching “Constellation” on Apple TV and 3 episodes in I find myself wondering if it’s worth it.

I bailed after episode 3. It was going nowhere and found myself not really caring what happens to any of the characters.

It has that True Detective vibe, wherein I get to the end of the season and I want to sue someone to get all the wasted time back
We both had the same feeling about Constellation as everyone else, it just got canceled after one season.

Just found a show called Jury Duty on Amazon. Pretty funny first two episodes.

It’s an interesting premise from two of the producers/writers from the office. Hidden camera show meets Mockumentary.

It’s a fake trial..everyone involved from the judge to the courtroom workers to the jurors are actors. Except one person, who thinks he’s filming a documentary about jury duty while serving on a real jury. Funny stuff happens during the course of the trial…..

Based on the first two episodes (quick 20 plus minute episodes) I’d recommend.
I loved Jury Duty.

I started watching Man in Full last weekend. The show has a good cast and the first two episodes were excellent but then the show falls apart. More garbage from Netflix. I typically check rotten tomatoes to see if a netflix show has at least a 65. Otherwise I wont consider it. This had a 47.

Dont waste your time.
