I didn't see it mentioned yet on this forum...Kevin Mulligan is transferring to Divison II, San Fransisco State. He will have 2 years of eligibility remaining- I think. Best of luck to Kevin and hoping he will be concussion and injury free.

Well said and a considerate send off to one of our Scatlet Knights...

Hope he doesn't give the same effort he gave here.

.....and a very inconsiderate one. "Wow" is the only thing I will say to that without getting into it.

Well said and a considerate send off to one of our Scatlet Knights...so how am I inconsiderate? For telling the truth? Let me get this straight the coaches courted this kid, gave him a scholarship, passed on others who probably would relished in a scholarship and fought their butt off on the mat.For what? A kid who wasted the coaches, and everyone elses time partying? Dont give me this bullshit either that he was " just a college kid". He knew the grind for years, and if his heart wasn't in it he should have not wasted everyones time and money.

At next weekend's 2019 UWW Cadet and U23 Nationals, I notice RU commits Connor O'neil registered for :80Kg (approx. 176 pounds)

And John Poznanski registered for 92 Kg (approx. 203 pounds)

Both in the Cadet division. I also notice Princeton's Matt Kolodznik registered as well in the U23, a few other Princeton and Rider guys as well. I did not notice any other RU current wrestlers registered yet. I think they can sign up til the morning of the event.

I see Poz at Yale Street from time to time... he's looking big. You can also tell the kid is driven.

Crackers, I don't know much of his story and frankly don't care. He is a Scarlet Knight and so am I. He is moving on and I wish him the best. There is no need to take cheap, pot shots at one of our own.

My friend I am also a former Scarlet Knight and former Rutgers Wrestler. If anything, I would be the first person to support any athlete who is struggling. But not an athlete that took advantage of the coach's trust in him with a scholarship and carried on with partying. I don't want to hear any excuses that they're young college kids. They have been doing this grind almost all their life and they know the drill. So now he decides he wants to wrestle again? After wasting two years of money that could have gone to athletes that actually cared. Unless anybody has ever wrestle Division 1, it's either black or white. You're either going to do it at 100% or you might as well not do it at all. It doesn't take two years to figure that out, and the coaches have been way too lenient with this type of behavior. Everyone on here wants the team to win right? With athletes and mindsets like this we won't get anywhere.

Ok, so you have some actual skin in the game and sound like you are privy to more info than me. I can appreciate your stance on the matter. I still wish him well and hope he has things straightened out in his life to move on with his wrestling career. I will leave it at that....now let's hoist a frosty beverage and celebrate Memorial Day..shall we?

Valid point - it seems you the know the inside story well.
It wasn't a State secret that Mulligan was, let's say in a nice way, less than enthused to give it his all for Dear Olde Rutgers. Seems having a good time took precedence over the Rutgers wrestling room. It's been mentioned several times on these boards in the past.

Hopefully the young man grows from this ultimately becoming productive in life.I wish and pray the best for him moving forward as many of us have made mistakes and are not perfect.

Kevin was a good kid whose priorities were mixed up for Big Ten Wrestling. He squandered what could have been a great career here which was a shame for him and us. I hope he turns it around and does well there.

Hmmmm.. As usual Bill can criticize the kid, yet keep it very classy...Crackers, it's not what you say... It's how you say it that rubs people the wrong way...

Would you rather me sugarcoat a situation? !This type of behavior hampered our program for years, until goodale came and straighten everything out? Any wrestler who acts like that, should take his medicine from critics. I did four years in the program, had some pretty good success, never once complained even with major injuries. I kept my nose clean, occasionally I went to parties, but my academics and my wrestling career came first. Each kids different. But if you are a talent like Kevin, you knew what it took to get there, and you should know when it's time to hang it up. Not dragging it on for two years. I do hope he has found that Mojo again, because he was a true Talent. But for alumni who put money into the program to support kids like this it's going to anger them. Myself being one of them

Could not agree more ...they all lived in same house but he chose to go the route he did ...partying all the time and he just didn’t care ..it’s not a cheap pot shot if it’s true

What's up with Firestone? Is he healthy? I haven't noticed his name in any of the post season tournaments yet. Or did I miss something? What's his projected weight for next college season?

