Renegotiating NIL Deal

From Football Scoop

Tennessee: Nico Iamaleava was the first recruit to sign a mega NIL deal as a recruit, and now he's the first to publicly threaten to hit the portal if his school doesn't give him a raise.

On3 reported Thursday that Tennessee and Nico Iamaleava are in "active negotiations" to the quarterback a new contract ahead of the spring transfer portal window opening next Wednesday, April 16. The article includes plenty of soft language -- it opens by saying it's a move "many around the program expected" and that Iamaleava "is happy at Tennessee and has a strong relationship with coach Josh Heupel." The implication is so clear that it doesn't need to be said, but On3 notes that "it remains unclear if those negotiations will impact" Iamaleava's decision to enter the portal next week.
A 5-star recruit out of Long Beach, Iamaleava was the first recruit believed to have signed a mega-NIL deal before enrolling in school. In March 2022, The Athletic reported a recruit, later revealed to be Iamaleava, signed an $8 million NIL deal that paid him $350,000 "almost immediately," and in then in monthly installments totaling in the neighborhood of $2 million a year for his first three years on campus. Iamaleava is now entering the final year of that contract, but the market for top-level college quarterbacks has now surpassed that deal. Carson Beck (Georgia to Miami) and Darian Mensah (Tulane to Duke) both got $3 million to transfer, and Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, got the same amount to sign with Michigan, On3 reports.

OT: Official 2025 PGA Tour thread

The season has started. Last year's winners on the PGA are playing the real Tournament of Champions. The first two tournaments are played in beautiful Hawaii but on high scoring courses. It's fun to watch especially to start the new year off but let's not confuse these with a major course.

Same request as last year. Let's keep this thread about the PGA Tour and the 4 Majors.
If you want to talk about the LIV issues start a new thread please.

Former Rutgers golfer is in the field. He will be playing his first year of his 2 years exemption, thanks to his win last year!

I’m usually more pessimistic in here, some call me negative but I just match my posts to the direction of the MBB program. I’m Going to flip the script today. I think DG could lead the team in scoring. We know he’s not afraid to mix it up. Was a fairly highly rated recruit. He’s long and will be another year stronger. He can rebound which will create second chance points. Some for himself. And he’s not afraid to shoot the three. But shooting is a learned skill and look at JMikes % jump from frosh to soph. Plus the kid is hungry. Don’t sell Dortch short either.

Meet the Rutgers baseball commit coaches are saying is a nightmare to face

Whether he’s in center field or at shortstop, where he’s spent the majority of his playing time, or barreling up pitches to all fields, Wiltsey has firmly established himself as one of the region’s elite baseball players and among the state’s finest.

Financial Realities - I Know, Been Posted Before - Link

So ... I came across this article - just ... let's say a dose of reality.

See this link: https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/20...10-million-roster-next-season-per-report.html

The key source I think has been reported on here on this site: CBS Sportswriter Matt Norlander's article of this past Thursday.

Nutshell:

1) 10 basketball programs will spend $10 million on their basketball rosters for this season (I guess revenue sharing and NIL combined): Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Arkansas, St. John’s, BYU, Louisville, Michigan, Texas Tech, Michigan and Indiana.

2) 8 basketball programs will have an $8 million budget: Auburn, Connecticut, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Miami, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, USC, Villanova, and Virginia (Virginia?!!!).

3) By the lists above, 5 Big 10 teams will have a budget of $8 million or more.

4) Norlander's article proclaims near the end, without NIL (separate from revenue sharing, on top of revenue sharing) of at leasst $3 - $4 million, a high major program is in trouble. RU? maybe $1 million (not including the Vegas tourney, which is split evenly amongst all players, so not really a "recruiting" - i.e. "paying" resource).

Ouch.
