OT: oh oh oh Ozempic !

Just put it in the public water supply then! Or just hand it out with the daily regimen of statins the pharmaghouls think we all need. Never ending ocean of profits
Lots of evidence and data to back up putting Lipitor in the water supply. That's one of the most remarkable medications of all time. Saved millions of lives (and counting).

Whoops!

Trendy weight-loss drugs making headlines for shrinking waistlines may also be shrinking the human heart and other muscles, according to a new University of Alberta study whose authors say should serve as a “cautionary tale” about possible long-term health effects of these drugs.
“If people have been prescribed these drugs, then the benefits should likely far exceed the risks,” says Jason Dyck, lead author on the study, pediatrics professor in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and a member of the
Women and Children’s Health Research Institute.

“That’s why preserving muscle is so important, especially during weight-loss treatments — it’s not just about staying strong, but about keeping our whole body resilient and healthy.”

In the commentary, the authors suggest that muscle loss due to weight reduction may also exacerbate conditions like sarcopenic obesity — characterized by a combination of high body fat and low skeletal muscle mass — which contributes to poorer health outcomes, including cardiovascular disease and higher mortality rates.

lol ! “ Perscribed “
The doctors and PA’s give them out like candy.
Same as ED pills (so a friend told me !)

Please just put in the hard work, diet and exercise. Change your bad habits. No quick fixes or shortcuts, no diets, no drugs. If you don't change your bad habits that led to your weight gain, then they will be waiting for you to regain the weight you lost once you stop your diet or any weight loss drug.

David Goggins was speaking to Joe Rogan and he said as soon as he wakes up he goes for a 5 mile run, Rogan was like that's great. Goggins replied no I hate it, it sucks. I love David Goggins.

And that's reality. I go to the gym whether I want to or not. Sometimes I really enjoy the workouts, but sometimes it's just putting in the time and doing what I have to do.

David Goggins has quite an amazing life story. Raised by an abusive and horrible father. 300 lbs as a young person. Here's a clip from a Rogan podcast with him. He drops a lot of f bombs, but they are very punctual ones.

sorry not giving up my pop tarts...these ozempic queens need to learn some self control and put themselves on a workout regimen
Don't think it is about learning self-control for some. One of the pharma bro dicks who is on ignore thinks that way too. IMO, it's like alcoholism, either one has a predisposed inability to suppress the satiety signal sent by the body to eat hedonistic foods. Some people can beat this, but for others, medicine is a last resort. I say this because they are finding many indications for GLP-1 drugs beyond suppression of appetite.

Keep your barbs to yourself. I work out 4 times each week and try to limit calories to about 2000-2200 a day. I was plateaued and couldn’t lose weight. If I dropped down to less than 1500 calories I would get the shakes and feel weak in the gym. Started using wegovy and have dropped 19 pounds in a couple months. I don’t need a no nothing bench jockey telling me I need self control and a workout regimen.

Totally agree, and in line with research I have read about satiety signaling in some people and controlling cravings. Some people can inherently do this. I'm a little skeptical about what happens when one goes off these products, but time will tell. Congrats on the weight loss.

Congrats! These medications are amazing and are saving millions and millions of lives. They are also improving the quality of lives of patients so they can be more productive and satisfied.

This has been the biggest healthcare breakthrough since statins.

Long term health risks and forever medication
+1
The long-term health risks of being fat are MUCH greater than the risk of being on a forever medication (and once again, not really sure patients need to be on a GLP forever, at least some have been fine with reducing their dose or discontinuing entirely).

Blood pressure medicine is a forever medication. Do you recommend people not take them? Blood pressure meds probably added at least 5 years to life longevity.

I think if you lose the weight it might come back fast for some people but others it might take 3-5 years. I can lose weight by controlling what I eat but over 4 years might add 10-12 pounds. I just lost 12 pounds this last month but really cut the carbs and had salad for lunch and 1500 calories or less. It seems like I have to eat less and less to lose the weight but I’m 68.

I got a script for O back in August. Shocking it went thru as I am not a diabetic (A1C is still around 6 but has been moving up but my weight is certainly an issue). Tried some other pills but they were terrible. Anywho...$500/month because I'm Medicare. Can also get it for $500 for a 3 month supply (crazy its the same price! ) but nobody will fill a 3 month supply now due to supply. More crazy.
Failed back operation last October and I just can't walk. Drinking and sitting. Not a great combo. Would love to jump start things and give it a try but at $6k for the year I just can't pull the trigger. $2k I'm in. Just praying supply side opens up but my guess is the demand gets exceeding supply increases.

I think your health is more important than $6k vs $2k. I'm sure there are ways to get a better price. I know the big O is covered on most Medicare gap insurance.

That is my Gap Insurance Part D rate. I'm hoping to see it just come down a bit more and/or the supply to increase in the new year/new admin (hope)

Like Hims and Roe? (I think it is roe)...I've haven't looked again recently but they were up there...and to be honest..I'm VERY comfortable with needles but I am not when sticking myself "free hand" like in those commercials. (a pen is a different story).

That happens to a lot of people. I know from the exercise side of it, one of the things they recommend is to completely shake up your workout regimen.
I do vary my workout. Do cardio and weight trading plus work out with a trainer once a week. Even though u do need to lose a few pounds still see a lot of benefits from working out regularly. Last week my BP was 118 over 72. My cholesterol is within the accepted ranges. Had an angioplasty last year that showed I had zero buildup in my arteries. Also have had both knees replaced. Because of exercising I was fully cleared after 3 weeks for the left and after 8 weeks for the right.

At least for Monjauro I believe the FDA said there was wasn’t a shortage anymore so compounding pharmacies won’t be able to sell it next year, think maybe in March.

I don’t know about the other drugs.

Nice job and keep up the good work! The goal for everyone is to optimize health to the best of their ability to reduce risk of developing cardiovascular and other diseases in the future. As an aside, you had an angiogram which is a diagnostic evaluation of the coronary arteries (you said they had zero buildup). Angioplasty indicates intervention was done on a coronary blockage.

If people ate sensibly and exercised, blood pressure meds can possibly be reduced and/or eradicated. Reduction in salt and weight loss promote lower blood pressures. Exercise results in vasodilation of the arteries which can last up to 8 hours, meaning lower blood pressure as well. Those who can resist their vices, exercise and keep their weight down might not be on forever BP meds. But a large percentage of people would rather forgo hard work and opt to swallow a handful of pills down their gullet, exposing themselves to potential side effects. Go figure. I'll get off my soap box now.

92.5% of people over 65 use blood pressure meds. Most start their blood pressure meds in the 50-60’s. 96% of over 75 are on blood pressure meds. It’s not all about weight. My parents never exercised or were overweight but had several blood pressure meds , dad lived to 97 and mom is 94.

I noticed quite a few posters think all health issues are due to weight.

@LETSGORU91 is correct regarding younger people on how high BP can be mitigated. However, you are also correct about age. As people get older, all of our veins, arteries, capillaries lose their elasticity and become more rigid. This increases BP, which is why the vast majority of older folks need medication.

Also, please note, the goal for older folks is not 120/80. It's staying below 140/90 unless you have a risk factor like diabetes and then your target is 130/85.

Best to start with an ARB (like Benicar) and then add amlodipine (CCB) as needed.
