So tired of hearing about JD Davis and his hard contact rate. Who gives a damn when you dont even make contact half the time. Its a joke that we have him and Escobar in two key middle of lineups spots in the batting order. Canha has really faded also. Guess that really shouldn't surprise me though. Didn't know anything about him before we got him but a quick search and I found out he's a career .247 hitter. We need another middle of the lineup bat if we expect to keep our division lead and be contenders. And i dont want to hear but we lead the league in runs per game cause the numbers have began falling.

Give me the ball and go clean out your locker. Bum!! Too many games like this in June where we've been blown out. Combination of starting pitch that is far worse than it was in April and May and trash middle relievers who dont even belong on a roster.

Shreve shouldn't be on this team in the morning.

I've been complaining the good part of the last 2 months it has made no sense to bat McNeil so low in the lineup.

Does anyone think Escobar plays too deep at 3rd?

Is Buck giving up on the game by bringing Shreve?

Why is McNeil batting behind Escobar and DJ? Leaving a lot of ducks on the pond.
And why is Lindor still batting third?

I’m not happy with a lot of things but when you have a guy that is in the top 5 or so of producing runs…
And though he is 0-5 in the last 2 games, he was 6-13 in the 3 games before that.
guy will end up with 100+ runs and 100+ RBI and somewhere around 25 HR.
That is usually a number 3 type of guy

Either the Astros are that dammed good or the Mets are in trouble until Scherzer and deGrom comes back… maybe. Mets need The GOOD Walker to step up today and stop the bleeding.

IMO, that Astros are that damn good. Cheating or not. Varsity had a tough time with them and only pulled out 2 games because of Judge's 2 walk off home runs IIRC.

As usual, some fans are freaking out and picking apart individual players. It's what some Mets fans do.

Upcoming series against middling Texas, then crappy Marlins, Cincinnati and the Cubs, with 3 games against Atlanta sandwiched in before the All Star Break. The Atlanta series will be a good measuring stick, and hopefully the Mets overperform against the so-called "lesser" competition up until the break.

Mets record so far this year against what may be considered elite competition. Forgive me if someone was left out:

Giants: 4-3
Dodgers: 2-2
Padres: 1-3
Brewers 2-1
Astros: 0-3

Overall: 9-12

That's fine, but still telling of the team the Mets are.

Let's look at runs scored:

Giants: 4-3 (44 runs: 6.2 per game)
Dodgers: 2-2 (15 runs: 3.75 per game)
Padres: 1-3 (14 runs: 3.5 per game)
Brewers 2-1 (11 runs: 3.66 per game)
Astros: 0-3 (6 runs: 2 per game)

Pitching has not seemed to hurt the Mets, but a more listless offense has hurt against the Padres and Astros. Dodgers, Astros and Padres are top 5 in ERA in MLB. Mets are #16. Of course, pitching factors in, but Mets average 4.88 runs per game. As always, difficult to draw firm conclusions on small sample sizes.

All is not lost. Of course, getting Scherzer and deGrom will help. But the bats need to wake up against better pitching.

Carrasco really stinks now.
Carrasco has an interesting contract. This is his last year. The Mets hold a club option for 2023 at $14MM with a $3MM buyout. However, the option automatically vests if he pitches 170 innings and passes a preseason physical. He is now at 81.2 innings. Almost halfway there, almost halfway through the season. Barring injury, I think he gets to 170 - unless the Mets see to it that he does not.

These situations can be tricky.

He might see to it that he doesn't by only making it through 4-5 innings.

Interesting that DiComo ranks the Mets needs as Bullpen, Hitting, and Starting Pitching - in that order. I agree. I don't want the Mets to give up anything of consequence for a starter.

This team is constructed under the premise that they will be a heavy favorite 40% of the time. If that proves to be untrue (i.e., if deGrom and Scherzer cannot return at full strength) then the Mets will not win. Period.
Band Aids won't help.

Agree completely. The Mets without deGrom and Sherzer are not better than the Braves. Even with them, I don’t think they are better…regardless of the current records. However, if they are both healthy, the Mets CAN beat anyone in any playoff series, particularly is each of them pitches twice in the series…similar to years ago when the DBacks had Johnson and Schilling.

Why are the Mets putzing around with Escobar at 3B? Guillorme should start there every game.

Walker wasn't the one you needed to be worried about. He's been our best starter for a pretty good stretch now. It's the 1-9

It’s interesting- Astros have a hell of a team but their bench is maybe even worse than ours
