OT: Mick Jagger: “We had Taylor ham, egg and cheese! With Disco fries!" --Corrects Himself-Pork Roll

https://www.app.com/story/entertain...-video-setlist-mighty-mick-jagger/1859279001/

Was anybody there?

C'mon, Mick--it's Pork Roll!!!

“So we went to the Tick Tock Diner!” said Jagger on the stage to cheers. “We had Taylor ham, egg and cheese! With Disco fries! And sloppy joe to go!”
The crowd lost interest when Jagger brought up the American Dream complex next to the stadium. It was a mix of murmurs and light boos.
The American Dream reference was perhaps Jagger’s only misstep in the night. In fact, he seemed to grow stronger over the two hours the band was on stage. He did his famous elbows high-and-tight strut down the catwalk stage for “Miss You” and his voice was as strong as ever for “Jumping Jack Flash,” performed after 11 p.m.

Been there many times having Taylor ham egg and cheese and disco fries. All time late night favorite. Place is good overall.

What's cool is that they were very comfortable going to a very public place to grab a bite. 4-5 decades later I still listen to their 1969-73 albums all the time - Let It Bleed, Exile On Main St, Sticky Fingers. etc

3 Common things going on during these 'best years'

1. Producer/Musician in his early 20s Jimmy Miller from Brookyn , NYC- did all their great albums of that short period. He also did a lot of work with Cream.

2. Lead Guitar Mick Taylor- his unique style simply took the Stones to the peak of their legend. He couldn't handle all the craziness that came with being a guitar player for them, and was only their for their peak years.

3. Age- Like most Rock Bands, Singer - Song Writers, authors, creative artists. the 20-30s are usually the most 'creative years' and time period with the most energy physically .

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards look like a slice of pork roll that’s been in my cast iron skillet too long.

I'm sure Mick Jagger has no idea what Pork Roll or Taylor Ham is. He called it Taylor Ham because that is how it is listed on the menu at the Tick Tock Diner.

The first time I ever heard Pork Roll called Taylor Ham was when I was younger, at the Tick Tock Diner. I saw Taylor Ham on the menu, and ordered it, assuming it was a type of ham. When I got pork roll, I told the waitress that they made a mistake, that I had ordered ham, not pork roll. She told me that "taylor ham" meant pork roll. My girlfriend (now wife) told me not to send it back, because they would spit in my food.

Many years later, the manager of the Tick Tock Diner was convicted of plotting to kill his uncle, the owner of the diner. North Jersey is a strange and dangerous place.
He called it Taylor Ham because that’s what it is.

No, it is not ham. It is Taylor Pork Roll. If it is not Taylor brand, then they are misleading the public.
John Taylor originally released the product under the name "Taylor's Prepared Ham", but was forced to change the name after it failed to meet the new legal definition of "ham" established by the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906.

Bingo. Big government monkeying around in people’s business once again. Taylor ham forever!

Monday night, Mick got it right, thankfully:

Rolling Stones at MetLife: Jagger says it's pork roll, not Taylor ham, at Tick Tock Diner
If it's Monday in New Jersey, it's pork roll at the Tick Tock Diner.

Mick Jagger referred to dining on “pork roll,” not “Taylor ham,” at the famed Clifton Route 3 diner at the Rolling Stones show Monday, Aug. 5 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. He originally called to the pork-based processed meat “Taylor ham” at the Aug. 1 show.

Looks like Mick got tired of the whining from the snowflake pork roll crowd and said pork roll on the 5th to curb their tears.
He originaly got it right about what he ordered , then the PC crowd let him know it was illegal to call it that, based on a law passed the year he was born[roll]

But only in the way people do when they call all cotton swabs "Q-Tips," all inline skates "Rollerblades," or all adhesive bandages "Band-Aids" but without this unique kind of controversy. It's a regional colloquialism that took root long ago and will likely not be replaced. The actual brand is irrelevant. No one in Passaic County is even aware there are other brands, even if they routinely consume them. It doesn't matter.

If Mick Jagger had ordered "pork roll" at the Tick Tock Diner, the only thing his waitress would have served him was a suspicious look.

Wait....why couldn't it meet the standard...the new definition of "ham". What's in it then ?

Saw the Stone's on their Star Star tour ( wink wink)when Mick rode the you know what. It was at MSG and it was Bianca's birthday. I was a kid then. With all the hits, I remember the one they tore the house down with was Midnight Rambler.
I was more of a Ram's Horn, Butterfields and the Meadowbrook kinda guy and later matured into J. Parkers up in Ramsey, although I would make an appearance now and then at Ashley's in styertowne mal and Society Hill in Morristown. If I wanted to rock out it was Mother's and Soap Factory. One also in Paramus that I think ended up becoming El Cid. My buddys band used to play there. Did a great version of Paint it Black to tie it back to the original topic of the Stones.
One of those great songs (like Statesboro Blues) that sound better live.

Cali, I agree. If we had our own TV stations, we could be seeing live updates at the RWJ Barnabas Center on a nightly basis and A LOT more Rutgers news .We wouldn’t have to hear about what some drug addicts who were over the hill 40 years ago are eating .

Taylor Ham? I guess those folks would also call a PBJ sandwich a Peanut Butter and Skippy sandwich.

No that would be an S & S sandwich
(Skippy and Smuckers) or as some connoisseurs
say when ordering a gourmet PBJ :
Give me a Skip and Smuck on

And since he called it Taylor Ham that should be the last word on the subject. I have been angry with Mick and the Stones since 1981/2. Won tix through a lottery for the Tattoo You tour at the Bryne Arena. At the time everyone assumed it was going to be the last tour before retirement as the guys were getting older and had been around for the better part of two decades. Refused offers of $500 per ticket at the time from some hardcore Stones fans. Here we are nearly forty years later and they are still touring. Was even offered $50 for the stubs in the lot. For all these years I felt Mick owed me.

Now he has finally redeemed himself by declaring it Taylor Ham and putting an end to this divisive debate. Thank you Mick. All is forgiven.
