OT- here come the Yankees

The Yankees play a brutal schedule. The Mets basically play no one. The Mets should qualify for the playoffs as they play Philly and Atlanta 18 games each. They have several games with these teams still as well as with Minnesota. The Yankees are in the toughest division in baseball playing 18-19 games vs Toronto, Boston & Baltimore.

Yep. The mets play 3 of their remaining 22 games vs. a team with a winning record. And 7 or their final 10 vs. the dreadful Phillies.
The Yankees in their final 24 games play mostly Boston, Baltimore, and Toronto....with one 3-game series vs. the Dodgers. And only 7 vs. a team with a losing record....Tampa Bay. And their last three series are vs, Boston, Toronto, and Baltimore. So, if they make it they sure as hell will have earned it.
The mets...not so much.

2 NY teams left for dead a month ago have given their fanbases a lot to watch over these next 20+ games. Good for both.

The Yankees were old and stale. Very little to hold your interest. I had stopped watching last year even though they made the playoffs. I probably hadn't watched a total of 9 innings the entire season this year till the trades and bringing up the youngsters.

Now I probably watch half a game and enjoy it again. They have more than 1 or 2 players that can go from 1st to 3rd without an oxygen stop at 2nd. The young guys have seemed to reenergize the remaining veterans. They're fun to watch.

The Mets have remained in it despite the incredible number of injuries they've suffered.

I think the Mets will make it but the Yanks will fade with their remaining schedule.

I use to work at the ballpark in Trenton for the Thunder. I've seen all of these guys (Austin, Judge, Refsnyder, Bird, Sanchez) play over the past few years.
I'm not a Yankee fan but it's great to see these kids make a difference.

I actually think this would be cool if the Yankees made the playoffs with the hungry young guys after getting rid of the satisfied, overpriced players. Great future up in the Bronx. And yes, Giradi should get manager of the year if they make the WC.

Tough schedule but they did just sweep a team that was tied for 1st in the division before the series began. Yanks are 100x more fun to watch now than the last couple of years. I've watched more games in the last month than I did from April 1st - July 31st or so.

Wow. The second highest payroll in baseball might compete for a playoff berth? Amazing.

Fvck the Yankees.

Seriously? Do you forget that the current roster no longer has A-Rod or Tex on it( EDIT - I'M AN IDIOT...TEX STILL ON ROSTER LOL...)?

Currently 6th at $167M behind Boston, Toronto, Chicago Cubs and Detroit. Not every top 6 payrolls make the playoffs, year-in or year-out, either.

I like your posts around here, but you're just being stupid with this one. It's not even an accurate representation. You know the current roster making this playoff push is no where near the group that you call the "second highest payroll in baseball."

Out of curiosity, who's your team?

Sanchez took the pressure off - Judge & Austin who have hit like crap besides tonight for Austin. But Judge can't hit a breaking ball to save his life and his strikeout rate is alarming.

Is it the Mets fault that they play in a crappie division? They still have to win with a team that was put together with scotch tape. Both teams and both managers deserves props for what has happened since the trade deadline.

Of course it's not their fault that they play in a crappy division. But that doesn't mean that it can't be pointed out that their creampuff remaining schedule contains 19 of 22 games vs. teams with losing records. Sorta makes a stretch drive for the playoffs a tad easier than a steady diet of Boston, Baltimore, and Toronto.

You are wasting your time. KJB is a freaking Cleveland Indians fan lol and the only thing he is even halfway good at is taking every opportunity to take shots at RU on TMB then coming here and playing nice.

You mean first place Cleveland Indians fan. Also a fan of world champion Cleveland Cavaliers and UFC Champion Stipe Miocic. Title Town baby.

Wait, so the second highest payroll team was the one who sucked enough to make your 6th highest have to go on a magical run to make the playoffs?

Mets div is hardly crappy, Wash and mets are better than any teams in al least. Miami has talent also. Mets defending national league champs. As far as schedule, just means mets played the tough teams like cubs already. It evens out.,..,. See you in playoffs again!!!

Please dont get this nimrod started

I think the Yankees are in a better position for a playoff run than the Mets BECAUSE of their schedule. Sure they play tougher teams, but they're chasing those same team. It's easier to catch a team you're playing. We have more control over our destiny than the Mets.

Making a Wild Card move, beat Toronto again tonight, 2-0. I didn't think it was possible, but now they are only 2 1/2 games out with only 2 teams to jump over (still not easy). Any way at least they are making the September games meaningful.

All this because they got rid of the cancer that was ruining the
team. Never should have kept that 190 hitting steroid user on
the team never mind batting 3rd and 4th. Also not hitting Tex
hitting. 3rd and 4th additionally helped. I always liked the young boys instead.

Plus those teams are also playing each other which means
someone has to lose, which will help too.

Your not paying attention, we sucked with the high
payroll guys, and are winning with the young ones, which
has nothing to do with payroll, just exceptional building up the
farm with savvy moves.

The fact that the Yankees are playing meaningful pennant race baseball in September AFTER selling off talent to restock the system is an unexpected delight in and of itself, whether they make it or not. It was such a treat to watch the game last night and pass on the execrable NFL

In looking at your remaining schedule it appears you have a lot of chances to handle your own business with mostly games against your own division foes.

You must hate Andy Pettitte too.

I came here to make a joke that I was going to turn this thread into a Yankees/Mets argument just like the Mets thread, but I see the usual suspects already handled that. :chairshot:

It's amazing that both sets of fans can't just be happy with their team and that they feel the need to [poop] on the other.

What the Yankees are doing right now after getting rid of the fossils and calling up the rooks is just amazing. They play in one of the hardest divisions in baseball. Due to the youth I do not expect them to keep it up, but if they do, it will be a great run and a very memorable year.

What the Mets have done with all the injuries (and it is A LOT of injuries) is also amazing regardless of the talent (or lack there of) in the NL and in their division. Just look at the shambles the starting rotation is in compared to the original expectations. They had to overcome a lot all over the field.

Correct.

Which is why I always laugh at the payroll argument. It means nothing.

The Yankees made some great trades this summer in the Chapman and Miller deals too to better position themselves moving forward. Great job by the front office.

Re: the schedule, if they cannot best those teams to make the playoffs, no reason to expect they would beat those same caliber opponents in the playoffs. The playoffs start now for the Yankees in a sense.
