Rutgers Men's Lacrosse Has Second Straight Ranked Road Matchup At Loyola Saturday

Yale 6 - Penn St, 3 late in the 2nd
That Yale team is something. I sit on a board with a parent who has a kid there. She was telling me what is going on in that program. It’s nexxxxxxt level.

BTW- I like Dave Cottle doing commentary.

Anybody's game right now. And Russo has been good high in the 2nd half.

And here's where face offs will kill us. Don't see how we don't end up last in the B1G this year. Brecht should be canned after the season

Unbelievable to be completely unable to even compete for face offs at this level. Not sure I’ve ever seen a D1 team the poor at the x.

One of you lax guys want to explain that strategy on offense down 1 with 30 secs. on the clock, because I'm confused. We now have 5 secs and not one shot.

This team fights. Just can’t win games at this level with giving the other team that many possessions.

D is good, goalie played well, O turned it on. Just need it all at this level and we don’t have it.

The coaches were screaming for a timeout and just weren’t getting it

You can't win at this level with that kind of face off problems. It's too huge to ignore and ruins the season pretty much. Brecht can't be here this long and have a problem like this. Time for him to get pushed out

I'm tired of being the team that fights. We've been fighting for four freaking years. Put together a complete team. It's not that difficult. When you have players like Jules, AC, Gallagher, Mullins in your program for 4-5 years and constantly lose because of faceoffs, you're screwing up as a coach.

Agree. Brecht has had more than enough chances and has continued to fail. He never made the tourney even in a year where we got as high as #1 and we've been steadily declining since. This year may be his worst in a long time and needs to be the nail in his coffin. It's unacceptable

I’m telling you what I see. The alternative is a team that just rolls over. We have no faceoff game. That’s not changing this year. It’s outside of the box time in that phase.

Things aren’t getting easier that’s for sure.

Nice comeback but unfortunately a fall short and that’s really all that matters.

And we all agree on one thing? That this guy we brought in from Loyola, as our OC, needs to be canned? How has such a productive offense with such prolific scores completely change - for the worse - under his watch the last two years?

He’s not from Loyola. And when you do t get the ball, putting up 10 goals is pretty damn good. We would have blown them out if we had the ball like they did. Sucks. Our offensive production was almost 2x theirs. And they are known for innovative offense.

It all gets back to one thing guys. Faceoffs. That’s the whole issue.

The athletic department budget is high eight figures. His contract is a rounding error.

You clearly don't understand how the dept is run and who is running it. Pat just signed him to a new deal last year. Any talk of him going anywhere is crazy talk. Trust me. It ain't happening. Any talk of it is futile and detrimental. Zero chance.

Some good, some bad.

Good:
Russo was outstanding. Kept the game from getting out of hand in the first half until the offense woke up. He is becoming good at getting in the passing lane which is an extra dimension that not a lot of goalies bring that gives the offense one more thing to think about. Very good at minimizing rebounds and getting quick outlets.

Coaches and players shook off a really poor first half to fight back to make this a game. Some good adjustments on offense to get looks for our playmakers.

Defense was solid for the most part and showed big improvements in team defense.

Bad:
Faceoffs. Nothing more needs to be said.

Ground balls. Middies need to get better in a hurry at winning 50/50 GBs. With fogo being so poor best we can hope for is to tie it up at the x and get it to a gb battle. Doesn’t work if we let the other guy get every loose ball though.

some really costly and untimely turnovers. Turnovers are always killer but when you are getting destroyed on face offs and GBs you have to value every possessions and turnovers ultimately lead to the tying and winning goals.

Cali, you’re the lacrosse guy here. How is it possible that face offs have somehow gotten worse every year? Makes no sense to me. I think all of us here have played sports and watch sports. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a problem for any team in any sport

Some incredible stats for a 1 goal game. They had 2x shots. 2x groundballs and most telling. We lost the faceoff battle 2-23.

You flip those stats and we win by 10 goals. It’s a shame because our offense when playing free is so capable. They are getting completely nullified with the inability to even be close to competent in the faceoff game.

Hats off to the D today. And goalie. They played very well.
