Will BYU football be more like Utah or Rutgers when it jumps to the Power Five level? I'll start:
- BYU will be more like Rutgers than Utah because we each have a questionable claim to a single national title (RU 1869, BYU 1984), whereas Utah has none.
- Utah will be more like BYU as neither university has anywhere near the tradition of Rutgers. Rutgers introduced intercollegiate football (1869) nearly 30 years before Utah was even admitted as a state (1896) and had been playing on the gridiron for decades before either Utah (1892) or BYU (1922) ever fielded teams.
