State funding news link

If this was legit then it would cut the budget of Rowan, Norcross's folly, to zero. Also, get scored. Colleges complaining about the funding formula = Rowan, Kean, and Montclair getting too big for their britches, and thinking they deserve more funding because they went on a ridiculous expansion campaign that they couldn't afford. This is a threat, and we as Rutgers alumni have to destroy it.

How do you determine "performance" and how do you compare a research university with a college that basically only has the purpose of granting degrees to undergrads.

Montclair State, in particular, has leveraged the swelling wave of millennial students to go on a building spree. Unfortunately that wave is coming to shore and the numbers are much smaller in the future. They've bonded and borrowed based on a short term peak in enrollments. The question is is they leveraged it enough to make enough of a difference in their reputation and support the larger enrollment going forward. Personally I think they spent way too much on buildings and infrastrcuture and not enough on academic programming. The campus looks nice but, in large part, the degree and academics hasn't changed much.

Careful jonny,

Don't want to be "labled" an elitist. LOL

New Jersey faces a budget shortfall of about $807 million which has to be rectified by the end of June. Three credit agencies have recently down graded NJ's credit ratings.

Going forward do you think Rutgers appropriations will be reduced in light of these recent developments.

State Governments continue to reduce appropriations for their State Universities requiring students to increase student borrowing.

A recent WSJ article showed the increase of student dept increased by 361% from 2003 to 2013.

Accumulated student is now about $1.1 trillion and growing.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

It is hard to figure out how you close a $807 million shortfall without having every agency, including the university, giving something back. But maybe not. Of course, this would be all the worse had the legislature gone along with Christie's idea a couple of years ago of another state income tax cut that would primarily aid the rich.

Well Kansas is another state that cut Taxes and now faces a $700 million budget shortfall.

I wonder how much of an impact it will have on UK and KSU appropriations and tuition going forward.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
.

Well the Gov. decision to cut New Jersey's pension contributions to balance two years of budgets will increase the the system's
unfunded liabilities by more than $2.0 billion.

The pension deficit will top $40.0 billion by fiscal 2016 as the funded ratio drops to 50.8 percent.

Wonder what the impact of this decision will have on future appropriation increases/decreases to education in New Jersey.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
