Taylors
It was never called Taylor Ham. Before Pork Roll it was called Taylor's Proccessed Ham.

Taylor's Prepared Ham. actually.
It's been labeled as Taylor's Pork Roll since 1906.

So yes, it's Pork Roll.

Now I'm going to drive my Datsun (Nissan) to the market and buy some Brad's Drink (now called Pepsi). Then I may lay down on the davenport and take a nap.

SG you just farted on the elevator and got off ... I'm sure you're smiling at the mess you left behind ... A multi-day thread with RU fans arguing Pork Roll vs Taylor Ham yet again. It is all park roll btw! HBD to the wife and go Hogs.

You just gotta love the occasional Taylor Ham vs. Pork Roll thread!

How do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente? What about instant grits?

Instant grits are for amateurs.

I like mine with Gouda cheese mixed in.

But I will eat them with just butter as well. Grits are obviously popular in the South, very similar in popularity
to home fries up North.

That could be the start of another OT, Home fries vs. grits!

Or hash browns!

I don't care what "they" called it. When I was a kid, it was Taylor ham. Period. Then, oddly, when I got older, my mom -- who ALWAYS had it in the house -- started calling it pork roll.

All I know is I believe there is one store in all of Las Vegas that sells it. They also sell Herr's and Tastykakes products, along with some Chicago brands. Yes, it's a great supermarket. Yes, I will move closer to it now that I know.

Rutgers Stadium = Taylor Ham
High Point Solutions Stadium = Pork Roll

I'll always refer to where my team plays as Rutgers Stadium as I will always refer to my seasoned pork product as Taylor Ham

That the way they were both referred to as I was growing up... and the way it will always be
you must be over a 100

Ok so what have we learned in this thread about pork roll and Taylor Ham ?

My guess is what we've learned is that we will be having this discussion again in the near future.

But most seem to feel the same way they did at the start of the thread. Like politics and religion.

The correct response was:

No self-respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.

I am glad we finally settled this debate. BTW there is no such thing as central jersey. There is only north and south.

BTW there is no such thing as central jersey. There is only north and south.

North and South people are always trying to claim all the cool stuff in Central Jersey as their own, just stick to pretending to be NYC or Philly and leave the best part of NJ alone.

We're up in Cape Cod this week, stopped at a Portuguese bakery this morning and their breakfast sandwich is egg, cheese and Portuguese sausage called linguica, on a Portuguese roll, of course. The sausage is similar a bit to Pork Roll, slightly less salty, but with seasonings like paprika and garlic.

Janice's birthday is Wednesday and it will be a big surprise. I was impressed that they had an operator on duty Sunday afternoon and took the order for delivery Wednesday.

I asked for Taylor Ham but I think they are sending pork roll instead.

Should I be concerned?

You are south of I-78 so Pork Roll.

I'm in conflict having lived on both sides of I-78, spanning both North and Central Jersey. The great Pork Roll dichotomy.

The 6 pounds arrived toda as promised!

It will be sliced fairly thick and three cuts to the edges as I fry it up in the morning!
Shouldn't be "thick" or "thin".. just average.. like bologna.. this is a photo of Taylor's own pre-sliced pork roll in a pan.. enjoy that tangy pig! Pork roll egg and cheese.. try a toasted/buttered english muffin if good rolls are that hard to find.. mmmm mmmm

The cool kids know it as Taylor Ham. Try as you might to be cool but calling it pork roll won't get it done.

Taylor is the best no question. Case ??? Not so sure. It's Ok
Try it out.. a 2 pound unit as shown in my photo was $6.84 at the East Brunswick and Old Bridge Walmarts (newer ones with the big supermarkets in them).. it was in a stand-up refrigerated case near the other breakfast sausages. They also have the boxes of presliced Taylor Ham for $3.18.. mostly buy the Taylor.

Shop-Rite has a house brand they sell in tangy or regular... not sure who makes that for them.
