Really cool seeing Kyle Snyder coaching the women's freestyle match. He probably knows a thing or two...

Devin Winston going to Minnesota with a little showboating...
Will fit in well there

had legs in and put both of HIS hands behind his head.
Also did a little shuffling in neutral

Kanniard has an interesting matchup Sunday at a charity tournament vs Kyler Mosher (Columbia)

"FEATURED MATCH: The 160-pound bout between Kanniard and New York's Kyler Mosher will feature two wrestlers in the top 10 of the national rankings. Kanniard, a Rutgers commit, beat DePaul's Connor O'Neill to win his first state title two weeks ago and finish his career with a Shore Conference-record 165 wins. Mosher is from South Side High School on Long Island."

Mosher is ranked #7 at 160 and Kanniard is ranked #10 on Flo

For those with Flo, this is the video of the Aragona-Ealy match. Jojo in control pretty much the whole time in his 5-1 win:

Here is a great interview with Jojo after the match, also behind the Flo pay wall:
https://www.flowrestling.org/events...tling-classic/videos?playing=6396933&limit=27

Basically, he says PA people did not respect him because he wrestled in NJ and he chose Rutgers because he loved the "down to earth" coaches who would do anything for him, he knew almost the whole team, it was close for his family to watch and it is the Big 10 wrestling.

Thanks for posting that. Let's hope that AJ Ferrari, Shane Van Ness and other top NJ kids feel the same.

PS-

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1530960/ This wrestling documentary from 2009 is like a movie about 2 HS programs in Ohio, a power and a small local. If you haven't seen it before , it is terrific. It is free on youtube.

Is NJ a single class state, like CA?

Not sure I fully understand your question. If you are asking if there is only 1 individual champion per weight class, then the answer is yes.
Almost all Public and Parochial High Schools in NJ belong to the NJSIAA.
For the Individual Championships in Atlantic City, they all wrestle down to 1 champ, no matter the size of the school or whether it's public or parochial/private

For the Team Championships, they are separated by School size, 5 Groups in Public, 2 in Parochial.

There are a few NJ HS that do not belong to the NJSIAA, notably Blair Academy. They wrestle other Prep schools. They do not participate in the NJSIAA championships.

Thanks. For some reason, I seemed to remember that by seeing the video about Damian Hahn. Makes his feat and Mark Manchio's, who wrestled at UNI for three years, all the more impressive.

Yes, I meant one overall class; one champion. We have three in Iowa, as do most.

NJ 1 class , Pennsylv. has 2. Both states have much bigger populations than Iowa, so I'm a little surprised you have 3 classes for a relatively small state population wise.

As far as your age for High School, it is only grades 9-12 and the kid has to be enrolled in a HS or get a waiver for being home schooled (rare). No 8th graders participate in the NJSIAA.
PS- some kids stay back a year and start late, which is permitted, but there is a cut off date age wise, for them to participate in a senior year sport.

I promise, my final annoying NJ wrestling question: how young (grade level) can one be to wrestle in high school?
9th grade. With all the forfeits these days, they really should open it up to 7th and 8th graders, like NY, FL and other states.

The problem that we would have though is that the difference in population sizes between our metro area schools and rural schools is enormous, which translates into resource differences, financial, facilities, coaches, and otherwise. I think it'd be rare that a top class 1A wrestler in Iowa could consistently beat a top class 3A wrestler in Iowa, just due to those differences.

I understand, that makes sense. Here in NJ we see the parochial programs that invest more in resources to their programs eg Bergen Catholic, Pope John, have more success with more individual winners. But we still see a fair share of smaller public school kids break through and win. Not all of our publics are equal, some have long time traditions in wrestling with good feeder programs (eg S.Plainfield, Paulsboro, Pburg etc) , they can compete for individual titles. But they all have a shot. We have a terrific tournament in Atlantic City that draws approx. 40,000 over 3 days and 5 or 6 sessions.

And the rich get richer:

Kent State's Kyle Conel, an NCAA third-place finisher in 2018, announced on Twitter that he will be attending Penn State to pursue a master's degree and complete his final year of eligibility if he is granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA.

Hope we can get a high ranked Grad Transfer as well. We have done ok with regular transfers though- Suriano, Colucci, and Pagano. Somewhen mentioned that Pagano will be petitioning for a 6th year. We could use him.

Wish we could have held on to Ryan Anderson. IMO, he will be a multi year AA.
I love Anderson! Teaching kids u don’t need to cut much weight, rocks a dad bod, and drinks Mountain Dew before he wrestles a match! Breaking all sorts of stereotypes but he’s the #1 kid at his weight so we can’t argue it
