It's his history. It isn't just a couple of times. That's been his end game play for years.
His job is too make sure the right decision is made regardless of this one on one strategy. Especially with a TO in his pocket.

I think our team played hard in all three games in Vegas. Alabama was # 1 in the country in some preseason polls and we played them down to the wire and Texas A & M might be the best rebounding team in the country and again the game went right down to the wire. We have 9 of our 12 scholarship players being new to this team and most of you are ripping our coach and our players. It makes me angry to read all of the criticism against our coach and our players. They work hard every day but most of those posting are just negative nellies. Most I think are not even long suffering RU fans. This team is so much better since Pikiell became our coach. I guess you would like to go back to the Littlepage and Hill days. We are respected now around the country and we are getting respect. We need support not constant bashing. I went to Las Vegas and supported our team. Maybe some of those posting here should do the same. I am embarrassed to read such negativity.

Obviously Ace and Dylan aren't done developing.
But they don't need to do to get drafted.
In fact, they'll specifically get drsfted because they need more development but are already so good as such a young age.
Many CBB fans think you need to be fully developed before going to the NBA.
They fail to realize elite players want to be developed and great in the NBA and not in college.
That's why players declare for the NBA as soon as they can.

we were defending the 2-3 quite far out...thought we could've tried packing it in a bit to try and force them into shooters but it was clear they had figured it out.
it's also not super easy for a man team to just turn into zone. have to be 5 players really connected to make the zone work and that clearly isn't RU right now.
to me the martini foul when he sure as hell looked like he walled right back to dylan getting clobbered with no call was the game. even time a&m took it hard to the hoop they were at the line. wasn't the same for RU.
We got stops and stopped fouling. They didnt figure out the zone, we went up to a decent lead, and got lazy. As soon we left zone, the game went right back to how it was previously playing out

1) mismatch
2) foul trouble
3) slow the game down change the flow
4) protect your guys in foul trouble. 29 fouls dictated we could not handle them man-man
5) A&M was faster & stronger
The perfect zone would have been a 1-3-1. A&M had nothing on the perimenter. Your back guy would not have had to work hard they sucked. Everything was generated in the paint

There is only so many times you let the PG go right down the lane & either let hin score, foul him or weak side help late and get burned on backside
Our bigs will foul out every game if we run into offense like that and do nothing to slow the flow

I'm in my lane my man but thanks for the encouragement. Our defense is very undisciplined. We reach in all game instead of beating someone to a spot which could be 6" to 10ft whatever that spot may be.....but instead of moving our feet we choose to reach in which is one of 2 reasons....you are overmatched or lazy

Our defense is undisciplined on trying to block every shot rather than play solid fundamental D and very slow & undisciplined on the backside help
Now with Sommerville & Ogbole you'd expect that basically their frosh year and learning . We fouled them both out because they were abused down low because nobody could contain the guards up top (that falls on the guards)

If you are undisciplined or lazy, a zone will also be a disaster, and it was the other night. Zone's, especially slow zones, which ours is, can easily be penetrated.

to improve bench scoring you are gonna have to give bench guys more shots. that means less shots for ace and dylan. offense isn't the issue with this team. we are gonna score points. i continue to think the guys that defend and rebound the best will be the ones who see the most minutes with our two superstars.

Gotta make an offense work. A&M took away DH drive that he ate AL on and forced some bad shots & bad shot selections which paved way for AB to get more offensive minded
We did absolutely nothing to prevent guards driving the lane. Needed to get them in a perimeter based spread. They had bricklayers shooting 3's. The only reason I can figure we didnt flip to zone is it would have hurt our speed on offensive side.
When 1/2 your team has 2 fouls before 1/2 time you are limited in what you can do and how aggressive you can play D. Had to slow down the pace
