OT: UEFA Champions League 2022

Damn, Atletico Madrid played a really dirty game. Always liked Simeone but if he coaches his players to be like then I lost respect for him.

He does. He played that way. He prefers players who will play that way as well.

Savic was especially dirty in both legs of the tie. I mean... pulling Grealish's hair? Really?

I didn't see it the whole game, but certainly that last tackle in extra time could've been a straight red for Felipe instead of a 2nd yellow. Hate City, though, so was rooting for Atletico and they really should've scored at least one in those wild last 15 minutes with so many chances.

Liverpool played well until the last 20 minutes or so, but still more than enough to go through...

I know it's Europa League, but Eintracht Frankfurt just beat a hot Barca team to advance to the semis and looked pretty dominant for 80' doing it.

You think fans in Europe going for the underdog Villarreal vs Liverpool the same way most people were going for St Peters?

Villarreal and Liverpool have a brief history, but one of respect for each other. Plus, Villarreal fans sing the Liverpool natives Beatles' Yellow Submarine before every match. Also, I think ppl find it hard to completely dislike Liverpool unless you're an Everton or United fan.

...where they will fall to the massive West Ham United, who took down Seville (who own this competition) and Lyon to get to the semis. Still buzzing from yesterday. COYI!

Ugh I missed it - 2 goals in a minute??? will need to watch the highlights! Just put the game back on.

YNWA!!!

btw, loved this yesterday after the match:

Jack Grealish is the ULTIMATE bad luck charm. 💩 happens as soon as he comes in… Almost every time like clockwork.

OK, what are the other WORST COLLAPSES IN SPORTS HISTORY you have ever witnessed??? Can’t be worse than Man City’s epic collapse.

And now each and every Madrid player is passing out one by one and be unconscious to stall and delay the game as much as they can.

That and the most useless £100 Million player ever couldn’t put the game away like Big Money Players always do… TWICE!!!!!
Seriously? The defender made an incredible clearance off the line on the first one and Courtois made a scintillating toe tip save on the second one. Both were going in. Incredible finish, especially since I'm not a City fan.

I was avoiding this thread until I watched... WOW what a comeback and win!! They said it in the broadcast, but that's why subs are so tricky in soccer... you put in your defenders to protect a lead, but what happens if you lose it and your scorers are on the bench?

Part of me was hoping for a City v Liverpool final, would love to see them head to head in a winner take all, but Real Madrid/Liverpool will be interesting, especially in the spirit of UCL.

I do think that at this moment Liverpool is better than City. They're so explosive.

If City still wins the Premier League, is their season a success?

I would say yes as a City fan here in the states. But…

To some (probably most in England), winning their 6th PL Cup in the last 12 years is the equivalent of say the Giants winning the NFC Championship all of those years but never winning the super bowl. Those people are legit P***ed that Pep still hasn’t won a CL Cup and want him gone.

City is getting into PSG/BM territory where winning the league is almost an expectation, and nothing less than a CL title will please the fanbase.

Going for Liverpool since Real Madrid wouldn’t be there if not for the classic Man City last minute gargle Job. Should be a great match anyway.

Will root for Gareth Bale if he gets in which is highly unlikely. Otherwise I am a fan of Tottenham and the Premier League which will benefit from Liverpool winning. Reports that leagues with great success in the Champions League will get another team into the tournament which will give the Premier 5 teams.

I hate Pool so rooting for Real. They've been cockroaches all tournament so they could easily take this one. Benz has been unstoppable.

Like the way Liverpool plays and like Klopp a lot, so rooting for them, plus I usually root for EPL teams as that's the league I follow most closely...

Not a fan of Klopp, he is a great manager, but he is a media darling and camera whore, I don’t like that.

I’m with you on the EPL thing, it’s more interesting rooting for the teams and players I know.
with that being said, Liverpool is so explosive and fun to watch, they can make things go real bad for opponents real quick.
Plus they seem like a fun group of guys, even the stars.
