Will GS be on the Hot Seat a year from now?

If RU has another non-winning season (5 wins or less), will GS be on the hotseat at the end of 2023?

Five years from now, if Greggie wants, the job
is his as long the his money backing is still there. This last time around they announced
he was no longer in the run, the money boys
took over and we got stuck with him again, there wasn't
a school in this country that wanted him, and
when Tennesee wanted him. their minds were changed mighty fast.
If there is progress
he stays. With lack of progress
Greg will be leaving

I mean what Al is saying is correct in one sense. Schiano failed with the offense the last three years, that’s not up for debate. But firing him out of spite is not the answer; if he turns it around and starts showing progress then fine.

The part I take issue with is the hand wringing about the schedule (it’s tough boo hoo) and this odd insistence that Rutgers is somehow handicapped in ways completely unheard of at other power 5 programs. This is bullshit
and ‘NIL woe is us’ is bullshit too.

It’s not firing him out of spite, it’s firing him based on performance. The performance of the offense particularly last year. People can say he’s the lowest paid big ten coach all they want, he’s still making $32 million to be here, he’s paid that amount because the football team is one of the best ambassadors of national recognition of our program, when that national ambassador becomes incompetent, questions start to arise. The offense was incompetent last year, he needs to show vast improvement in that area next year, otherwise what what are we paying for?

You are correct that it’s ridiculous for any program to just accept 3-5 losses each year

My point is it's not realistic or sensible to fire him now, so he's going to get at least 1 year, probably 2, to correct these mistakes. At the end of those next two years if there has been significant progress from where we are today, it would not make sense to fire him because of missteps in the first 3 years, imo.

At some point you’ve got to cut your losses though. True, this year is his mulligan but another anemic year in 2023 should be his last. And it’s on Hobbs to find the money to pay the balance of the contract bc those meritless years are completely his massive f**k up.

Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, Maryland aren't going away, probably 2 of them every year and 3 out of 4 every other year, and we are rotating Lincoln Riley and Chip Kelly every other season to the schedule. I don't see the path to success here even with a competent OC, didn't Ver Steeg take over for Bill Cubit after year 2?

I think you probably give him year 5, or at least the beginning of year 5, unless next year is a step back from this year.

For the most part I believe that coaches who have at least demonstrated some improvement from their starting point (and we have improved since the end of the Ash era, however laughably low of a bar that is) should be given a full recruiting cycle to work.

By the end of year 5 though you really do need to be at least, at LEAST, an average FBS team. That would still be bad by power conference standards.. if he can't do that with a full recruiting cycle I would agree that it is time to cut losses and move on.