Unconfirmed:

"New Jersey State Champ (2x finalist) Gerard Angelo is transferring from Cornell to Rutgers, where he will be a greyshirt freshman projecting at 149 lbs next season, welcome home! #UpstreamRedTeam"

from a fairly reliable poster on NJ Wrestling forum on Facebook.

A Bergen Catholic alum . Would make 5 on the roster I believe. Great pipeline.

I'd bet it's confirmed, as he's pretty reliable. Didn't see this coming and not sure what to think. Anyone have more info? He'll have 4 years of eligibility, as he wrestled for FLWC, but I'm not sure whether he even enrolled in Cornell, as it appears he went to Finger Lakes Prep (basically a wrestling school) so he could have 5 years to wrestle 4. He was 8-8 with some weak losses, and was TF in 4:19 by Brayton Lee of Minnesota. He'll need to step it up a lot to be a significant contributor and a blood round or AA.

Yes, confirmed. Yes, he went to Finger Lakes, should have 5 years to wrestle 4. And you are correct 8-8 with some very weak losses and no significant wins. He will need to really improve to help RU. But as Abro says, it helps with the BC pipeline as it looks like they will continue to churn out studs.

I'd be curious to find out what's going on with the Firestone too. I've seen him in a lot of the wrestling matches, but in plain clothes. I assume he's still rehabbing his injury. I'm sure he's going to be in the mix next year for 125. Or if he can't make that wait I'm sure 141 is where he would want to go. I'm just so stoked for aragona and Turley. People will beg to differ, but I think he's ready to go right now, and has a good shot to All-American as a freshman. I'm curious to know a little bit more about this state champion that we gotten from Pennsylvania. Apparently he's a beast. You can't argue with the fact that Goodale and Company are knocking it out of the park

Decent pickup. Probably not costing any money. Could improve the room. Unlikely to start. Best year was high school junior year. Malcolm Robinson beat him at the Beast of the East and maybe another time. Can't hurt the BC pipeline.

Friend of mine told me he saw it on a wrestling page he follows. He has been pretty accurate with information he has fed me. I have to believe it is solid info

Interesting pickup. Seems like mostly a depth play at this point given his less than stellar year last year but you never know someone's situation and how they can develop in 3-4 years.

The bigger plus is the BC pipeline, hopefully we can continue to land more and more of them right out of HS given the success many of them have had here in recent years.

I guess. We have a national champ from BC and plenty of others from there, so I'm not sure this makes much of a difference in recruiting them.

Angelo could be a huge surprise. Not sure what happened last year but ive always been a fan since youth wrestling. Always was aggressive looking to score points. He lost to Benner in finals sr year with a broken jaw, looked like he was in control and got tossed.
Maybe he brings Merola with him

Welcome to R family, Angelo! He will be happy to have all his friends in the room. When the kid with a big upside is happy and relaxed training day in and day out, something special can happen.

He will not be a factor at 125 ...no way no how ...he didn’t make the weight last year before being hurt ..couldn’t make the weight when he was at his first college choice and he won’t make it this coming year ..141-149 is his only option ..at least until NS graduates

Looks like Lightner is down to 202 lbs.
Correnti looked good to me last year when he was in a freestyle tourney.

Interested in who performs better.

MVB at 154 lbs
Lipari at 143 lbs

You don't have to sugarcoat... But you don't have to come off sounding like a jackass either.. This response I am quoting is case in point... Instead of replying like a clown.. You chose to explain your position with references to what you did here at RU and how it relates to College wrestling and college in general... When you post like this, it makes people (including me) appreciate your position on things more (even if we don't always agree) instead of looking for the RUCreedo remarks.... Just remember at the end of the day, we all love RU wrestling!!

Creedo crackers shoots from the lip he tells it like he sees it. Not everyone agrees with that approach but remember it’s a message board not everyone sees or says things The same way.

So you insulted me twice call calling me a clown and jackass and I'm supposed to take you seriously or something? Anymore bulshit you want to talk about? My posts are on point and concise. I'll put the house on it that you have never stepped on the wrestling mat in your entire life, and if you did,you had limited success. Confident people don't have to get their point across by insulting people.
