Watching their spring game rerun and one of their coaches, Acosta, was explaining how the coaches bring their family to practices so the prospective recruits get to see how they will treat them as family also.

I remember a lot of Cuse fans taking shots at RU's family approach. Guess they'll have to readjust their views.

Hypothetical--
With Syracuse losing schollies , Boeheim retiring very soon and the football program falling off a cliff, if the ACC was deciding now who to take, would they still take Syracuse or would they choose UConn ?

the New Big East/ACC took Miami, Va. Tech, BC, Pitt, Cuse and Louisville.

I wonder if some ACC folks wonder how they missed out on WVU? The ACC pretending they are about academics to pass on WVU was a joke.

The completely blew it by not taking WVU. WVu has a bigger market than Sarah, along with much more success now in both football and basketball.

UConn right now would be a much more desirable choice. Real access to the NYC market, better hoops on both sides, and football is now even. With pseudo P5 partnership, UConn would be much more successful, and there are no academic hurdles to clear that having AAU membership for that conference.

Too late at this point though. That league has its work cut out for them now. It is s splintered mess with a number of different sized schools with vastly different missions. This bleeds over to athletics.

I don't agree re SU - it is an uninviting frozen tundra but the talk of its basketball demise is too premature and reminds me of the certainty on this board a few years ago that PSU was finished due to the disgusting Sandusky Morass. SU is well funded and its basketball tradition is well rooted (eg, Dave Bing) with or without Boeheim, though he certainly made them the household name they are. I believe they will resurrect as (i) their positive name recognition among to top northeastern AAU and school programs is strong and (ii) their program will be able to attract a top coach. Having said that, their football program has a much more daunting task in front of them.

As for whether the ACC thinks they should have picked WVU instead of SU- no way - even though 'ville and FSU are no Duke or UVA or even Clemson academically and WVU is a school with multiple strong athletic programs, the perception of WVU as a hayseed school would preclude its being invited in the ACC then and now.

Coaching is can be a crapshoot.

Plenty of programs with more history and support than Syracuse have gone through the abyss after losing a legendary coach. And whoever the new coach is will be limping in with the sanctions and the perception of that program.

I don't know if it will be demise, but it is naïve to think they will have some similar amount of success just because they are Syracuse.

That really isn't a destination job. Boehiem is an alum who spent his life there. He will be gone. Convincing the next guy who isn't to come there will be a challenge. Horrible city, even worse weather, and a Dome that is really showing its age. As for their assistant potential HC in waiting, his next game as HC will be his first. Those guys are never a sure thing, and failure rate is much higher than success rate.
