17-18 Post Season Conf Tourney Attendance: Big East #1

also #1 for shortest average distance from average attending fan's house to tourney site. That helps the numbers.
The Big Ten did have a higher total attendance but it’s good for the Big East. Most of those schools play in smaller arenas than Big Ten schools so attendance at the Big East tournament does nothing for their bottom line.

I'm happy that the BE had great attendance at their tournament. Basketball, after all, is their marquee sport. The BE tournament is an established NYC tradition, and many BE alumni have been getting together to attend the tournament for years.

I think the question about future funding is the key concern. Football drives the bus, and the athletic revenue disparity between conferences like the BE and the B10 could become an issue. The Catholic schools will still bring in good recruits, due to tradition, and the cost of running a basketball program is far less than supporting a big time football program. Elite programs, like Nova, will have strong alumni donor support as long as they continue winning. In the end, everyone will probably be OK, but the B10 is clearly the nation's most prestigious academic/athletic conference, and future revenue projections support that.
