OT: The Shine Is Off Coach Prime

No press is bad press
It's crazy that he created all this hoopla and his alter ego in his dorm room
And proceeded to back it up on the field
Now he has to back it up as a HC.
He started out looking like he was gold, but after a great start the rest of season make him look like fools gold

you see what is happening at fsu with the orange bowl? you watching
Yeah, but they'll end up playing
Boosters would lose their shit if they ended up pulling a no show

First day like 9 guys announced they were going in the portal, Peyton is the only one who's rescinded it

Wilson announced he's going pro so no way he's playing in the OB, although Dalvin did the same thing and played vs. Michigan in 16

Timing couldn't be any worse w/coaches away recruiting - things will start to normalize once they get back on campus and the kids get into a game routine

Lots of B1G rumors again, talk about ESPN getting their pound of flesh w/the snub and a reduced payout to get out of the league as a trade off

I just booked flight and hotel down there so they better be playing - what nobody is discussing is who from UGA will be opting out. I don't follow them closely so I have no idea what that situation is like, but going from 1 to 6 by losing to Bama by 3, ending a 29 game / 2 natty win streak is ridiculous

Agree with that, the flash only gets you so far before the substance has to kick in.

Long term - not this year, as he inherited a 1-11 mess
He's won everywhere he's been and has a drive to succeed and excel like few others I've ever seen
won 3 more games, when talking about winning don't forget a HC that didn't have the flash but took a 2022 1-11 program bowling this year with a 7-5 Northwestern team.
I think Deion might be getting a bit more credit than he deserves, but does deserve some for the 3 more wins this year , before his team folded and made Sanders look more like a loser than a winner.

He didn't even win the HBCU bowl with 5 star players.
27-7 in three years is pretty good
I'd give my left nut to have that kind of success here, and lose the Rose Bowl
As I said, he's been successful his entire life
I would not bet against him

Rutgers would go 34-0 playing Jackson States schedule. Completely different level. I'm saying even with far superior talent he couldn't even win what is considered the HBCU national championship. A sign of a good coach is doing more with less not less with more.

Of course it's a different level

The guy lost in the title game in year 3 of his tenure, having never coaching college fb previously

You think Saban's doing more with less? Urban? Harbarough? Kirby? Dabo?

Yes. With the exception of Kirby and maybe Dabo everyone one of those guys did more with less early in their careers.

Deion is hiring a DL coach who never coached DL and brought in an OL coach who has not coached an OL before.
The team that went 1-11 in 2022 was not the same group he got 4 wins out of. It would have been more impressive if he took a Ash like roster that was 9-39 and brought them 8 wins over the next 2 years...Let's see if Prime can find another 4 wins next year with an NFL first round QB again.

He's literally in year 4 of coaching college fb
First 3 years he's 27-7 and reached the finals
You guys can clown on him all you want, but I'm telling you, do not bet against this man. Do I think he'll make it to Saban's level? No, hardly anyone ever does that.
But do I think he'll be a very good and successful coach? Absoultey

Worth a mention that Jackson St won their conference titles 2 yrs in a row.
Jackson lost the 2022 bowl game in OT when Jackson player dropped a sure TD that landed in his hands in the end zone.

Deion could have been pissed but he knew the player (white) would be crushed so he made sure to console the kid. Kid caught a lot of anger from fans

DROP

DEION CONSOLES

By this time next year- you will most likely be hearing is name in NFL rumors...

At JS - he won because he was bringing P5 type talent in to play. There wasn't much coaching he was doing.
At Co - he wiped out most of the roster and just brought in mercenaries and as you can see- very little coaching anyone up again. At some point, he has to actually coach these teams

You can bring in all the talent in the world, you still have to put the pieces together
You know for a fact that was very little coaching anyone up at CU this year?

I personally don't think he schitct will fly in the NFL. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it. I think he'll remain a college guy, and ascend in his career.

Definitely a place they need help. Also they hired a new OL coach that was an analyst at OU. He was a player in the NFL as well but I’m not sure he’s been a coach before.

Another hire I just don't get. It's an interesting strategy, putting together a coaching staff for your interior lines with exactly zero coaching experience. If Schiano did this, I'd be up in arms going WTF, while @Knight Shift would be trying to calm me with, it's OK, let's let it play out. Well, let the Sanders defenders preach on how this is a brilliant move, because I just don't get it.

