Attn: Rutgers upper management/boards/AD etc

There’s a reason almost every major program has no interest and refuses to play Princeton. It’s a major risk / little reward type of game and they are fully capable of taking good programs down.

We on the other hand not only choose to play them, but play them in frigin neutral site locations (Trenton, Newark).

All because of some rivalry that hasn’t existed in my lifetime (35 years old).

As much as we try to be be big time we find ways to be so small time.

Big Time teams beat this Princeton team by 15 and have their bench playing the last five minutes of the game. Apparently, we don't have enough lottery picks to do that.
big time teams are avoiding playing them and thats why Mitch was bitching to nj sportwriters beforehand

st joes scheduled them and lost.

I can't remember ever considering St. Joes to be a "big time" team. Maybe that year they had one loss going into the tournament twenty years ago.

Agreed, I was there in ‘92 and coming off the ‘89 year making the tourney, it actually felt like a weird, underdog story back then, even though I was realistic and knew we couldn’t compete with the big boys as evidenced by our quick exit in the tourney with the loss to ASU. Football also had a 7-4 season back then under Graber. Now, we don’t feel much different as far as success with 2 NBA lottery picks and Schiano has compiled a better roster than back when I was there. We are still eons and eons away from making a landing with the giants. But, I will say, football is in better shape than basketball for the foreseeable future.

you are dating yourself.....no one cares about this game..u know why? because Princeton had 500 fans there, they had 50 fans last year 15 miles away in Trenton. They have no sent fans to the rac since the mid 90s...thats almost 30 years ago.

The rivalry was still big when i was in school in the late 80s and early 90s but by the late 90s it was done when RU entered the Big East. Serves no purpose and by and large we take it up the ass from Princeton whether we should be tougher and winning or not...nothing to gain from playing them
I was answering joey’s question.
I hate Princeton and for me it’s a double whammy to lose to those shits.
Don’t really care if we play them but if we do, we better f’n crush ‘em. I’m 10x more pissed tonight than after losing to any other team.

Yup 32 year later and have things REALLY moved us forward despite window dressing and more money to spend/waste

This saying applies to RU sports……The more things change, the more they stay the same…….that might end up being the title of your Game 13 game recap with this team…..nothing changes and nothing clicks with this group, it is beyond frustrating. Last year’s team was awful and it made complete sense that they sucked, but this year’s team has two great talents (only one is playing high level, winning basketball though) yet they may end up with a record that is very similar to last year. I think I have already gone though the denial phase and today I reached the anger phase of grief, depression and acceptance likely to soon kick in early 2025 with this team.

What makes you guys think everyone oover 60 wants Princeton on the schedule? Guess what you're wrong again, as usual.Seems to me only one guy was an absolute advocate for the game, same Ivy league worshiper you guys kissed up to.

I was there. I don't think I would be able to count more than 100 orange shirts in a sea of 10000 red ones. Beyond stupid to keep scheduling this.
(maybe) put another 0 there. The Princeton folks don't rep the colors like the rest of college sports. They are too sophisticated (their minds) and understated. The 6 sitting next to us were dressed like they had lunch planned at the country club afterwards. Not that's there's anything wrong with that. Most of the PU fans walking past us up the step had shirts simply with the word Princeton on them under their jacks/coats. Just saying ..but I know it was 90/10 RU fans.

And btw..for me I just love good college basketball. We can't beat Princeton so we should take the ball and leave is weak and pathetic IMHO. Trying to engineer a schedule for NCAA chances vs. putting a darn good one together and playing the games is just over the top for me. Not playing another Jersey team 30 mins away...go find other games to manipulate on the schedule.

I get the logic and how most of you all feel. That's just how I do.

Its better to go through the phases sooner than later. The good thing is we will know for sure after the first 4 games of the new year where our fate is headed

Or at the very least play a home and home. Not to make excuses but if this was a home game we most likely win. That's the benefits of a home game. It was clearly not a "home" game for us. I think Davis is the only guy who played last year at the Prudential Center. I'm not a fan of that gym honestly, but that's just my opinion. And the train ride home sucked after we lost.

