I I WANT TO SEE IT. I AM CONFIDENT MOST OF WANT TO SEE IT. I
Football is entertainment. As a collection of individuals with various backgrounds, it is something we can all watch together and share in the experience. Last night I had friends over for dinner to watch the game. By halftime it was already difficult viewing. Having looked forward to this game for many months I was more than disappointed. I was upset.
I am already tired of the miniseries that is Rutgers football 2015. This season is going to get old fast if we are watching 5-10 yard passes and handoffs that end at the line of scrimmage. I am tired of police reports and news leaks about where/when our Coach contacted faculty. Right now the story is still hot and record numbers are getting onto this website for the latest news. If we are not more entertaining on the field, it is a real possibility the stadium will be half empty for night games against Michigan State/Ohio State on national television.
I am sure our starting quarterback is capable, but right now he is not getting it done. I know our line isn't stepping up right now, but they need something to hang their hat on right now. Before we back up the Brinks truck to get Coach Schiano back(Whether you like him or not, he is the only one that gets the New Brunswick culture and we apparently are the only ones who would thrive under his authoritative rule), give the kid from California a full game to write a new script for the season. I was there watching him against Norfolk State. He went through his reads and threw a pretty nice ball. He can scramble. Apparently he has a strong arm. Give the line new optimism to block. Create a playbook that includes roll outs, passes downfield and maybe even a screen pass or two. Lets beat Kansas and see what the young men that committed to our school and have worked hard to be on that sideline can do. Take a chance. We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Flood is idiot. Really nothing else to discuss when it comes to the QB "competition".

Laviano will be fine.....as long as the O-line can pass block a little better for him in the future.
Same with the running backs. Our O-line looked awful yesterday.

Exactly...anyone that does see that doesn't know much or has an agenda.

The line pass blocked fine in the first half.

Just don't see Flood allowing it - it is a matter of principle now - Flood would not want a change to occur while he out - if it worked - it would look like Flood was the obstacle to success.

We do not know what McDaniels would do - if he had the freedom to do what ever he saw as best

Maybe. Maybe not. I think we remember two seasons ago when the season got away from us. We may be on the brink of a similar season. I want to see what Rettig can do.

How about this thought. Possibly the only case scenario that keeps this coaching staff intact is Rettig's success.

In that case, I'll presume the coach's explored the possibility of Rettig starting and decided he does not give the team a better chance to win. I think they realize they need to win or be fired, so winning immediately I'm sure is their only motivation.

Flood's shouting from the bunker that Rettig can't play...

Won't ever happen - until Flood is gone.

That won't happen either since the school doesn't want to pay someone who is a better coach.

It's very simple. Embarrassing and humiliating as a fan, alum, supporter, but simple. And it just plain stinks, since the team is virtually unwatchable - so the season's a complete turn-off.

There's a simple response - withhold all support of any kind until Flood is gone.

Oh, yeah, and by the way - you think the recruiting class holds together until February under these circumstances? What does your common sense - not board parochial lunacy - tell you?

Good luck with that!

I understand. Right now the Coach apparently has not shown the best judgement-i.e-faculty contact. This is not about judgement. It is about what people want to see and what they can rationalize. It is illogical to not allow another player a chance. Especially one that has shown he is capable. Coach Flood has stated both quarterbacks could be interchanged in certain game situations. The perception that Coach Flood is also favoring someone that has broken the rules gets reinforced every series Rettig stays on the sidelines.

Paragraphs are your friends. If you want people to read things like this you have to make it less of a struggle.

0% chance Rettig will start.

If we're up by 40 at some point mid-way through the 4th quarter, there's a 10% chance we'll see Rettig on the field.

That reasoning goes against reason. It is exactly that potential stubborn line of reasoning that leads to disrespect for the Coach. I am hoping for more.

I'm a Rettig guy, but I think you have to stick with Laviano here. Have to show some signs of stability.

And no this is not, at this point, a Nova situation, Laviano is not imploding out there, sure he's made some bad decisions, he's missed some throws, but these games are not on Laviano, if anything hiss scrambling ability, which has been pretty impressive, kept yesterdays game from getting uglier then it could have been.

Looking at the schedule, and looking how this season is heading, Rettig will almost surely get his chance. A real oppurtunity where he gets a block of games, where he can show what he's made of. But to start the QB musical chairs at this point? I don't see that as being in our best interest.

Bigger roster decision imo is Hick's and Martin getting the workload and James falling back to #3 RB.

the judgment issue is deeper than just "faculty contact" - it was the conscious & willful ignoring of rules, policy, protocol ... he had situations where it was pointedly made clear to him that what he was contemplating doing was profoundly against policy - and yet, he was dismissive of the warning - and he forged ahead with his delusional scheme thinking that he, and he alone, could somehow 'fix the mess'.
The troubling crux of all of this is the willful way in which he progressed through all of the activities associated with this fiasco - he was obviously engaging in some extensive rationalization / self-justification in order to grant himself permission to go ahead and consciously side-step all of the rules .

