APP article: RU losing battles on field and in living rooms...

I'm all in on canning Flood after this year.

But if we beat Nebraska, then win out, including the bowl game? That would be a lot of fun. Any "RU Fan" still belly aching at that point.......

will be a run of the mill poster around here.

You are full of shat. There are least 6 players on the current Temple 2 Deep Roster that turned down an RU Elmer Fudd offer and decided to commit to Temple.

He was talking about the current group of verbals...not the whole friggin roster.
Care to point out which of the guys currently listed as 2016 verbals to Temple were offered by RU ?

I can't keep up. Does that 6 include the QB that people claim we didn't offer when bashing Flood about QB recruits. Or are we allowed to use him for both arguments as we pick and choose?

Nothing new here guys: he's been on the "losing end" of more recruiting "battles" than now, from Day 1, many here just refused to see it!

Nuts. To your credit, you've been all over this from the beginning. ...and coming from you it means something given your normal positive nature.

I can't wait for this year's version of Sam Blue or Rescigno type spin. Posters rationalizing how these overlooked recruits with zero offers were better than those who previously verballed. Then crediting Flood with keeping their commitments, because Michigan and South Carolina were allegedly interested.

Ultimately, his epitaph was written 2 years ago when he was putting together a top 25 recruiting class with RU formally invited to join the B1G. Then it utterly collapsed with pretty much all of the top commits bolting. He then scrambled to put together a class of lesser rated guys, many of whom have already left the program within 2 years of arriving. All momentum from the B1G invite was lost. We now need to make an exceptional hire just to get back to a Schiano level roster despite being in a much better/stable conference.

I'd rather get my tail whooped in the Power 5 than play on a winner in the Group of 4

Doubtless our AD is aware of the increasing proliferation of this kind of article. Hopefully it will help get something done.

You do realize no one wants to spend for a top coach right? A top coach requires money that we supposedly do not have. Big Donors? No we don't have those donations from fans and alumni? No we are the cheapest fan base in the country. Don't believe me the info is out there we are last in giving back and in raising funds. If you agreed with it or not last weeks go fund effort was 8G in two days. We did well BUT so many were unwilling to give or gave excuses not to give. That's telling IMO we are simply not passionate enough to get it done.

You don't see the big picture. There is a lot more to the story than spending for a top coach. Spending for a top coach now is likely the cheapest option in the long run.

That is good news for you then. Getting your tail whooped is going to be a very common occurrence in the Big Ten Eastern Division. The last few weeks are what Rutgers is going to see going forward on a regular basis.......

I'm sure our recruits who read this stuff are happy to hear that they are not very good. Recruiting is one part of building a program. The second and more important piece is developing the recruits.
And Schiano, love him or hate him, was able to develop 2 star kids into football players. Look at the stars on the '06 team. All through his tenure he developed players. So I can't agree that our recruits are bad. I will say they are not developing as well as maybe they could under a different staff.
Now if you get 4-5 star guys, it's possible to build a good team even without good coaching. But with 2-3 star kids, you need good coaches.
To me, Panagos is a good coach and a good recruiter. He has 2 new players at nose, JPO has had to move inside with a RSFR as back up, Mera has been playing hurt most of the year, Turay has not been up to par since camp and yet as a group, they are doing pretty well.
The rest of the staff, for me, is pretty mediocre in developing players.

We've had 16 guys from the '13 and '14 group leave already. That's a lot of guys. 16 out of 48 commits in those two years.

A great coach can take the current players and coach them up and make them great. It says so in the article and gives examples.

Oh no. Haven't you heard ? There are big changes on the horizon. Rutgers is gonna react to a banner flown over the stadium this weekend, fire Flood, and bring in a new coach. One who can restore Rutgers football to its rightful place among the elite programs, start to hand out ass-whippings to those national powers currently on our schedule, and keep our share of that awesome New Jersey high school talent home playing for their state university. You know....just like in the old days.

Great coaches make players better, no doubt. The other thing they know how to do is to hide a weakness on the team. Michigan does not have a great offense. It's average at best but the coaches have included some great misdirection plays in that offense that make it look better than it is. Too bad we don't have someone able to do that.

"Can't wait"? It's been happening for months. Shoot, just the other day, we were told that our RB recruit is a "better get" than the #1 RB in the land, lol! I mean hey I like Sneed, but...anyway that's just one example.

Flood has landed some good players but it's been 'hit' or 'GIGANTIC miss', and the ratio of hit to miss has seemingly been 1:3. Over the last 2 years we've basically lost an entire class to transfer/non-qualifier/dismissal, and as part of such we've lost basically an entire defensive unit (Gross-Armiento, Lott, Stephenson, Boggs, Barnwell, Dailey, Klecko, Liston, Thomas, Blue, Gopre, Ports, the DE from DePaul, Bedell, Internicola and I guess you could add Tyree though I think that was much more on him than us). Add in guys like Aryes, Kraut, Taylor Marini and you're at near 20 people...and how has our defense looked this year???

Joe P.

