I'm a Nets fan but willing to casually watch basically any NBA game.
Starting to get really annoyed at not being able to hop into a Knicks games when they are on.

What is going on with MSG Network and Xfinity?
They were dropped literally as the season was starting.

I'm assuming Rangers fans are impacted as well.

Follow the money. Beyond that, the best I can come up with is that Comcast is a Philly based company and can give a sh!t about NY area......so beyond pure profitability there is no emotional reason for them to move on their position.

Ps....the entire premise of regional cable company monopolies is ludicrous.

KEY POINTS
  • The broadcast deal between MSG Networks and Comcast expired on Sept. 30.
  • That means customers in New Jersey and Connecticut lost access to upcoming Rangers and Knicks games.
  • Comcast said MSG viewership was extremely low and that MSG is asking for too much money to carry the channel.
  • MSG said it wants a deal with Comcast that's consistent with the deals it has with other carriers.

They are doing you a favor. The NBA is like cheerleading, it shouldn’t be a sport.

Id rather watch hide and seek.
😀

Have you see World Chase Tag?
It's amazing and was on ESPN.
The number of niche sports/hobbies out there is crazy.
Could you image when we were younger - "It's okay mom. I'm going to be an elite Tag player and make it onto ESPN"?

Many of us appreciate and like watching basketball played at all levels.

Ps...if you willfully choose not to watch teams like GSW play in terms of their ball movement and flow (and even their defense). I might question if you truely even love watching basketball.

I don't like watching corn and hole
I don't like watching kickers kick extra points
I certainly dont like watching moving picks

Basketball is a beautiful game. The NBA and modern day college basketball has become far from what basketball is supposed to be. It is too bad the average human needs a 3 point shot to enhance his viewing.

Can you imagine what golf would look like if you got credit for making longer putts
Can you imagine what football would be like for getting credit for longer touchdowns
Can you imagine what hockey would like if you got bonus points for further goals

Anyone watching the NBA would be better served going to the local animal shelter and getting a dog or cat to feed and play with.

You actually make some good points about "enhancements" to other sports.
Rewarding more talented players for being more talented.

If you make a 25yd FG vs. a 50yd FG - why would they be worth the same amount of points?
One is clearly much more difficult and requires greater talent.

So why are you even watching college basketball if you are equating it to the NBA. By your standards wouldnt it be a non-sport as well? Why even follow RU roundball or post on this board? Why not just get dvd's of the 1950's and 60's Celtics games to watch over and over and over again?

college game still has much better flow than the Not Basketball Association.

In all seriousness, I am not alone in the thinking there are too many 3 point attempts. NFL has gone back and forth with style of play. NBA certainly went back and forth with the 90s dominated by defense. Got to the point where rules changed and offense was more of a focus. Pendulum has gone too far. I can't believe the screens that I see in the NBA today (when I watch for 15 seconds)

You are like a broken record with your anti-NBA stuff, but this is a college basketball board, so it mostly falls on sympathetic ears. In the real world, you are clearly in the minority.

NBA regular season games draw 3-4 times as many viewers as college basketball games, A large majority of college basketball total viewership is driven by the NCAA tournament which draws millions of casual viewers more concerned about their brackets than the style of play. The 1 vs. 2 Duke-Gonzaga game, which was the highest rated college game since the pandemic, was outdrawn by several NBA games this season, such as Warriors-Lakers and Knicks-Celtics.

I too don’t care about the NBA, but I love the Rangers. Comcast is killing me. The blue shirts are playing very well so far this season and I’m stuck with YouTube highlights!

I miss it because MSG carried the Rutgers Football show with coach. I couldn’t care less about the Knicks or hockey.

I wonder who is watching the NBA games as most people I know prefer college basketball, not the pros. I think the college game is much more enjoyable to watch. Could one of the reasons the viewership is lower for college games is because there is so many more games to choose from?

My theory is that a lot of causal NBA fans like the superstar aspect of it - so many NBA fans have love or hate relationships with James, Curry, etc. It's all kinda odd to me. I'd rather watch basically any college game over a game between whoever the two best teams in the NBA are (I'm not even sure off the top of my head).

No one listens to records anymore....something in the cloud might be broken.

I'd like to see a study...apples to apples seeing people's thoughts and experience with the NBA. The study would be flawed because it wouldn't compare new/young fans who could be entering NBA fandom at a faster pace than those leaving.

I can't be alone in my thoughts that the 3 point shooting has gone overboard. I am in the minority about being a purist with no 3 point line and a longer shot clock. I don't think I am in the minority regarding the amount of 3 point attempts. I refuse to think people would rather see a fast break end with a 25 foot shot VS. James Worthy filling the lane, going 45 degrees to the hoop when reaching free throw line extended and getting a bounce pass from Magic.

I loved the NBA and watched a ton and new every player on every team. My disdain for the NBA was definitely gradual, it didn't happen overnight. My viewing of non Rutgers NCAA basketball has definitely declined. I am nowhere near not going to Rutgers games. I could see that changing over time, perhaps accelerated by NIL.

I hate the NBA, but no doubt the players are incredible. The skill level and athleticism is off the charts.

Well, my son and his friends ages 11-15 watch way more NBA than college.

I enjoy the NBA playoffs. The regular season can be a bit of a slog, but if the Knicks are doing well, I will watch more.

It's actually simple to understand. Especially for younger fans.
If you have no prior bias towards college athletics (such as attending a school) - then the choice is easy:
Do I want to watch the best/most skilled athletes or not?

The argument of "NBA players make too many shots. It's like shooting practice. They are too skilled" drops off a lot when it's rephrased as "I like watching people miss shots". Not exactly alluring to a casual fan.

Yes, it is probably why my sons like the NBA and college basketball. I think people like me who watched the Larry Bird Celtics and Magic Johnson Lakers as kids enjoyed that brand of basketball more than todays game. The players, though not nearly as strong as todays players, played a much rougher game. Watching players drive to the hole and paying the price was fun. 3 point field goal shooting percentage wasn't that great back then and you didn't have every player shooting them back in the day. JMO, but watching 45% of todays shots being chucked from 3 point land is just boring to me.

Back to the OP, just like when all of these disputes happen, I watch something else. Have seen more Nets than usual , some Sixers and out of market games including Celtics, Bucks, Dallas, that I would not have otherwise watched. These cable disputes are a complete waste of time

Bumping this because last night was the worst.
No football games on.
No Rutgers basketball.
Only 2 NBA games last night both on NBATV

Knicks-Twolves and then Warriors-Pistons
The dam Knicks game was blacked out on NBATV because it was locally "available" on MSG - except for Xfinity customers!!!

Now do not have WPIX channel 11. No mets game in spring or summer.

Have watched pix 11 since I was like 10. And Kiner's Korner and it has expired on my cable.

Yes!!

Not a Knicks fans but they have been pretty good last couple of weeks (not as good as the Nets of course 😉) and would like to catch them every now or then.
Is Kenny Walker still a bust?

On a sad and serious note can’t believe Louis Orr passed.

I wore #30 in HS because of Bernard King.

Used to love watching Knicks games back in the day even with Clyde and his silly comments. I haven’t watched them since Patrick Ewing played other than some bank event where nobody watched the game.

I didn't know WPIX still existed.
Do they still have the thing where a kid calls in after school and plays a video game, yelling "PIX, PIX, PIX" each time he wants to fire?

exact same here...nothing like playoff NBA basketball. the best players in the world.

i don't know how a basketball fan cannot sit in amazement and watch some of these guys even during regular season. what Jokic, Luka, etc are doing is incredible night in night out.

even appreciating Brunson now. to be that under control at all times and unflappable.
