3/8 BACATOLOGY: NCAA TOURNAMENT ANALYSIS

Fair but Stefanovic 100% tested positive, and Purdue just went ahead and played the three scheduled games without him. Was he just not practicing with the team in the days leading up to his positive test?
I am guessing/hoping that somehow Stafanovic was not in contact with his team during the specified period

I'm just saying the NCAA's rule is that in order to play in the tournament you need 5 dudes. They've left the door open to teams participating without a full (or even half-full) roster.

Looking at Stefanovic timeline

1/22/2021 announces he is positive for COVID
1/19/2021 Purdue plays OSU

Only way the team would be safe if he first got symptoms and a positive test on 1/22 AND the team didnt practice 1/20 or 1/21 (VERY UNLIKELY)

Yup... I remember thinking it was weird at the time but there was never really any outcry about it.

I am sorry. The onus should be on the teams to wear masks and do everything in their power to stay safe. Teams can be almost completely in control of staying safe. It isn't fair for Rutgers to be taken down because Trace Jackson is allowed to play when his teammate has COVID. Especially since it appears Rutgers is going through all the necessary steps to stay safe.

Timeline is here.....
totally wreckless and ignoring science.

Michigan wanted PCR and rapid test for all players, but the tests were useless because they were taken too early.

Obviously it turned out OK, but this was handled incorrectly.

can anyone answer my question have any player actually been really sick or even had symptoms in all of college sports this year
that's a different debate. not saying it isnt a worthy debate.

however for this argument the concept of letting people get COVID isn't on the table.

The rapids are super inaccurate though. Imagine it’s wrong and then FSU has to miss the tourney too due to contact tracing? That’s the problem.
The issue is a test taken too early isn't going to tell you anything.

My son's close contact was Saturday night. He is getting the test right now.

Imagine being the Duke player that shut down the season.

1. The team will know who it is
2. Extremely likely that him getting COVID was completely avoidable

Duke was bussing back and forth between campus (where there is currently an outbreak that shut down spring football) and Greensboro. That was a dumb choice.

well if we lost to Minnesota, we would be in 3 way tie with MD and Mich St and MD would be the 7 and we would play Mich State so that would be an issue right there

we would be helped by Maryland losing too and I think again it would take one win to get in by beating Michigan State

where I would have put RU now with a Minny loss? Probably as the last 10 seed in the same spot Maryland is in now and the Terps would be the next to last 10.

What potential 2 seed would we match up best against.
Bama or WVU. This assume we end up in the 7 or 10 spot.

Did not realize that Maryland has a D-2 win - they better beat Sparty - or they will be 14-13 vs D-1
They would be in the same boat we would have been if we lost to Minn & round 1 of the B1G - glad they are the test case for getting vs us - being one above .500 (if they lose today)

That and the rapids are less sensitive. I know people who never tested positive on them but had mildly symptomatic COVID with positive PCR. The NCAA isn’t changing the rules, so whether or not any of the athletes are getting super sick or not is really besides the point. The issue is that just as we wouldn’t want to put our guys on the court with Indiana with the NCAAs on the line, if there was known exposure in their program, I’m sure FSU doesn’t either. It’s not fair to force them into that position when the price could be disqualification from the NCAAs. Just a bad situation period.

The first four out need to be on stand by as they will get put into the NCAA’s if another team has a Covid issue.

Maryland went on a 29-7 run over the second part of the first half into the first 3 min of the 2nd to flip the tables on MSU. This maybe knock the Spartans down a seed or so?

Down goes Nova! Their seeding is fascinating. Whoever in that bracket gets a pretty big advantage.

so Maryland beats Michigan State to lock in. MSU seeding will fall. I think both schools in the 10 range at the moment.

Nova loses to Georgetown. Remember its body of work. They should still be a 4 but I can see them slipping to 5 too. More importantly this result opens up the idea of a potential bid stealer from the Big East as one of Gtown/SJU/SHU will make the finals

Oklahoma State upends WVU and that could put a crimp in WVU's shot at a 2 seed. Okie State may be entering 3 seed territory

Syracuse falls to Virginia in a spirited effort. I think the Cuse are still in for now but that is going to vacillate over the next few days

FIRST FOUR BYES: GEORGIA TECH, VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH, UCLA, LOUISVILLE
LAST FOUR IN: SYRACUSE, DRAKE, COLORADO STATE, BOISE STATE

FIRST FOUR OUT: MISSISSIPPI, SAINT LOUIS, UTAH STATE, SAINT JOHN'S
NEXT FOUR OUT: XAVIER, SETON HALL, MEMPHIS, MINNESOTA

Ohio State officially eliminates Minnesota from any contention

Florida survives a close call with Vandy

Ga Tech also appears headed to a win after struggling to put away Miami

Wyoming giving San Diego State fits midway through the 2nd half

SJU/SHU battling for their tournament lives

Memphis and SMU who have beaten no one appear on the next four out finally by default to fill up space. SMU has not played a game since February 8 and face Cincinnati tomorrow. There really is no realistic way they can get an at large bid.

Does a run to the Big East final get either St John's or Seton Hall in even though the wins are not real quality?

pretty tough, I give St Johns a slightly better shot than Seton Hall I think, there are alot of mediocre losses for both

will depend on how Mountain West shakes out

Big East getting a 4th team if SJU/SH/Gtown win the tournament will cause a significant shuffle for bubble teams
