The shine is off Coach Schiano

Worked with him for a year as a student.
Way back in 2005 in his first stint here. Got to know him a bit.
‘Great guy’ is subjective. I’m sure plenty of people thought Sandusky was a great guy.

Am not suggesting GS is a depraved serial pedophile but it’s unconvincing to label anyone a great guy based on two decades ago.

In 2005 many people thought he was a great coach too.

Regardless, ain’t anything close to a great coach now and that’s all that matters.

Schiano isn't an awful HC, but he has his limitations and his fans who keep pushing the narrative that he is the only coach that could possibly have any success at Rutgers are, and have always been, completely delusional. He has been at it long enough for the fans to know the types of teams and seasons he will produce. He will deliver a minor bowl 2/3 years at his best, that is his upside, and that is proven by his record.

if the yardstick is hope for an occasional big season, yes he is awful.

He doesn't have "big seasons", even the endlessly celebrated 2006 season he followed up the big Louisville win with a dud at Cincinati. He delivers minor bowl level seasons at his best, period, that is the most a fan can expect from a Greg Schiano run program.

And still lost to WVU that year and finished tied for third in the conference

I've been following Rutgers for over 50 years and watching the coaching debacle since Anderson, 40 years ago. I'm too old now to expect much different in my remaining years. Be careful what you wish for. Rutgers will not attract a great coach and won't pay for one, so you can only hope for another school's assistant coach and a repeat of every coaching change over the past 40 years. Do you really want to go into another disappointing rebuilding period again?

yes since what we’re building now is a busted jenga pile of futureless trash. Rather hire someone with potential who gives us hope. Maybe it would work out, maybe not. But we already know that answer with DeadEnd Negative Two Point Zero
