OT: PGA and LIV Golf to merge….

At the end of the day, we can only go by what's been said and what is in the agreement - and by the leaked agreement and the words of the PIF Governor, it appears the PGAT retains most of the control here in the new entity. Not that the PIF has no say, just that it appears the PGAT has overall control of the new entity.

Checks is one thing but at the end of the day, guess who lilkely contributes the most to the creation of the new entity? In other words, which entity is contributing the most value/equity into the new entity? It's not the PIF.

Plus, I wonder if this thing even gets off the ground. If Congress wants to muck this up, they are gonna muck it up good.
I agree. But it's why I always hate the rush to judgement/people guessing on what a deal will become. This is where social media is a bad thing (ex. leaks). I get people talking about things generates interest. However, it also generates division (which can be stupid at the end of the day because these decisions really don't impact our livelihood). I am more of a wait until all the details come out type of person. Anything else is pure speculation on how business generally gets done. All the rest is just for clicks since we have way too many media types just creating content.

Likely more to come, since the Saudi's will be running the show:

How come they are not sending anyone to the hearing if they are running the show?

wonder when the Saudis will make a run at the NFL. At this point the saudis have a legit shot to control all major professional sports in North America

Because there is no way the Saudis or Yasir want to sit there and have to face tough questions or criticisms of their regime. It's a no win situation for them. Them testifying isn't going to change what the government does or does not do in relation to the merger.

Stephenson is as useless as tits on a bull. He ran AT&T into the ground. Him leaving is inconsequential.

What we did learn today is that no one still knows the details, Norman may be cut out, PGA definitely hamfisted this crap out of some of this and the PIF's initial proposal was off the charts right down to asking Augusta to make Yassir a member.............. LOL.

Off all people he now knows a bad deal before it's done. After buying DirecTV and Time Warner. You would think he knows a bad buy by now. He may not know how to run a business but he sure knows the financial impacts. Plus by resigning he didn't have to face Congress this morning.

The right conclusion!!! Liv is a closed 54 hole exhibition open to the same 48 players of which 75% are has beens. Nobody earns their spot in the exhibition its handed to them.
I give credit to 2 and only 2 players on that exhibition ition tour Varner who flat out said anyone on this tour to play less is full of shit they are there for the guaranteed money. Bruce Koepka who said he's had 3 knee surgeries he's there for the 130 Million. You want the guaranteed money you sacrifice elsewhere. Unless you are a past major winner or find a tour that let's you play you are not major bound.....but have no fear chances are you are way overpaid for your skillset

It's not that complicated. Maybe OWGR goes away. Seems like it could based on comments here.

Since the announcement of the "merger" there hasn't been a word about what's going on. Starting to believe this will fall apart.

Then the lawsuit comes back and the PGA has to disclose everything (which they are desperately trying to avoid).

I’m sure Saudi’s have nothing to hide
Saudi's don't care. They have a trillion dollars to play with. Why do you think the PGA came crawling to them for a deal? Reread past posts to refresh your memory.

Everyone already knows what's in it.
Knowing it publicly and having a court of law make anti-trust rulings based on such information are two very different things. PGA is desperate to avoid the latter. Their name is already mud.

Clocks ticking. This has to be done before the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in January. The real season starts.

The idea that the Saudi's don't care isn't backed by any real evidence considering they fought hard in court to overturn a ruling that would require the PIF/Governors to submit to doc requests, etec. They clearly didn't want the PGAT digging around in the PIF, etc.

I haven't really read the articles or thought too much about it, but I am thinking the PGA Tour allows players (on their own dime) to try out for the 4 LIV spots. What do they have to lose? I assume some of those players could be on the outside of money list or getting older and want the guaranteed money. No harm in letting people try if they want. I think that is what most were saying all along.

Since June we haven't heard anything except this nothing event. We don't even know if they even sat down to start negotiating yet. PGA players must be done with Monyahsn.

This is tryout setup. No top players will sign up for this.

So this first started to break about 2 days ago. Nothing official yet either way. From anywhere between $425 million and $600 million for John Rahm to join the LIV. Two weeks ago he backed out of the Tiger/Rory tech Golf League. So maybe it is a sign. Not everyone is happy with Tiger/Rory becoming unelected representatives of the players. Too top heavy. Where does the everyday PGA Tour players have a say in anything?

He should hit that bid. I’m sure BK feels good about his next contract with LIV. LIV isn’t going after everyday PGA Tour players. You don’t run a business by allowing the tail to wag the dog.

The LIV can try and pick off the best players but a good part of their roster is has beens or nobody's. They desperately need a Room.
As for the PGA letting two guys make the decisions for all of them is wrong! PGA continues to be a joke.

Good move for Rahm. Take the money, play all majors, and get access to PGA events once the merger happens. Having his cake and eating it too. IIRC, Rahm was the player most screwed from the merger. He gave up hundreds of millions of dollars to "stay loyal" at the begging of PGA only to be stabbed in the back when they sold their soul to the Saudis.

And leaving him out of the Tiger and Rory leadership group.
