- Rutgers played competitively with Big Ten powers well into third quarter despite lacking a consistent passing attack
- Rushing attack yielded 232 yards vs Ohio State and 208 yards vs Miami
- 14 sacks given up partially due to fewer passing attempts but still below expectations
- Talent level of WR Corp significantly improved
- Improved depth at QB position
- The schedule changed and Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan are not on the schedule
- Players should be more proficient in offensive system in year 2
And yet most of what you wrote in the OP is misinformation.
Name one national champion over the last 10 years that didn’t have an elite QB. Athan will improve the QB play over last year’s disaster but he’s far from elite.
Our OL is average at best. Kyle only led the B1G in rushing because KC ran the ball 7 of every 10 snaps. And the TEs had to block constantly even on passing downs.
Also, get it in your head, Korey Duff is never playing TE at RU. You keep spreading old information on him from recruiting sites from like his sophomore/junior year. He’s a WR plain & simple and has the 40 times to back it up.
Your whole write up of the defense is laughable. Our DTs have no depth once you are past Ray, Hamilton & Konga. The rest are still unproven and RU still struggles generating a pass rush. Something you completely glossed over.
You forgot to enlighten everyone that Powell tore his Achilles in winter workouts so he’s a big question mark now. He may be available to play but likely will be limited the first couple of weeks. How this impacts the D remains to be seen because the drop off is steep after Toure & Powell.
This is an 8 win team that will have a very good defense and an offense that is still evolving. RU is much more than a TE away to say the least.

Don’t cherry-pick the last ten years just because it fits your agenda. there are plenty of teams within the last 25 years with non elite qbs that have won a ship.

Our DTs are plenty deep with Ray, Hamilton, Konga, Angoy, Rainey. Angoy in particular had a very good game against Miami and was specifically called out.
We play Howard, Akron, and Virginia Tech the first three weeks of the season. We managed just fine without Powell when we played Miami. Powell will be back for Washington, which is when he will really be needed.
As for Duff, none of our tight ends bring the play making to the table that he does. Sure, he is listed as a WR, but we have that position covered. There is a huge need at Tight End, and Korey might be able to fill it. This is what Todd Hunt had to say:
But what makes Duff special is that, despite his size, he can go the distance, or make a chunk play, each time the receiver-slash-tight end catches the football.
This is a Team with the potential to win 10-12 games. We are at least a solid two deep across the board, and should be able to run the ball, stop the run, and throw downfield. Tight End is really the only question mark I see.

Good counterpoint to Al's post. As I've said, I'd be thrilled with 8-4. We are good but not 2006 good. And from top to bottom, the competition is at least as good if not better than 2006.
He was good enough to win a National Championship, but wasn’t good enough to be a consistent starter in the NFL. He was an athlete playing quarterback and thus cannot be considered an elite passer.

All you lose all credibility when you call Heisman winners, first team all Americans, Maxwell, Archie Griffin Award winners ect non elite. They may not have been 1st round NFL quarterbacks but to compare any one in Rutgers Qb room to any of them is a joke.
For his career Tebow completed 66.4% of his passes, threw for 9,285 yards, 88 tds and only 16 interceptions in 4 years. On what world is that not elite? His first national championship he threw for 3286 yards, 32 tds and only 5 ints.
To put that in perspective for Wimsatt to catch a "non elite passer" he would need to throw for 6,748 yards 74 tds while throwing 0 INTs this year.

How are we defining elite? Elite in my mind is a quarterback who made the NFL and started

I like enthusiasm but the first sentence of the OP tells you to not read further. The best OL in the country? We don't have a single 4 star OL on the roster, not even 5.7. I know kids develop differently and some that have stayed with the program have improved but I would think we are not even in the Top 25 of Olines.
In the past I would agree but we saw a lowly Rutgers 3* transfer to Ohio State become All Big Ten …was drafted and I believe has become pretty good. Hollin Pierce ( a ton of fun 4 seasons ago ) now has the potential to be drafted . Don ‘t kid yourself the difference between that 3 and 4* is not as great especially Oline . Ask Shaun O’Ohara… We are once again getting to the level needed and Flats is no joke.
Cherry pick? I said 10 years for ease of conversation...lol. Additionally, no one plays football like they did 25 years ago except maybe Greg. Now the real kicker, every one of those QBs you named is better than Athan and light years better than Gavin.
Also, there's no guarantee Powell is actually ready in late September. That's just the messaging we're getting now and we all know how Greg loves to play the shell game when he gives out information. Just like Sam Brown was ready to go to start last season. Then we find out his injury was still causing him issues week to week.
So stop your trolling about 10-12 wins. We have the right depth for 8 wins. However, the team is one injury away in several positions from playing guys with a huge drop off or guys that haven't seen snaps. In your bizarro world you call these types of players "depth"...lol. The talent level used to fall off a cliff when comparing first two second string. That is no longer the case, and if a first stringer is lost, we can replace with an experienced, talented 2nd stringer, unless the 2nd stringer is a redshirt freshman like John Stone or Dominic Rivera, who are 2nd string possibilities but redshirted last year. Sanders, Angoy, Mascoe, White, Chin, Asomoah and Sam Brown are certainly not practice squad and neither is Athan or Gavin, considering one of them is likely going to be 2nd string.
This year is a new year, and Athan, Gavin, and AJ are writing their stories. They will have an opportunity to do big things because every single game is winnable, and the WR talent is there. I’m comfortable with our two deep everywhere, save tight end.
The team has never been deeper or more talented.
Angoy had three tackles vs Miami. Troy Rainey played in all thirteen games last year, and has significant playing experience. Konga is transferring because he couldn’t break the two deep. Plus we now have Jasire Peterson who is ready to go. DT is least of my concerns.

It's not a coincidence that UW, UCLA and Michigan St (new hires) and USC have offensive background HCs...they won't run a 1950 offense and we won't be able to win 10-6 as is Schiano's m.o.
Another certain failure is Bielema...a defense first guy who flopped at UW and is an anchor at Illinois too. That will be the game we have the best odds of winning.
