Vacating regular season wins and tournament championships. I can't find anything on the internet yet.Once again it shows how hard it is for the clean programs to compete. Rutgers must have been clean as the driven snow all these years, lol.Unreal, unless they get stripped of scholarships for as many years as they cheated ,the whole vacating wins means nothing to me. Their fans still enjoyed the ride, still experienced the thrill.

I agree. Vacating victories means nothing. That's all in the past and does nothing to encourage compliance today. Only things like loss of scholarships, having a post-season ban for a year or two, and/or being forced to refund SU's share of BE's NCAA earnings for the years in question would be meaningful.

It would be helpful to see, if not the actual ineligible players' names, the factors that rendered them ineligible so that everyone is clear on what determines eligibility in the first place. It is somewhat mysterious that only certain victories during a season are being vacated. If a player is ineligible, why not the entire season, unless the individual(s) involved weren't starters or frequent subs.

I'm pretty sure that if a program has to vacate wins, they have to refund earnings from the NCAA Tournament etc., because it is supposed to be as if they never played the game.

Also, head coaches care about their win totals. Some fan bases do too. For example, remember the PSU reaction when football games vacated were given back to them?

The actually put a Paterno win total sticker on the hockey team's helmets. As if Paterno had something to do with hockey.

The NCAA is only requiring Syracuse to vacate wins of games the ineligible player(s) actually played in.

You can determine the players by looking at the new Syracuse media guide. Ineligible player(s) stats must be removed from the basketball team stats. Just check stats for the seasons with vacated wins and see which player's stats are missing. Those are the ineligible ones.

Also, didn't Syracuse already have a post season ban?

These aren't "more" violations, its the same violation as last year. The only thing that is new to the public is exactly what games will be vacated. So when you look at their records from previous years instead of saying 27-7 BE champs, the record now is 0-7. I partially agree with the OP, because you still have the memories of that great BE tourn run with Gerry McNamara, and that is better than losing in the second round. But on the other hand, it will be a bitter pill to swallow when Boeheim would have won his 1,000th game for the school, but will now be stuck in the 900's forever.
One thing that I wonder is if they have to remove the BE championship banner from that year that was vacated.

Boeheim should never be allowed to coach again. If Syracuse doesn't fire him they condone what he did/does.

I believe that may be up to the school.

In the ESPN 30 For 30 on the Fab Five I think they mentioned that the University of Michigan made the decision to take down the banners they received after Chris Webber was found to have accepted impermissible benefits.

Not harsh enough, but good, screw them. They have been rampantly cheating for a long time.
