Monmouth Park will start the season without allowing fans to bring in their coolers again!
Drazin puts it on ABC rules and insurance but hopes to be back to normal. Let's see if things change in time for the Haskell.

Wow that’s a shame . I would have to guess this was Murphy’s call?
The insurance reason and being invasive checking coolers due to covid is bs .
i guess you can’t bring food in either ? Makes it difficult to actually have a picnic in the picnic area .

Yeah. How do you that if you can’t bring your own stuff?

Can someone explain why Wall Speedway allows you to bring in coolers but Monmouth doesn’t?

Last year's restrictions were understandable. Was good that they didn't completely close but it was a blood bath financially. This year looks to be the same. I'm sure Murphy had his say but it's a combination of a lot of things. The ABC put a ton of heat on them in 2018 so don't expect checking coolers to go away ever even if the cooler ban is lifted. Another big problem is getting enough employees which is a problem every where. Unlike PARX permanent ban on coolers this isn't a money grab. No one went last year with the ban in place.

Money grab - they want folks to buy the food and drinks from them.
It's not a money grab. If no one goes they don't make more money they make less. And nobody went last year! This is going to hurt Monmouth Park just like last year. The only hope is that this was a full meet decision. They left the door open to adjust later.

Once Monmouth got sports betting, they pulled coolers and food unless you were in the picnic area. We used to sit behind the benches for years, in the shade, and had a huge family tradition every Fathers Day and Mothers Day. As far as I'm concerned, they "forked" the people that kept that place afloat until sports betting became legal. The other "excuse" was too much underage drinking, yet the picnic area seemed like they looked the other way, since it was kind of far from the food court. Such bull$hit, if you ask me.

side note - that former jockey from Brazil who is training now has popped up at Monmouth, he has few horses going tomorrow

Race 2 #6
Race 7 #2
Race 8 #1

MP has bigger problems than coolers. The new crop rules have pissed off the jocks something fierce. Anyone's guess on who will be riding this meet.

Such a shame. I grew up less than 2 miles from MP, so many great memories. It will always have a place in my heart, but all my action has moved to the NYRA tracks.
Same here. I went 4 times last year. One Saturday I didn't bet one live race. I'll go on the 4th to keep a 35 year old tradition with my older brother going. I'll have more trips this summer to Saratoga than Monmouth. Not allowing coolers has nothing to do with it.

As I posted early no one is/was going because of the ban on coolers. So they are not selling more food or beer. Plus programs. Because of the ban they made it free parking and admission just to get come. So they lost out on that revenue. I went 4 times last year. 4th of July, 2 Saturdays and a Sunday. 4th was the worst. Maybe 500 people there. Way under 1000 the other 3 days.
Monmouth Park saw first hand what happened to PARX when they banned alcohol. Their money grab was not about selling more beer but to permanently turn it into an overflow for the casino. They could care less about the horse race fans. And the track fans barely break a couple hundred on their best day.
Monmouth knows it's bread and butter is the picnic area. Parking, admission and programs add up quickly with good crowds.

It is very important to keep live horse racing in New Jersey. We need as many horse farms stay as horse farms in the state. If not, they will end up destroyed forever turned into Amazon warehouses, Costco’s, condos, farmettes, etc. Just keep trying different ideas to keep them open. Wonder if Monmouth, Freehold, and The Meadowlands could be used as jai alai frontons part of the year when there isn’t racing. Seating and facilities are already there. Don’t know how much it would cost to put in the actual jai alai facility. I remember the night The Meadowlands opened in 1976. My Dad has no interest in betting, but the opening of the entire New Jersey Sports Complex had been so anticipated, we decided to go just to see it. It was like going to a football game. They never expected the size of the crowd. I think it was 42,000. I wanted to get right near the horses to take pictures, but there was no way with a huge crowd like that. We had a lot of fun, though just seeing the new track and stadium.

Meadowlands is doing better of late. Its still the flagship of harness racing. It survived that dark period from 2009-2012..if it closed the whole industry would have bit the dust

Still need slots there though

New Egypt Speedway, which is private, allows coolers, food, and non-glass beverages.
My wife and son are big fans of car racing. We have been to Dover , Wall Stadium including last year , and a practice at New Egypt. This year we are going to a race at Pocono and back to New Egypt . When we went to Wall last year the crowd size was limited to 500 . It was WELL over that . A few thousand I would say.

Dennis Drazin is in bed with developers and can't wait for Monmouth to fail with no coolers so he can make a bazzillion when he sells.

I thought Darby owned this and he was part of it. My bad if incorrect.
Just a lease. Darby Development is the manger and operator of the track. Listen I didn't think Dennis was the best choice to lead Monmouth Park when the horseman took over however he certainly isn't the bad guy here. Nobody wants Monmouth Park to succeed more than he does.
What I'd love to know is the deal between William Hill and Monmouth Park. Its been a secret from day 1.

How do you feel about the whip ban. All good until there is a photo finish.
From a gambling point doesnt bother me as its all equal. Otherwise it is stupid. Wait until a horse starts to veer left or right and there is a big spill. They will blame the jockey of course. Like driving a car without a steering wheel.

Please explain how it is a money grab
I usually host a bbq a the track as well as a family lunch in the dining room. Passing on both this year due to the changes they made to both areas. We used to pay for a reserved area and bring in the food and drink. No more. They now want $1000 for the picnic area plus $32.00 for hot dogs and burgers per person and another $27.00 per person for beer and wine. Gratuity not included. My 50 person bbq would cost 4k not including gratuity.
Not doing the family lunch as they made it a limited buffet that you must buy tickets at $33.00 for plus pay for beverages and an 18% administrative fee. Does not include any gratuity as well. This would run me $500.00 before drinks and tip for my ten person lunch. Might be worth it for a high end champagne lunch but not for the crap they are offering. For the 1st time in many years I will not be spending any time at Monmouth.

A $1000 for the picnic area? Monmouth gets entry money and program costs. About $15 per. All the rest goes to the vendor's. Monmouth makes zero to supply food and drinks at all the concessions and picnic area except Lady Secret and the bar upstairs in the clubhouse. They get a one time payment from the concessions. But I don't blame you on passing. Way too much $. I ran a 4th of July party for over 20 years. We did our own food and beer.

MP announced today that BYOB and coolers will be allowed in the picnic area in 2022.

It’s better than nothing.
Wait. People kept telling me it was money grab.

Anyway can't wait until opening day 2022. And I'm bringing 2 coolers lol.
