Vic Schaefer leaves Mississippi State

DStaley's main competition. Curious to see how many players stay at MissSt. Vic is a top five coach in my opinion. Here come the Longhorns.

Maybe we have a re-enactment of the 82' national championship sometime in the near future.

A player who just finished her freshman year at MSU was heavily recruited by Rutgers. Wonder if there’s a chance.

By the way, this is a "hire of interest" to folks reflecting on Rutgers eventual coaching future, because it shows that there are factors, and there are factors. From all I've read, Vic was determined to return to the state of Texas where he had family and considered "home". Mississippi State apparently offered to match the deal, but he was not interested. While I knew he had coached in Texas (and particularly as an assistant at Texas A&M) had no idea this would be a big factor. Had it been A&M, that I wouldn't have been shocked. But this is just, well, shocking.

I would love her at Rutgers, but she might transfer with her coach to Texas. I hope the staff had reached out.

They said that when Gail G went there. In fact they say this about every sport at Texas

True, but he is likely to be successful. Coaching history in the state of Texas, so this should avoid the recruiting issues that were part of Gail's woes. And a very fine coach, though not young.

Also, a new arena is coming at Texas. Presumably this will include even newer behind the scenes facilities (at the least, locker rooms) that will help recruiting as well.
