Small detail

Steve Politi-----RU beat writer

Graduate of UNC
So ????????
glad he decided to poop on another program, he poops ( with or without a reason) on RU all the time.
Are you upset he is pooping on the Hall now and might have good reason to ?

Does it start with a C and have eat in it ?
Politi isn't one of the best and brightest, so expect spelling mistakes from him
Especially when he's pointing out Willard's Rat infestation

It's 3 a.m. & I'm tired but where in that column does it say that Willard knew, or there is evidence that he knew, about the payments to Whitehead?

Did I miss it?

Yeah, we have been through all that, but let's stay on topic here. We all knew SHU's sudden infusion of talent was as corrupt as the day was long.
+1
The corruption at SHU started as abruptly and clearly as Bonds or Clemens starting on steroids.

He doesn’t say Willard knew. He says that everyone knew Tiny was a slime ball, and that he should have known something like this might happen if he got into bed with him to get Whitehead’s commitment.

As RU82 said, it's more that he knew what he was getting into hiring Morton - and that Lavin also knew, and wanted no part of him. He also tied Willard to the Pitino coaching tree to say that he wasn't naive to the ways these things are done, either.

Time will tell if there are any direct links to Willard, but the Whitehead/Morton situation on its own is bad for SHU. Clearly this list of players is the tip of the iceberg, especially with loads more information to come (see: Miller at ASU). If anything, the Whitehead/Morton connection to SHU and Willard might have given the FBI enough to get a warrant for wiretaps and further investigation into the program.

Morton was a SHU coach and on KW's staff.....and took money himself. What else needs to be said? But this story is evolving, so more will likely come out.

Hobbs was part of SHU athletic department back then. I'm sure Hobbs will be part of the investigation.

Pat Lyons was hired in 2011. Whitehead committed in 2013. Hobbs was the Dean of the Law School again by then and in early 2014 left to work with Chris Christie. Not saying he won't be looked into, but he wasn't part of the Athletic Department in any official capacity then.

Hobbs was well and clear of the athletic department by that point. He hired Willard in 2010, and was out as AD by 2011... when the Mortonwas hired and Whitehead committed, he was the dean of the Law school. He was off SHU's campus and working for Christie before Whitehead ever suited up. Don't think there will be any connection there, but who knows.

Willard went on to go 66-80 his first five seasons.... then voila, he got Whitehead and that big class, and has gone 63-26 since then. 2014 saw a dramatic shift for the fortunes of SHU's program.

That is right, first 5 seasons were mediocre. Then Whitehead shows up.

Yes, Willard probably would have been fired by now if he didn’t make a deal with Tiny moron .

Thank you for breaking that down for me. Like I said I read that at 3 a.m. and I was tired and I just couldn't put it all together LOL

Has politi ever weighed in on UNC academic fraud? I can’t imagine him not being on the right side of that one.

Once again, Politi in his quest to knock down another NJ team fails miserably.
Think it's more like Politi pointing out Hall's HC aligned himself with a cheat and the program probably will pay the price.
Don't expect sympathy from the NCAA.
If they have to go after the Blue Bloods, 2nd-3rd tier programs that were part of they payoff problem like the Pirates will be hit worse if they are punished because of Whitehead and or Tiny Morton ( supposedly loan) receiving money from an agent

I don't think he has. I think it's hypocritical of him to write columns like these and not do so, but that's another argument for another day. His points are fair in this one, and let's face it, even all us fans knew the Tiny thing was shady from the start. Politi would probably argue that it's his job to offer his opinion on the teams in this area, but that's a cop out. Sports columnists write about anything and everything and I do recall that he wrote a love letter column about Dean Smith when he passed away or was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, can't remember which.