IF THIS TEAM BEATS COLUMBIA (everything is a big if with this team), they have to go 5-3 in January (not easy), 5-3 in February, and then 1-1 in March, just to get to 19 wins. 19 wins only gets them to the bubble, not even definitively in the tourney. I just can’t see this group pulling off back to back months of 5-3, 3-5 is more likely in both months. This team is now 1-5 in road and neutral games. Even if they win all remaining home games (this is a real reach), they still would need to find 3 road wins to get in. I am nowhere near 100% confident this team will win all its home games based upon the lack of defense they play. If they do suffer losses at home, that means even more road wins are required. This is a team that has really screwed itself at this point in the season, but the initial screwing was by a coach through poor roster construction (Where were the transfers who could play defense? Not one 3 and D Wing brought in?). Hayes and Martini can’t move laterally, and Acuff might move worse than those two at this point as he has my level of quickness (he was injured, but we are getting pretty deep into the season and nothing has changed with him, I still look as quick as him, this is the level of play from Acuff we need to accept at this point, not very good).

I’m a fan of playing Princeton. I like a coach and team that wants to take on challenges.

I actually agree about taking on challenges. Over the years so many fans have complained about soft schedules both in basketball and football. I would rather us play competitive teams and see what we are made of. Stepping up the competition should set higher expectations around here and something we need. I also like playing all of the NJ schools YET they do nothing for us in terms of upside. We SHOULD win all these games by now.

thats not the point, its this particular game has zero upside win or lose. No one under 65 is pining for this game. That we played it in Newark even more baffling
While true, that poster is not wrong. Carino thinks the game should continue each year. Eddie Jordan was the last coach who opted out.

Running from Princeton is not the answer. Playing better – specifically, playing tougher – is. The Tigers beasted Rutgers on the boards. That’s attitude, not scheduling.

This does not rile up the fans?

God some of you are so got dam stupid, I just can't.

If you want to continue scheduling Princeton then please start emailing our future AD to start playing Delaware at MetLife in football.

Our fanbase deserves shitty sports, too many of you cannot see the forest through the trees.

This got dam stupid man is wise enough to know that the 22 year old version of a former RU star football player, who took on the major challenge of starting his own company after college, would have been chomping at the bit to test himself against PU instead of taking an easy victory over a chump team if instead he had been a bball player. Our current players deserve the same opportunities.

Our fans are the most miserable in all of college sports. All have short arms and deep pockets. We have a very small base of fans who actually give two shits and will pay up for quality teams/coaches and we have an administration who acts in the same manner. All small minded.

People would rather keep their costs low and sit in their 100 level seats watching us play the likes of St Peters and win rather than pay the costs to watch us play big time basketball. Same people who probably go home and dust off their trumpet and play the fight song in victory

Coach Pickell should sign contract that he will play Princeton only with the proviso that should he lose the game and/or allow Tigers to score 80 points that this is a fireable offense - which i truly believe it is.

The invoice isn't due until March why worry now

This season: PSU played Penn, Minnesota and Purdue played Yale, Colorado played Harvard, Villanova played Penn and Columbia, BC and Notre Dame played Dartmouth, Kansas plays Brown and Syracuse played Cornell.

and...Nova lost to Columbia and they play Penn as part of the Big 5 and most of those programs are far away from where the Ivies reside and they played them on their home courts?

do they keep scheduling games against programs that have owned them over the years...thank you sir may I have another

We’ve played Princeton 13 times since the 03-04 season, with 7 wins and 6 losses. In that time we’ve never had a winning season during which we lost to PU.

There’s never been a loss to PU that kept us out of the dance. If we’re good enough to dance, we’re good enough to beat them.

Yes,playing Princeton doesn't enhance Rutgers reputation as far as NCAA Tournament selection and in fact is considered as a bad loss.At the same time its a embarrassment that Rutgers can't defeat Princeton after scoring 82 points and having the Prudential crowd supporting them.Princeton isn't afraid of playing in front of hostile crowds because they have coaching and a offensive system that neutralizes opponents assumed talent advantage.

we have only made the tournament 2x in 32 years

The point being that whenever we’ve had winning seasons, and sometimes even when we were bad, we’ve beaten Princeton. They aren’t to be feared or avoided if we are good.

Probably true but the players are not in charge of scheduling and getting put in a no win situation.

I have met plenty of those. People who beat their chest about keeping 100 level tickets during the lean years so they get away with donating the bare minimum to keep them

It’s sad and miserable actually.

I refuse to believe we have poor fans. I also don’t think we have cheap fans.

Instead I believe we have fans that look at Rutgers and think this school owes them more than they owe it….so many still look at it with the RU screw feel.

I truly hope a new president and AD will change this cultural feel as it’s horrible
