Very true but far from the worst start. After two games the Devils are first place in the Metropolitan, Hughes has 5 points, Bratt 2 goals, Dougie 2 goals. Three points out of four. Need better defensive play and some others to pick up some goals.
3 of 4 points is fine. The Devils better buckle down and realize they will get the opposition's best shot after last year.
Can't win them all, and we could easily be at 0 points with our play so far.

That combo produced in the preseason. Mercer doesn’t fit there. He belongs with Palat and Haula. Same motor.
They’ve played maybe 4 good periods through 3 games thus far. Hughes, Bratt, Hamilton and McLeod have looked good. Meier is really fighting it, as is Mercer. Hischier is invisible. Ruff doing what Ruff does. Discriminately benching some, while excusing others.
I like Coach Ruff after his extension. No more nice, as he benched Timo and others at the end of the last game. Then yesterday, he tore into the team, and even made them do suicides.
Coach is 65 and has never won the Cup. After the last 36 hours he might be the most hungry Devil.
BTW Timo is a historically slow starter.

Haula and Nosek will be out with injuries, so Chris Tierney is scheduled to make his Devils debut.

Nemec got turnbuckled last Friday. Those hits are so dangerous.
I’d like to see Miller in for Smith at some point. Smith is a penalty machine and is the only one Ruff won’t bench.
Most definitely! Miller should be in. If Smith is on the ice, he becomes a liability. He needs to be a locker room voice only, as much as possible.
Bratt and Jack on separate lines.
He's unbelievable. Sometimes he reminds me of Niedermeyer. Looks like he's in warmups out there, his skating is so effortless. Right until he makes the move that releases him and the puck's in the net and everyone is asking WTF just happened.

Devils pretty much dominated but just couldn’t convert or the the ny goalie made spectacular saves.
On another note, Schmid has as many points as Kakko in two less games.
I wouldnt call it a dominance. The 0-3 score on 5 v 5 wasnt indicative of the play.
Defensive breakdowns and shaky goaltending is oart of the game and is a concern.
I know the Devils will be fine, but yesterdays hame didnt make me feel any better about the way they are currently playing.

Your post just reminded me of that clip, but yeah I agree it's still very early and it's a very good team. No reason to be concerned.
The reality of things….the only thing that matters is qualifying for playoffs.
NHL is my favorite professional league, but 2 things i hate
1. Everygame should allocate same amount of points
2. Change the playoff seeding. Not sure if it is 1 thru 16, but dont like what it is now

Yeah making every game worth the same number of points seems to be supported by an overwhelming majority of people, but the NHL won't budge on it because it artificially keeps the standings close. Frustrating. I personally don't mind the playoff format, it creates more rivalry matchups. It just isn't popular here because of how good the Metropolitan Division is.
Nico to be reevaluated on Monday for an upper body injury. He didn't come out for the 3rd after he was hit into the boards behind the goal.
I really hope he is soar and not concussed! I want the Devils to bottle the effort they showed against the NYI.
