Seton Hall vs Miami Sunday 10:30pm

I’m looking for how our young team reacts to its first road game.... hopefully they take on an ‘us vs the world’ attitude and scraps well....

Very entertaining game. SHU and Miami can rack up the points quickly. Let's see if the jet lag comes into play Wednesday night.

Both teams scored a lot. SHU is pretty good but SHU scored right under the basket all night long. Nzei was 8-8 with no shot farther than 3 feet from the basket. Guys drove all night long with no one stepping in front. It seemed like street ball all night long with very little emphasis on defense. Miami will be upset after losing and we will have our first road game with our freshmen. This will be a tough task for us.

Rutgers must drive on Izundu and draw fouls. He is their best rebounder and has fouled out of a couple of games this season.

Pressure Anthony Lawrence, #3 on a press and up to half court.

Miami is way better than the St. Johns and has better talent..I see a similar result...
Yes they do have more talent. St Johns should have been a 10 to 15 point win for us, but we played with fear, lack of confidence, and waiting for someone else to make a play. All very typical reactions for a young team. We are still trying to find our identity. We are NOT a three point shooting team, and will not win if we rely on that strategy. Found that out against St. John's, they believed the headlines, came out bombing, and missing. Then panicked.
Miami has more talent, but play street ball, no unity, no defense, and will crumble if you pressure them or take a decent lead. Basketball is about match ups, which is the reason we had little problem with Eastern Michigan, they were big underneath, but that was it. In that game we had better D, and smothered their guards, the complete opposite of what we did with St. Johns. At least that's my opinion/analysis. Go RU!

Hopefully the St John’s game was a lesson learned and as Pike’s been stressing a passion to play tough D every possession. My concern is the readiness of the newcomers. We really need them to step up and solidify the 2 guard and back up 5 spots.

" St Johns should have been a 10-15 point win for us "

Wow

" St Johns should have been a 10-15 point win for us "

Wow
That's right! And, the fact that you can't see that, tells me all I need to know about you and your Basketball IQ. BTW, I say this knowing you are a big St. John's advocate. They are a team comprised of guards, who play together well, athletic, with movement, shot selection, and overall pesky Defense. But, put them up against a team with similar qualities, a height/length advantage, and they lose. That's how I picture RU by the end of this year. So, you can Wow all you want, better players win if coached correctly every time! And, Pikell is a very good coach.

Jet lag is not a factor in a short flight to Florida in the same time zone.

Gio Baker is the only guard on our team who would even see the floor for them. You're lost, bro.

And, based on your vast experience, playing abilities, and overall basketball knowledge you say this, right? No, my guess is that you are as much a wannabee, as the rest on this board. Watch a few games, maybe someone picked in a school yard game, CYO league, where you once scored 20 points, and now you are an expert. And, before you go there, I on the other hand have played Div. I, have All Star credentials, Coached for over 20 years, and really don't care about your opinion. I stated in the very beginning that my analysis was based on opinion. You don't have to like mine, but I don't expect for you to take it personally. So, comments like "You're lost, bro." is not only childish, it's also inaccurate.
Gio would play on St. Johns, but so would many others on this RU team, maybe not now, but eventually. And, if you ask there Coach which team he would prefer to Coach, I would be very surprised if he picked St. John(behind closed doors). But, again MY OPINION.

I wholeheartedly agree about the “young team” issues, however, on what freaking planet should we have beat in St. John’s by 10 to 15 points?

I have never rooted for St Johns in a hoop game in my life.

Detest them actually .

Wow. Who knew Mike Rice was posting on your board. Certainly has his anger issues.

Miami is flying back from California.
I thought that he was talking about our flight to Florida. I didn't give much of a thought to Miami being jet lagged 2 days later. It probably won't be much of a factor either. Playing so many games in a short time span is likely to be more of a factor for them especially after the emotional letdown of the last second loss.

Yeaaa 18-22 year old kids aren't gonna be jet lagged a couple days later I wouldn't think but you never know. I'm more hoping they think they played a tough game against SHU and will coast against Rutgers to a win but that theory would have worked better if they pulled out the W

Taking the nonsense out of this post, I will say I respect that its your opinion. However the 2 statements in this paragraph do not support your opinion. First, "many others on this RU team (would play on ST Johns), maybe not now but eventually" is basically admitting that the Rutgers players you refer to would not be starting on this St Johns team. That certainly does not support the opinion of RU winning big over SJU.

The second statement is pure scarlet colored glass stuff. I would not trade Pikell for Mullins but to think Mullins would rather have the RU job is fantasy. Coaching at his Alma Mater where he is a legend in a league where he is one of the all time greats in NYC versus coaching at a school which has not even sniffed the NCAA's in a million years in a league that he is not as familiar is no choice for Mullins. No way he picks RU. You lose a lot of credibility on this one.
By the way, check out their roster. He is recruiting way beyond St Johns traditional NYC base.

Poser extraordiare!

If the discussion was limited to head coaches and, at least for now, excluded recruiting, Pike over Mullen any day of the week.

I thought the same exact thing but didn't want to get the "I played Division 1 basketball and had All-Star credentials" and now I am a total loser who hides behind a screen and plays fantasy while insulting others. Lol.

This is similar to when kids said my d*ck is bigger than yours and we're always proved wrong..........The more they boast, the more they roast!!!! Lol

Absurd. We should have been much more physical and played tougher D against St. John's, but 10-15 points better? No way, no how.

Best of Luck,
Groz

This little guard on miami is quick as hell.

Hes only 5’7. I know it is unconventional, but we should have Geo post up on him. He’ll have 8 inches on him

I saw him play numerous times in high school against my son's HS, St. John's College HS in DC. Nobody could guard him..

Not that I necessarily agree with the premise, but I don't think what you interpreted is what he meant by which team Mullin would prefer to coach. I'm pretty sure he meant the players, i.e. the roster. Not that he'd prefer to coach Rutgers rather than his alma mater, but rather that he'd take RU's players and have them put on SJU uniforms.
