After the contract is signed will Ash come to NJ and begin assembling his staff and recruiting or will he remain at OSU until the Bowl Game is over. I think he is a co-DC (?) so he would not leave them without a DC.

I know some coaches depart immediately for their respective new school and some stay until after the Bowl Game.

Thoughts.

Sometimes coordinators turn out to be good HC.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Gotta be ASAP. OSU has a co-DC, he's a bum, but Fickell will need to handle it.

ASH must get the staff and start recruiting.....MY Prediction, He creates the vision and displays a passion for defense that delivers Gary and Fuller.....also retains Barthel.

I'd be surprised if he did. This isn't a national champ run, it's a big bowl that's all. I doubt it.

If OSU somehow, miraculously makes the 4 Team Playoff, I think Ash stays through the Playoff run. Same as Herman last year. If we end up in the Rose Bowl like most are predicting...Ash will almost certainly be packing for P-Way Monday night...

Head coaches should stay with their teams in bowl games even if they are moving on. They owe it to the kids.

Position coaches who get bumped up, no.

Ohio state could end up in the playoff . I would expect him to coach a national semifinal .

He is gonna be here final 4 or not, that's what winners do.

I think he comes here immediately playoff or not. They have a DC with Fickle already there. If I'm him my livelihood now is situated at RU once I signed on the dotted line. I say goodbye to Ohio St. your now the enemy and start my new job calling committed players and reassuring them that RU is the place to be. I start assembling my staff and seeing who else I can get to commit that fits my style. There is no time to waste on staying with a team you have to play in 10 months.

I get what you're saying...but there's also a bunch of kids at OSU that have busted their ass for him. If they make the playoff (which they won't), those kids deserve to have their Commander-In-Chief there with them. It's their play that has put him in this position to further his career. If they play in the Rose Bowl then I can see Ash saying goodbye and passing the game plan off to Fickell. But ditching your troops for the playoffs? C'mon man...

So by that time his first recruiting class will be falling apart and he'll have what less than a month to try and repair it. He'll also have to assemble a staff so kiss all those offensive recruits good bye. Yea that's a great way to start off your head coaching career. I guess you would put your future livelihood at stake to satisfy kids at another school. That you'll be competing against in 10 months, but I sure as hell wouldn't. In case you didn't notice we went 4-8 last year it's quite a reclamation project he's taken on here. I think he might want to get started on that as soon as possible. But hey lets not ditch your troops rather let's start our new job behind the eight ball that's some really profound thinking there. I think he goes with whose going to feed his family for the next five years. You want charity go to UNICEF

I'd say odds are very high ohio state will not be in the top 4 so odds are high he'll be here asap. We need him to salvage something of a recruiting class.

It's a moot point anyway because OSU isn't going to be in the playoffs. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers. But let me ask this question...

Rutgers is getting ready to play in the 4 team Playoffs and a chance for an NC. OSU just hired Chris Ash, your DC and want him to start immediately. Would you still feel the same way? Didn't think so.

From the OSU Rivals site article,

"Published reports are saying that university's Board of Governors will meet on Monday to finalize any sort of deal before Ash will be officially announced as the new head coach.

It is unknown if Ash will immediately assume the duties at Rutgers or will remain with the Buckeyes for a bowl run or the outside shot of a playoff run,
much like Tom Herman did last season. We will update this story as more details become available."

I don't think I'm ever going to be in this scenario in my lifetime so yea he can go why the hell not. P.S. didn't mean to come off like a d*ck it's just been a real tough season this year with the constant poundings. I want my new coach working here asap to try and right the past mistakes of a pop warner coaching staff. Sorry

It's all good bro. I get it. I wish Coach Ash and RU the best!

How do my feelings as a fan enter into a coach's contract negotiations?

Maybe he just goes back for game week prep and the game? Didn't someone do that last year?

I hope he is not pulling double duty particularly now that OSU is not going to be in the final four. We need him full time starting whenever that contract gets signed.
