On the Boomer and Carton show this morning, a caller claimed that any of the top 10 men's high school basketball teams could easily beat the UConn women's team. Carton disagreed, and said that UConn would mop the floor w/ them every time. Boomer seemed somewhere in between, but believed that UConn would probably win a majority of the games. I don't really have an opinion b/c I don't watch either, but thought it was an interesting question...

i think it depends on the height that the boys team would have. That would be a major issue for the UConn women to play against. If you are talking run of the mill boys team like a Hillsborough or Somerville yeah they would beat them but if any school has any D1 prospects on them that's when the Lady Huskies would run into difficulty

There are 3 schools in Union County alone that UConn would not beat. The Patrick School, Roselle Catholic and Linden. The boys players are too physically strong and would beat UConn.

Now if UConn had 5 Maya Moore's, that would be a different story.

Best of Luck,
Groz

The RU men's team would beat them by 50 pts. A 6'2" player is a power forward on a girls team. Men at that level are just so much more physical then girls. Watch the girls game, very little jumping.

Our Power Forward is currently 6'2" too. And have you noticed- our center doesn't jump either. it would be a great match-up!

Uconn would get creamed - the US women's national soccer team a few years ago couldn't beat the u-17 national team. As good as they are the speed and athleticism of the boys would outclass the girls.

UCONN is so much better than their conference foes that they actually started all of their reserves against Cincy to "see what it was like to be in a close game". Apparently, they have forgotten what it is like to be in a nailbiter.

I remember many years ago sitting in the Cook gym and watching a pick up game. My roommate, who was a marginal high school bench player at a small school, was matched against a point guard who is considered one of our all-time greats. He completely dominated her. Now I know that the women's game has come a long way over the years, but I still think that the high school boys are pretty far ahead. This is why our coach recruited guys to play against her team in practice until she was no longer permitted to do so.

I heard this on the radio that morning and it is ridiculous to even consider. The top 10 high school boys basketball teams almost inevitably have at least one player that could jump immediately to the NBA if allowed, and probably at least 3 Division 1 male players. Uconn women have a couple players that can play in the WNBA maybe. This wouldn't even be close physically. Carton was being a complete ass. He was saying that uconn would beat all of them by 50.

I don't understand why grown women use a women's ball. I'm 5'10, probably the avg height of a D1 and WNBA team. Men's ball. Girls probably don't need a women's ball in HS either.

Agree.

When they use a grown up ball maybe just maybe I'll stop using the term Lady Knights. Which I really like.

I realize the women's game has improved dramatically over the years, but I was in school for the women's national championship year in the 1980s and that team scrimmaged an RU fraternity "all star" team and got creamed. I think the men's game is still too big and fast.

Not the same but i went to Lafayette College and watched 5 random guys at the gym absolutely destroy the women's team. Tallest guy was proabably 6'3 and they were probably all decent high school players. I think any of the top high school teams would kill UConn

On a related topic -- Gino said his UConn team would get creamed in the Olympics vs most national teams.
