Rutgers under NCAA investigation...

So questions:
1. Would any punishments solely impact football?
2. Did the university know about this was hitting the fan today before hiring Kill? Did he know about it?
3. Is the "worst" we could get the loss of a few schollies and a one year bowl ban?

He is from another site. Your counter is on a site by site basis.

So he should also be banned.

I wanted him gone in 2014.

In some ways what he did was worse than Shea.

We should just agree to a bowl ban next year as I'm not seeing it anyway. The drug violations are very wrong and troubling.

I never wanted him hired in the first place! Knew he was under qualified and would take us nowhere. Now here's the proof! I am a die hard, so I was hoping (during his tenure) to be proved wrong somehow, but my gut was right. Pitiful display Kyle!

At least the Star-Ledger will get plenty of clicks over the next couple of weeks. They were trotting out fluff pieces, opinion pieces, and "2016 In Review" articles that nobody gives a damn about. Now they've got their gravy train rolling again, and the sportsdesk is ready to ratf*ck us over this.

I think losing 5 ships for 2 years, no bowl in 2017, and vacating the wins is fair.
Dude that's serious recruiting infraction type penalties. No way. We'll get a fine, get put on probation for a year or two. That's even if the failed drug tests were against policy. No school has a one and your done policy when it comes to failed drug tests. For all we know it's 16 different players who failed those tests.

Sorry, but have to pile on here. Remember when you were talking about how Flood only recruited Rutgers Men and wouldn't stoop to the level of Slick Jimmy over in PA?

Not only was this guy possibly the most incompetent head coach in CFB, he was also a scum bag. The good news is that he will never get another opportunity to run a program into the ground.

Any chance we can hit some of our lessor sports with harder sanctions to avoid any sanctions for football or at least make them less impact fun. Just a thought as this seems like a department wide issue.

I predict that the SL and nj.com are going to try to make hay out of the drug tests without realizing that a drug test failure is not necessarily a problem.

The best part about Ash era is that we don't have these "national embarrassments" every two weeks, where I can't go and search Rutgers on twitter without every sarcastic shithead around the country giving their 2 cents

Preaching to the choir as far as I'm concerned. Direct your comments to those who refused to listen!

Not a big deal, like I said PSU has set the low bar for ethics.

UNC has set the low bar for academics. You should see no penalties or sanctions until UNC does for no show and no work classes.

However, this will hurt you in recruiting this year. That's not good. I'm sure other coaches are texting kids now saying you won't be eligible for a bowl. Unfortunately that's how this works. Probably should try to blame the Russians.

I didn't know Bush was Russian...

That doesn't mean much. Every schools has policies as to how many tests you can flunk prior to being suspended. If you think every other school out there doesn't have kids flunking drug tests, left-and-right, then I'm not sure what to tell you.

The problem with the drug tests is how Flood handled things.

Correct.

It is COLLEGE, drinking and smoking weed is very common place. What is wrong here is that Flood didn't report it.

I would not mind this so much if we had won like 40 games and went to some BCS bowls during this period. But to have cheated to this extent (if true) and have nothing to show for it sucks. At least Miami won when they were cheating. We cannot even do cheating right.

Seriously? This was a football issue first and foremost.

Id like to know did the university hire the law firm to do the review after flood was fired and then sent the NCAA the findings?

One source with knowledge of the process told NJ Advance Media the hope is since Rutgers made significant changes in personnel and operating procedures, the football program will avoid getting banned from future bowl opportunities and escape a significant loss of scholarships.

NJ Advance Media reported on Oct. 6, 2015, that a law firm that deals exclusively with potential NCAA rules violations was conducting a top-to-bottom review of the Rutgers football program following an array of off-field issues

All of this done under the old regime of Flood/Hermann should lesson any punishment the NCAA decides to impose. I'm not very worried.

Will we have to vacate our losses? Omg Flood was a train wreck, who hired him? Tim owns this! We have good leaders now.

Who are these remaining Floodies?? Out them!! The faceless enemy of Rutgersfan strikes again!!

In all seriousness, the "stupid" would be anyone who is surprised by this. The public reasons given for the termination of Kyle Flood were NCAA infractions. All of the alleged events except for one were public knowledge when they occurred (drug tests, hostesses, paper help/contacting professer). Of course there was going to be an NOA. I expect the school will respond and an ANOA will be issued lessening the severity of the charges. We took appropriate and far reaching action at the institutional level.

There is no way we will lose 5 scholarships. Remember, we are in the Big Ten now. So while we may be "small-time" in the eyes of the public, we are big time as far as conference is concerned. We will be dealt with lightly, probably in 2018.

Agreed.

In previous posts I have mentioned the decision by the AD and administration to go cheap in getting Schianos replacement. They are the ones responsible for this mess. I might add that this "going cheap" since we went big time, post Burns, has cost us way more ($$$ and reputation) than what the cost would have been to hire competent competitive football and basketball staffs. Big time sports is very complicated and competitive, you need competent well paid individuals running it. I don't know much about Coach Kill, but the fact that RU was willing to pay 600k+ for his services is a step in the right direction.

Cheap pays twice!

This old news. Remediation is already done. But we need to take our medicine for past failings.

Could what happened at the beginning of this be a reason other than NFL that Shiano jumped ship??
