If the Met's feel deGrom is leaning elsewhere, they should actually go balls out on Judge and make a real play on him.
To follow up on that thought, I offer the linked article. The thesis is that the rest of MLB had damn well better hope that Cohen succeeds in re-signing deGrom. Because if Cohen can't, he will be pissed. And while Uncle Steve is generally a lovable guy, y'all wouldn't like him if he's pissed. Trust us on that one.

The big problem is that outside of the Met's FA's, Judge and SS's- there is not a whole lot of guys that I would want or would fit our need.
Roden would be the next biggest good fit.

I wouldn't mind if they went hard after him if deGrom bolts but we would have to find a way to bring Bassitt and one of either Carasco or Walker back with him.

But there is no one to replace Nimmo- Diaz is our number 1 priority. But man, there is no one outside of Judge I would want in the OF unless Marte could cover CF, move McNeil into the OF and get one of Turner or Bogarts. Maybe even Nolan A at 3rd and move Escobar to 2nd.

We have to keep Nimmo.

The good thing is, Nimmo seems to really want to stay. I would love to see a quick Diaz/Nimmo signings. Then work on the rest.

I also think Cohen completely understands how fast we can drop away from being a 90+ win team.
It was only a few weeks ago that Cohen hinted that he loved Nimmo so much he threw out the tidbit he could see Nimmo as the next Mets Captain. The kid plays with a great love of the game, drives pitchers nuts every at bat getting the pitch count up. Some things he does never shows up in the box score and those that know the game can see it.

ICYMI - looks like the ghost runner rule (how appropriate for Halloween!) will still be with us. This is directly from Rob Manfred, in an interview with Chris Russo:

“We haven’t finalized that. My strong sense is we’re gonna have it again. The clubs like it, the players like it,” Manfred said. “I think overall the fans like it. I think it does bring sort of a focus to the end of the baseball game in a way that has been positively received.”

It is rare that players and owners agree on anything. They agree on the ghost runner. Not sure fans do. But so far at least, there is no evidence that the rule is turning anyone away.

The ghost runner is great news for the Mets as their 10-2 record led MLB.
Having a strikeout closer affords teams with a great advantage.
Houston,a team without one,went 5-6.

Green gate is most likely required OSHA safety distance for construction. Just going to come straight across with wall by removing the 4-6ft ?? Bump out along wall

Interesting- I saw something from Eppler- maybe a podcast or something. Said that Marte can still play CF if needed and they could go after a corner OF.,,

The ghost runner had its purpose during Covid but bringing it back is an abomination of the game.

IMO, marathon games that are decided because one manager finally gives in and uses a position player to pitch, is the abomination. As is having 300 people in the ballpark at 1:00 AM to witness it.

Yeah I’m done with the 50 inning games wrecking the pitching staff, etc. They should leave the rule for the playoffs at this point though if they are going to keep it.

Your argument about the depleting the pitching staff has merit. I’d rather have a tie game after three innings (like the NHL and NFL) than the ghost runner. However, even though there are positive changes on the way regarding the duration of games, more can be made. The pitching clock is a start. I’d also like to see them implement something like 3 time outs per game. Watching these middle aged pitching coaches and managers saunter out to the mound every inning doesn’t need to happen. Even warm-up pitches on the mound is questionable.

I wouldn't call it a bandwagon, just National League fans. In this case, the fact Houston has made the Yankees look so pedestrian to the point of embarrassing themselves with all kinds of excuses has left a warm spot in my heart for the Astros forever.😇 PS. Your correct, Phillies fans would never root for the Mets, and that's 100% understandable. Must say I'm glad Thor didn't pitch a gem, that warmed my heart as well, lol

To me, this is great news. They can have him because of what's perceived to be the amount of years his agent wants. They can have deGrom also if they want to go over 3 years. Diaz, no way I want the Yankees to get him.
My gameplan for the Met's would be Diaz/Nimmo first. Then I offer deGrom 3 years at 1 mil over Max's- if he doesn't take it, you have to let him go. Need Bassitt back and get either Carasco or Walker back. Try to get some good middle relief.
My big splash that isn't a current Met would be either Turner or Bogarts and see if they are open to 2B, move McNeil into LF.

What is the time frame to reach out to players after the WS ends? Is it 10 days?
The team has a five day exclusive window to negotiate and sign its free agents. After that, the player is fair game to all.

Mets were hoping to sign Diaz within the five day window, but I think that is a long shot. I do think Diaz re-signs eventually though. Anyone else, I am not so sure.
