OT: New Music (Released January 2020 or Later)

Thought some of you might be interested in The Warning, a band consisting of three young Mexican sisters doing some serious hard rock. They seem to be breaking and are coming to PNC with Halestorm and the Pretty Reckless. They first got attention 7 years ago as kids with a cover of Enter Sandman and now they're on the Metallica covers album, which is pretty cool. Second clip is them all growed up. I recall seeing the Metallica video years ago, but hadn't heard of them since that until last night when Matt Pinfield posted a pic of them doing a show at the famous Troubadour in LA last night.

think you might be like 10 pages too late.

A few recent songs by Valerie June. A singer/songwriter I’ve been aware of for 4 years or so. She is unique, a terrific singer. The term “artist” gets thrown around casually these days and often doesn’t apply. This is a musical artist.

One of my favorite live, touring bands today is The Tedeschi Trucks Band. They have released the first album of a new 4 album set “I am the Moon”. This Is the most ambitious project in the band’s 12 year history. They will release the albums separately over the next several months with accompaning short films.. The concept for this project is a reimagining of the 12th century Persian poem “Layla and Majnun”. This poem was the inspiration for the Derek and Dominos classic “Layla”. They are a working, touring band and came up with this idea during the Pandemic shutdown. Below are a 3 of the 5 songs released on the first album entitled “Crescent”, including a beautiful 12 minute instrumental “Pasaquan”:

Thanks, I remember hearing a song of hers years ago, but had forgotten about her. Really liked "Call Me a Fool" but the second one was just ok, for me. And nice cover of "Fade Into You" although for those of us who seriously pined for the most winsome woman in alt/indie rock (Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star - look up "winsome" and you'll see her picture, lol) back in the early/mid 90s, the original is untouchable.

Thought I posted songs from one of my new favorite artists last year, but I apparently didn't. Time to rectify that. Love 21-year old Arlo Parks, whose debut album in 2021 got her a Grammy nomination in 2022 for best new artist and was #3 in her native UK. My favorite song of hers, so far is "Black Dog," below, (has an awesome opening line of "I'd lick the grief right off your lips") and her newest song, "Softly," which is making it bigger here in the US, was released a couple of months ago.

One more. Here's the fairly new Irish post-punk band Fontaines DC with their lead single from their 3rd album, which just came out. Also included a 2nd song from their debut album from a couple of years ago. For anyone familiar with Billy Bragg, you can almost hear him in the band's frontman's voice.

Last one for tonight. Can't believe nobody posted anything from Wet Leg, the breakthrough indie artist from last summer, as their first two singles went viral. The first, Chaise Longue, and the second, Wet Dream, are both below - infectious indie pop to me. Their first album came out in April.

I’m taking my daughter to see the Lumineers next weekend. I’m so excited to hear their new stuff live. They are truly amazing in person if you ever get the chance to see them.

Omg ive been waiting so long

Immediate classic

Yeah Yeah Yeahs come in and save rock and roll
I am so split on the YYY's. Some of their work I love and some I dislike. Same thing with their shows having seen them a few times. The first time was at Maxwell's in the mid-2000s and my friend and I both were underwhelmed - way too much "performance art rock" and over-the-top showmanship for our tastes. Also saw them in 2008 and 2016 and liked them much more at those shows (bigger crowds probably meant more trying to be commercial).
