2 stats for 2014 Washington State football - their QB took one snap out of 1011 from under center, and their defensive backs had one interception for the whole season. Also, from this profile of Wazzu for 2015, it points out that the new DC is establishing a nickel-heavy defense to counter the Pac-12's aggressive spread offenses.

Just to be clear, their defense had only one interception last year, which is not very good. I first thought that you meant that their QB only threw one interception, which would have been very good.

Their new QB is expected to take around 25% of the snaps from under center.

Not that it means a whole lot but UNC tried that spread em out no linebackers jazz and we beat them up badly with the run.

Of course the concern is replacing a lot of the OL and Burton. Remains to be seen if we can be physical enough to counter a scheme like this. I think so, especially with James back.

The spread offense in the Pac 12 and Big 12 has killed player develpment on both sides of the ball. Too many receivers don't learn how to run routes. OLs don't learn how to pass protect. D-lines don't know how to stop the run. And qbs can't read coverages. those two conferences have become a joke. UNC plays that style too, which is why we flat out bullied them for four quarters. Hopefully our OL has a grasp on things for that game. It would be nice if we could run a lot in that game.

I believe WSU also loses 5 of their back 7 on defense. We shouldn't have any difficulties moving the ball. This game will depend on how well we prevent *them* from moving the ball.

This sounds like a run offense all day! We should be 2-0 after that. Good start. Then the real season will begin.

They had three INTs not one (still bad) and Nova accounted for one of them

Thanks WhiteBus ... I re-read the article. You are correct (and I went back and corrected the original post). WSU's defensive backs had but 1 interception last year. Here are the NCAA team interception stats. It wasn't very pretty for Rutgers either -- WSU had 3 interceptions (tied for #121 of 125), Rutgers had but 7 (tied for #105 of 125).

Sounds like they are playing flag football in the Pac 12. Sounds good to me, as said in this thread, we will run it down the throats of that D!

Running the ball sounds great.. as does working the clock against what might be another potent offense. The danger would be if they get a lead. We might not be able to run the ball AND play catch-up.