Our recruiting hasn't been going very well lately, but we'll fix that. We'll turn things around by doing a 360. 1-0 forever.

Flood is a dead man walking and knowing our horrendous leadership, they will keep him around for another year or two just to see how bad it could actually get to save a few dollars. RU needs to make everything hits rock bottom before taking any action, being proactive never even crosses their minds.

Problem is we have the blind leading the blind. last time we were in this pickle we had Mulchahy running the show. Not sure this bunch has the gravitas to attract the right HC even if the funds were available.

The moment Rhule gets a job at a legit program he will do very well recruiting (he always has based on Temple standards). Kids want to play for him and his staff is really great. They don't want to be at Temple though if they have better offers. He would do verrrrry well at RU IMO.

How are the last two Temple coaches doing at the legit programs they went to.
One looks like he's on the way out and the other already got the boot.
Both were pushed as a great choice for the RU HCing job
One even talked up despite his 4-7 record at Temple before BC hired him
Has a losing record at BC now , after being 7-6 in each of his first two years there.
Yet even now some RU fans think Addazio would make a good HC for RU.

Golden didn't last as the Miami U HC , yet some thought he'd be great at RU and a few still do.
Now Rhule is the latest Owl HC being touted as a great fit at Rutgers.
If the Temple HCs were so good before him, why is this Rhule's first good season after going 2-10 and 6-6 after Addazio left.

It will be hard to do a worse coaching search than RU did last time around.

Mulcahy couldn't have done anything unless the RU President (McCormick ) was willing to back him up .
The current President (Barchi) isn't going to support Hermann like McCormick did Mulcahy
If the money and support is there , the right HC would be standing on the sidelines now..

and how did Penn State do recruiting?--oh yes child abuse by a coach and cover ups doesn't seem to affect their recruiting now or in the past and as for Temple--one hit wonders shouldn't impress anyone-- let's see the consistency

Really, would you want to go to school in Philly ? City is a dump. Temple may get some 2's and even a few 3's but the 4's and 5's want a school with a tradition of excellence, not just one and a nice campus to rule.

I was looking at Temple's current commitment list. Not the roster.
If Temple completes the run all the way to the Peach or Fiesta bowl and returns a 4 year starting QB next year it is not going to get any easier. However, that is not the point, the very fact we are arguing about Temple recruiting is the problem. This should not even be an issue, Temple should be a long distance away from us looking back in our rear view mirror. Why is this even an issue, because we have fallen and they have an administration that is all in on football. Heck, they are even trying to build a 35k on campus stadium. Imagine if we had that type of administration, we would be right up there with the conference power houses.

That is right, that is why the 4s and 5s don't come to Rutgers, they go to OSU, Michigan, Penn Stat, etc. Any parent of a 4 or 5 star recruit knows that our current administration is not interested in pursuing excellence in football. We are not fooling anyone.

Madhat,

The "Dazzler" as we called him was anything but a good coach. Good blowhard? No question, but X's and O's and recruiting? Not by a long shot and before anyone questions me that Addazio was the one who recruited PJ, that would be incorrect. It was Matt Rhule that did all of the work scouting and checking him out. Addazio has proven himself this year that he's a lousy head man. Our AD at the time did lousy job of vetting him. That's why he's no longer our AD.

RUforLife,

Plan is 35k to begin with, room to expand it to 45k if and when the day/need arises. Puts the venue on a par with Cincy, BC.......schools like that. I've been telling you guys that our new regime is very proactive. They're Big 10 folks so they've been there and are bringing their vision to Philly. You guys had visionaries. The political and bureaucratic nonsense that goes on in New Brunswick shoved him out the door. Your problem today, like ours was for eons is at the top.

When will the Rutgers "tradition of excellence" get those 4 and 5 star guys to stay home?

Yea I dunno why people think JH is pro Flood. I think she wants him gone just as bad as everyone else.
They think so because he's still here and don't realize that the political landscape here is much different than at a true power 5 school where the AD gets to make decisions such as who the coach will be and how much to pay him and so forth.

Bottom line, without even getting into the Top 10/15 guys, let's say, "fiasco" of late:

We kept 'Cuse, Temple, and Connie, pracitcally OUT of the NJ Top 20 - and from landing almost any kid we wanted - for a slew of years PRIOR TO the new regime taking over. Everything Greg built, on THAT end of the recruiting front, has pretty much fallen apart.

Agree. They're not getting any traction in NJ now. Catholic schools, South Jersey schools, zero. And yet the coaches keep saying Flood is a great guy, great coach but the players go elsewhere.
There was a time we'd get 1-2 of the top 10. Now we're lucky to get 1-2 of the top 25. I think it would have been money well spent if we got the guy that ended up at Michigan. Evidently the people who said HS coaches hated him didn't hate him enough.

This is why I've been laughing the last couple of years at the "great guy...kids love him" crap. It was just that: crap. I don't care if you're the freakin' Pope, if you can't CLOSE, on the best kids - or the kids that were (originally) at the top of your "boards" - it's all diddly!