Sanders shown he can improve a program and was a good HC at a lower level.
He needs to do far better then the wa the Buffs eneded 2023 to be deemed the second comming or be mentioned in the same breath as the best.
If what he did in 2023 makes him great, them I know a HC that might deserve to be mentioned with the best the way he built a loser into a winning program his first run at RU and now brought RU to it's second bowl game in his 4 years back after taking over a program that looked beyond help.
Do I believe he should, of course not.
Nor do I believe Sanders has proven his coaching ability at this level because he hasn't proved he can win at the top level just because he had some success before flaming out
after some of his supporters here were making like he was HOF HC material

You asked a question I answered it. I’m not clowning on him but anyone who looks at many of his decisions objectively can see he’s over his head right now. He demoted his best coach in season. Now has added two guys who have never coached to his staff. He could have an easier schedule and actually do worse next year

I said when he got hired I thought how well he does will depend on how well Sean Lewis does. Well we know what happened there. I don't feel too optimistic about what their future holds because of the off the field stuff. I wonder about what kind of coaches he can attract too because of that as well. I don't care about Deion one way or the other but I was rooting for Colorado because I like to see underdog programs do well.

IDK … he landed the #1 OT in the country yesterday. A week before signing day. Has a big war chest ready for Portal season. Prime is making waves, not a bad thing for CF

Well- having a first round NFL QB didn't really do much for him...just saying. Good thing he has such a stellar coaching staff.

Prime is "winning" when it comes to promoting his own brand. This has brought energy, interest and money to Colorado Buffs. It still remains to be seen if he can translate this in a sustained way to the field and build a consistent year on year winner. For instance the OL generally needs not only talent, but also to work in sync. I would imagine that this comes down to coaching and familiarity/consistency. Changing out the OL annually with the portal and bringing in a guy who never coached the OL should lead even his biggest fans to question marks.

He had to this year has he flipped the roster over. This recruiting class is his first real class. We’ll see, give him a few classes. Everyone uses the portal to fill holes.

I don't think anyone else has filled 50 holes in their first year. GS 2.0 took a team that won what, 9 games in 3 years total and pretty sure he didn't just fill 50 holes?
Replacing that many players is on Deion, it wasn't forced on him.

Except he’s not going to try and do it through recruiting. He’s already said he only expects to take maybe 10 kids. He’s going to use the portal to assemble his teams.

right now the hype and possible NIL is bringing in the recruits, but it's the coaching that will make the Buffs winners .
Sanders got the credit for early wins, but by the end of season his coaching was questionable.
Success in the lower level implies a HC might be successful at the FBS level, but that isn't a gimme and Deion still has to prove he got what it takes to run a P-5 program.
Lat year he failed to do that despite a great start.
Talking a good game is only valid if you can walk it as well.
Sanders has the talk, but Colorado ended last year crawling
The jury should be out until Sanders makes his case as a good P-5 HC or is put in the fool's gold category because he couldn't back up the hype ( of his own making, with talk) and shows he's all talk because he's not good enough of a HC to bring home the wins.

I believe he can be successful if he's willing to bring in the type of assistants that can carry the load planing game strategy, leaving him to be a figurehead until he learns the right way to run a program ,while doing the type of PR that brings recruits and the money to get them .
If it's his way and nothing else look for next season to be disappointing to Sanders supporters and the Colorado fan-base because hype might get the talent, but even the best talent needs to be used right when making a team a winner .
Lat year shown Deion crashed and burned and made some of his assistants scapegoats to hide his own coaching shortcomings

I get that, he told them to go but I’m getting the impression here that this isn’t about his coaching. It kinda seems like it’s personal. I’m not looking to get into this. I think he’s good for college football. He has Colorado getting national attention. Recruiting is getting attention and once he starts winning on the field in the B12 the playoff’s are possible.

Deion is good for College Football with the attention he brings the sport.
Colorado couldn't find a better person to put them in the limelight and bring in much needed money for their footbalkl program and have all that follow College football follow the Buffs because of the attention Sanders was getting as their HC.
But as a HC Deion hasn't proved himself , even if some feel he has because Colorado did a little better this year under him than it did last year was under Karl Dorrell then under Mike Stanford after Dorrell was let go.

Deion brought the hype, now he has to live up to it, nothing personal .
I feel he has the makings of a good HC, but wonder if he's willing to listen to experience while he gaining some of his own
