OT: So were the US swimmers robbed or not?

Along with not allowing the men's basketball team to compete any longer.

Outrage!

I hope Brazil asks Lochte to return to that country to answer questions about the false police report he made.
If he doesn't agree, a warrant for his arrest is put out.
Brazil and this country don't have an extradition treaty so Lochte won't have any worries
if he stays in this country. But if he wants to compete in another country, he'll have to check if they have an extradition treaty with Brazil and worry about competing there if that country has one.
Brazil doesn't have to ask , just have Lochte worry about it as punishment for his actions.

I understand Lochte has apologized and it has been accepted, so what I just suggested might not be the best way to handle the issue.

You think there is competition for Mbball? It's more like free money for those poor NBA players.

Of course there isn't. It was in reference to half the team getting caught in the brothel, then trying to pass it off as having thought it was a massage parlor. Pretty funny excuse, considering they have a team of masseuses on staff.

I was at RIO. Its my 4th olympics and I have learned to leave BEFORE the closing ceremonies as things get bad on "crazy Sunday and Monday"..so I came home today.

I swam in high school(SEC 5 NYS) and college with Ryan Lochtes father Steve Lochte. Ryan has ALWAYS been a problem in a number of ways and I am not at all surprised he enhanced the story. His official reason why he didnt make a complaint is he was "afraid he would get in trouble"........his mother and girlfriend were stood up while he partied.....missing curfew by 5 hours and damaging property turned into a lie and an embarassment on many levels. Then he ditched his buddies and flew home....nice move Ryan.

Brazil DOES have extradition IF its a felony but I expect this will all get downplayed. Once everyone apologizes(something Ryan has yet to do if you read his words) things will cool down. Ryan will be penalised in some way but 2 of the other 3 were interviewed as "witnesses" not purps...so only the guy who almost voluntarily paid 11k to get his passport and Lochte will be sanctioned IMO.

The bottom line is Ryan barely made the team.....he was the slowest split of the medal winning relay and he didnt place in his only solo event.....in the process he embarassed himself, the team, our country and the Olympics...all while hanging his buddies out to dry>>>>no one on the team is at all surprised>>>but he certainly will lose a BUNDLE in endorsements & I expect some endorsements he has already will drop him. Bad move all the way around Ryan....

Lochte always seemed to have a little Bluto Blutarsky in him. Funny thing is that he was actually a better swimmer than he gets credit for due to living in Michael Phelps shadow

Lochte is a straight up liar. In the interview on NBC tonight he couldn't/wouldn't see the distinction between his original lie of being held up at gun point vs. his negotiating with the security guard to get a lesser consequence (pay for his vandalism) than having to face legal scrutiny. He tried the strategy of a pre-emptive strike and hoping that white boy privilege would get him over, but thankfully it bit him in the ass. Hope he learns from this experience, but it probably cost him alot of dough.

I was onto Lochte when he was telling everyone that if "If you like your health care plan, you can keep it"

Extradition??? For pulling a poster frame off a wall and lying to an NBC reporter? Locate is guilty of being an idiot and vandalism. Let's not go overboard.

I also wouldn't be surprised if we see him with future endorsements for edgier products appealing to the X Games crowd looking for a bad boy image. Unfortunately it is how marketing rolls. Plenty of celebs with questionable behavior and morals pushing products. It could end up as no publicity is bad publicity.

mikefla might have brought up extradition because I posted this:

so if anyone went overboard I was the one.
As for endorsements, wouldn't be surprised if you're right.

Did he make a police report? I thought he may have cut and run after talking to NBC and the heat started to build. If the police questioned him he may still be there. He might have spoken to the police but if so I missed the reporting on that.

Facts aren't very nice. You are going to hurt the Lochte fan boys' feelings.

According to this he talked to the police:
Rio police indict Lochte, teammate for falsely reporting robbery | Fox News
>Police interviewed Lochte and Feigen, who said they had been intoxicated and could not remember what type and color of taxi they rode in or where the robbery happened, the police official said. The swimmers also could not say what time the events occurred.<