I completely agree that Coach Flood will keep Laviano as our starter this week.

That said - The Washington State loss? Laviano committed two awful turnovers that cost us points/set WSU up for points. We lost by 3. How can you not say his play is at least partly responsible for that loss?

Re: the second point I bolded above: explain to the rest of us how you see that happening. If you don't put Rettig in at home against one of the two weakest teams remaining on our schedule to see what he can do, when would you do it?

I would like to see Rettig, but can understand the counterpoint. Laviano was extremely inaccurate, and without a doubt hurt our hances at winning the game. I have a feeling the coaching staff will look at the situation and see an offesnive line that didn't give him enough time, a big crowd with lots of noise for the first time in Laviano's career, and a game played in terrible conditions. I think you run Laviano out against Kansas. We are already staring at a 4 win season at this point. If Laviano comes out throwing balls high and behind the receiver, bring Rettig out in the 2nd half of that game.

RU-MBA-spot on. However, presently he is our Coach in-abstentia and from the bunker he leads. We may be marching to Waterloo, but there may be time to show rational thinking prevails. Plus, ABC/ESPN is not going to be happy with empty stadiums for Saturday night broadcasts. Last nights' performance was dreadful and change for changes sake is needed.

You have to give Laviano some credit for his scrambling ability. I thought he moved really well, and threw the ball well after scrambling. With Rettig who knows how it plays out.

And look Im not saying you should stick with a QB in a game where he throws 5 picks, or if there is sustained stretch of poor play, but there is a lot to be said for stability at the QB position.

Yes, it is exactly those type of cognitive biases by Flood which will mean Rettig will ride the bunch all the way to 1-3 win season. If Rettig gets playing time he will only be allowed to hand-off.

Flood is stubborn and yes like most blind to his biases. However a leader who is paid 1 million bucks a year is getting paid to take steps to overcome his cognitive errors. You overcome your errors by listening, by taking in other views etc. Flood has shown in the Barnwell fiasco that he is capable of neither. Those expecting sound decision making from Flood will be waiting a long-time.

Here is a good essay about cognitive biases: http://www.businessinsider.com.au/cognitive-biases-that-affect-decisions-2015-8 Most of us can't overcome our biases because we don't know we have any and we only listen to people who confirm our thinking. Flood's conversation with the academic advisor is very telling. He simply didn't engage her at all or consider her warning.

While it would have been worth a shot last night, Rettig might have done worse without Laviano'a pocket moxy.

Then again if HR had hit a couple long passes maybe PSU can't bullrush with such abandon.

I wish we'd see Rettig get a real chance.. but we're playing Kansas..a perfect opportunity to work on Laviano's "confidence". And while I don't think Laviano is anywhere near as inconsistent as Nova, I do think this is an opportunity to see him get the Nova treatment on homecoming.. he can do no wrong.. and that brings a whole new angle to the "confidence" game.

Laviano needed to take a break there at some point.. he was feeling the pressure and he reacted poorly at times (but still better than Nova did). Everyone could have used a break with Rettig. The whole team, the fans and every coach not named Flood. Damn shame Flood has decided that his "persona" requires committing to one QB and one QB only.

I don't understand this logic. Did Urban Meyer care about Cardale Jones' confidence today after benching him? That guy won a National Title.

23 points in 8 quarters against WSU and PSU.. 1TD 3 INT's 1 fumble

I have nothing against Laviano, I just want to see my QB to have some tangible skills besides heart

Kyle Flood has such a poor judgement that he should not be put into any decision-making role at all. He demonstrated this by his poor choice for his starting quarteback and his disregard of known university policy that prohibits him contacting professors of his futtball players He is also so stubborn that he would even stand out among most teenagers in this department. The report on his efforts to change the grade for his corner back Nadir Barnwell provides proof of his character. He is not meeting the minimal standards Rutgers should demand from a head coach.

Nothing against Laviano. Seems like he is trying his best but if the remnants of this coaching staff don't name a new qb to start by Tues I have two good seats for Sat's game to sell. Agree with giving bulk of carries to Hicks then Martin, then possibly James.

Btw, we took no deep throws last night and part of it has to do with Laviano not having the arm strength. Also get rid of Rossi already. Defense out of position and a statue of a qb having all day to throw is on coaching. RU acts small time when facing adversity. Coaching staff and administration alike.

GO RU

Rettig won't play barring injury. Barring an injury and not playing, Rettig will transfer. That's how this will likely play out.

They wouldn't let Rettig even take one snap when Laviano's helmet came off. They preferred to waste a timeout!

This is clearly not a staff that's going to turn the reins over any time soon...ie never.
