OT: Hollywood actors alive 90+ EDIT: big changes

Solid case can be made for each of them. Palmer changed the nature of golf. Howe was legendary from pre-modern era to the modern era. Only Gretzky really challenges him for all time great. And with Summitt, that's not really in question.

Personally, I think Nicklaus was the best golfer ever, and Gretzky the best hockey player, but Palmer and Howe are knocking on the door, and in terms of legends of their games, you can certainly make a case that they are #1.

Both Palmer and Howe would be near unanimous Top 5. That's legend territory in my book.

And these are just the actors over 85.

We're starting to hit the front of the wave of the Baby Boomer generation dying, too. Boomers are aged 52-70 right now, and they had a far higher birth rate than the generation that came before them... so the rate of "famous" people dying is going to increase. Average lifespan in the US is about 79 years old, but a great many of these icons didn't exactly take the greatest care of their bodies... and for every Keith Richards who defies the odds, there are many more who don't.

From 1927-1945 (people aged 71-89), the birth rate was below 100 births per 1000 women aged 15-44 (below 80 for much of the 1930s).... from 1946-1965, it was above the 100 threshold (above 110 for much of the 1950s).

Also consider the rise in exposure afforded by changes in the television and music industries going into the 60s and 70s... the US went from 8M televisions in the start of the 50s to nearly 80M at the end of the 60s and saw the rise of the cassette tape in the 70s. Lots more exposure to new stars, who are all now getting up there in years.

In 10 years time, the Boomers are going to be 62-80. The next 15+ years are going to see a bit of an uptick in celebrity deaths than the last 15 or so, and 2016 isn't going to seem so unusual in hindsight.

This is scary as I also have seen most of the work of the people on the list. When did I become my parents...

The Dead pool should be all the Hollywood so called A-listers who won't make it to 66

I count about 8 big stars on that list.

Saw Larry Storch a few years ago walking down the Wildwood boardwalk in his F-troop uniform headed toward some type of card show at the convention center to do an autograph session - quite possibly the saddest thing I've seen.

8? Wow... talk about a high bar. Who made the cut?

The first two people on the list...Olivia and Kirk are hollywood royalty. They are the last of the big studio guard. Each are bigger than Carrie Fischer and Debbie Reynolds combined

106-year old Tyrus Wong, Disney legend known for Bambi, has passed away.

2016 strikes again!

Missed Don Rickles who passed away at 90 in 2017.

Olivia De Havilland will be 103 in July.

Gone with the Wind is 80 years old this year.

Jeez, this is one depressing thread. :flush:

Speaking about dead things, can't believe this thread was necroed.
Let dead things lie.

Including this thread. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

With Doris Day passing this week...…….she (Olivia DeHaviland) and Kirk Douglas just might be the only surviving actors from Hollywood's Golden Age. Can't think of anybody else. Anyone?
