Pressure put back on Rutgers (‘It’s up to Rutgers’: Greg Schiano deal close but needs board approval

I agree Nuts but I was a believer that the silence was golden. So clearly "sources" thought it might need a swift kick in the rear to get things rolling again. Just wanted to be consistent and agree with you that nothing has changed.

It will happen and my uneducated guess says some form of clear indication by the end of the week.

Nothing has changed since Friday. Just clickbait articles guys.

Its news to me that there is no chance of Schiano getting cold feet. I wasn't sure if the University was waiting on him for something.

But what it is showing is that it is a good thing Hobbs fired Ash when he did because as is always the case with RU, this took forever and a day to get done. Glad we're almost at the finish line.

I would think that also until last week, when he met with Murphy, which relieved me of the “Greg May get cold feet” possibility BUT AGAIN I’m in a stress-free place about this now so maybe it’s just me lol!

I just am. To me it is clearly just a NJ Politics power game right now with everyone trying to save face. I think the deal is essentially done with everyone scrambling to make sure they come out looking good. Never once thought this was in doubt. Now if it does fall apart I will be the first here to apologize but everything I am "hearing" and reading says get ready.

F. This charade. Keep coach Camp. Schiano is a ****ing asshole. Unemployed for half of the last 6 years and making demands. F off.
Not only are you insane for being mad at the fact that Schiano is demanding the things he needs to build this program in the B1G, but the fact that you actually want to remove the interim tag from Nunzio with zero experience is just ridiculous.

Nuts - while I have your attention, I ended up booking my wife's party at Wonderbar in Asbury Park. Hoboken prices were much higher than Monmouth County. I guess that's not a surprise.

he may be a troll but unless you guys know exactly what is being asked, don't be so quick to dismiss skepticism. Greg is known for some pollyanna last few years

Do we have a list of people that should be receiving emails of support for hiring Greg?

All good brotha!! Hope it’s a smashing success!

Skepticism is fine. I for one am not in favor of a near term tear down of the Hale Center. However, if anyone has insight, I highly doubt it's the troll in this thread. He has spoken with zero nuance about the situation and has added nothing other than a basic "I hate GS" opinion to every thread. Fine to have an opinion, but everyone gets it at this point.

If the reporting is true that they are not now going to replace the Hale Center but instead just commit to build a bubble replacement that Hobbs has said was already in the plans anyway, and the other "demands" were related to assistant salaries and such, then these appear to be things Hobbs said he was going to offer the new coach at the outset of this hiring process.

I am in no way part of the "Schiano at all costs camp", but after what happened to him with the Tennessee job it is not surprising to me that he wants much firmer commitments to some of his demands than verbal promises from people in the athletic department.

Exactly the same thoughts here, as I've said many times, since months ago, when I assured people Greg was absolutely interested, before the season started. Sure, it's always possible some crazy thing happens to kill this - it's NJ and RU remember, lol - but I've heard nothing indicating that this won't get done. And if it does, I'll throw in a few apologies also.

Here's an excerpt from the article that's far more balanced than many others (I could have written this myself - in fact I have, several times, lol)

Rutgers went 68-67 under Schiano, but that record is deceiving. The Ramapo High product inherited arguably the nation’s worst program when he was hired. The Scarlet Knights had four straight losing seasons to begin his tenure but broke through to appear in the program’s second-ever bowl game in 2005, his fifth year.

Rutgers then had a breakthrough 2006, going 11-2 and finishing the year ranked No. 12 in the nation after an iconic home upset of Louisville during the regular season and the school’s first-ever postseason win in the Texas Bowl. Schiano took Rutgers to six bowl games in his final seven seasons, winning five of them, with a record of 56-33 during that span.

Agree with your point and would add Schiano is already intimately familiar with the Rutgers administration's lack of support for athletics, which is yet another reason to get things such as infrastructure commitments or assistant salary pool levels in writing (preferably in blood).

If the BOG votes Schiano down it will prove to us all that the Rutgers Administration never wanted us in the Big 10. If they vote no they should have a second vote to leave the Big 10 and ask the Patriot League for admission. The vote after that should be one to return all of our RFund donations because if they vote no this 35 yr season ticket holder is done. I'll never attend a Rutgers event again.

Posted this in the podcast thread with KS, SP, JK...big money and long term if his report is true.

KS says total package of 12M with 4-5M for GS himself and 7-8M for assistant pool and support staff and over 7-8 years rather than typical 5. That's a lot. If it's all privately funded and there's a manageable buyout should things turn south ok otherwise if true that's a big ask and I wouldn't want to be stuck longer than we have to be. I say this with other coaching contracts and I'd say it here too. Don't give up financial flexibility if things don't work out.

This. It's always boiled down to how much does Rutgers want this? Are you in, or are you out?

Good Schiano. Nail their balls to the wall and get what you need for this program to shine.

And if by chance he fails? I want to see what excuses will be tossed around. Way too much support for Schiano over Rutgers going on. Perhaps Schiano needs to settle for things in a timeline and stop playing Verucca Salt and saying BUT I WANT IT NOOOOW

If he fails, we can't blame the school for it.

But it all depends on what you are looking for him to do.

Just to put it in perspective, Ash's contract guaranteed ~$3.25 million in assistant coach salaries.

Also remember money goes a long way but so does the ability to convince those coaches to come in. If you give both Schiano and Ash the same amount to hire coaches, I would still pick Schiano for the fact he has made more connections and has more clout in the coaching community to make that money count. Ash could easily spend 2.5 mil on someone grossly under qualified. Point being its a good combination to have respect by your peers and money to spend.
