OT: Our bills will be changing

Andrew Jackson wasn't a founding father.

He was someone who hated the banking system/idea of paper money, ignored the supreme court, and instigated the trail of tears.
^These are facts.^
FACTS

Fact: a thing that is indisputably the case.

I don't see any reason for him to be honored on our paper money.

I should have been a bit more clear. I am more in favor of replacing Jackson on the twenty than I was with the idea of replacing Hamilton. I do not like the political reasoning of A. Hamilton, but I appreciate the contributions made to our country.

My remarks about the Founding Fathers was the idea that since we're changing the twenty, we should also make the other denominations more "contemporary." If we are to change the appearance of the monetary system, perhaps it would be more appropriate to transform the BACKS of the bills to represent moments in history.

By your reasoning, FDR should be removed, he didn't so much ignore the Supreme Court, but attempted to raise the number of justices from 9 to 14 to give himself a super majority in about everything he did. This might have been one of the biggest potential power grabs by a President in the history of the country. This too, is a FACT. "Indisputably the case."

In terms of "choosing one existing paper money face to replace", I definitely favor replacing Jackson over Hamilton. In terms of "choosing new faces for all the money from all the historical figures in US history without giving any weight to those currently on our money", Hamilton wouldn't make the cut.

what is disturbing to me is a radical change. I can see the additions of Martin Luther King Jr and maybe a Susan B Anthony or Eleanor Roosevelt phased in because I think that gives representation but the sheer amount of change to several women who I and probably most people have never heard of seems a bit of an overkill and agenda pushing
This is Obama's agenda. The dictator President. Showed no respect for Winston Churchill, and now he's pissing on one of the greatest American's. Surprised he didn't put himself on the $20, just wait a few years and that will come too.

Jim McPherson is at a nearby NJ school you might have heard of .
You're right "Battle Cry..." is a good one to use.

Like on the playing field I try not reference certain schools. I try to the same on the academic side.

The only Old Nassau person I like to use/quote if possible is @SkilletHead2, but that's just me. :)

Unreal... you do realize that there's been a TON of pressure to get a woman on ONE of our bills for a long time, right? It's not Obama's agenda. It's America's.

Jeez, and I've been afraid to chime in for fear this site is full of Jersey Democrat liberals. These posts are a hoot.

Why are we so afraid to recognize the simple truth that even back then (whether it be 100, 300 or 500 years ago) many conscious individuals and groups recognized that slavery was evil? Why treat these adults like children who didn't know right from wrong or as if they were incapable of critical thinking or empathy for their fellow man?

It's not like there weren't examples (both historical and current at the time) of cultures and nations refined enough to outlaw slavery or promote gender equality so the whole cultural excuse is a very weak one. People accepted and fought to maintain slavery because it was in there own self interest.

They all knew it was wrong, just like all of us today know it is wrong.

It's almost like today's fundamentalists states who oppress women. You don't think these people know that other countries have had women as their heads of state, or have never learned/heard of strong, intelligent, powerful women (queens, cleopatra, Joan of arc,etc.).

They know women are capable beings, but they oppress them because it's in their self interest to preserve their power over another being.

Winston Churchill, while overall a great leader (but a real jerk in WWI), is not an American, nor did he do wonderful things for Americans. We helped him, not the other way around. And there is a bust of Churchill on the second floor of the White House today. That is plenty good enough. MLK, Jr., on the other hand, was a great American, and of personal relevance to this president.

As to Andy Jackson, whew! A gazillion positives and a gazillion negatives. I've always liked him because of his nickname and the fact that his portrait on the $20 makes him look like a cross between Henry Fonda and Clint Eastwood. We live in a time, though, where one's negatives trump one's positives. It seems like you can have done a million great things, but if you have a couple of bad ones, you're out the door in terms of history. And Ol' Hickory has a ton of bad ones. Easily one of the most interesting characters in our history. I might have to find me a good bio on him. Would be fun to read.

And btw, Winnie's ma was a Yank. He could have been President!

Well I guess I have seen it all, he is now quoting "A Chorus Line"!
