he couldve very well cost us this game. When he gets the ball downlow, he NEVER passes it out and cant help himself but chuck up something. Hes gotta stop shooting 3's. He was disasterous today.

Sure his stat line shows a double double but he almost killed us today and has done this against any quality opponent we play. Hes gonna cost us some games.

He hustles like a lunatic. He is passionate.. He is 6"6 and fights with guys 5 inches taller and 10 times stronger. He has no offensive game but somehow scores in double figures. Every team needs a guy like D.F .We will miss him next year. He has what is known as heart.I agree with your premise but you are missing the big picture here.

Part of the problem is when you don’t have a lot of offensive play makers, guys try to do more than is ideal.

Gotta take the good and the bad cause it still adds up to an impact player. Just gotta hope New Shaq next year is more of the good.

He played a decent game.

One thing about Freeman though is that he is the teams leading rebounder. When he takes his jump shots, there is no one beneath the rim to grab the ball. He should continue to work his free throws, and do a ton of shots under the basket. That is his bread and butter.

It is not if players score or do well, but WHEN they score. Freeman had a jump hook that brought the game back to 6 or 7. Without that, it might have been a run away on the other side. RU was having issues scoring. Freeman had a big basket.

How about his free throws? Not bad. Coach will tell him to get his shot where he is best from. That is not outside the paint.

The OP raises a valid point. Freeman takes nothing but close range shots but he is shooting well below 30% for the year against RU’s power conference opponents. That is awful especially for a PF. He is a beast on the boards, but his offense is really hurting RU. And his defense is only average on many nights.

True, but he needs someone to tell him what is a good shot for him and what isn't.

This this and this. He takes far too many bad shots. And when he get the ball close to the block the offense is over. He tries to back his guy down, head fake, spin move, stuffed by rim or shot blocker. My issue is even we he gets triple teamed on the block he still just chucks something crazy up. Hes gotta move the ball better. Theres more than just points and rebs. Anyone who watched that game today knows deshawn did not have a good game and in fact could have very well cost us the game with his poor shot selection

we need some inside muscle on offense, he is would be the prime candidate for it.... I don't fault him any more than the rest of the guys who go in for layups, and have them roll off the rim.... he is trying, and I want him to keep it up....maybe one game the short shots will fall,

Freeman's inability to finish under the basket the last few weeks has been borderline comical. I dont care what his stat line says. Its undeniable. But he is just going through a bit of a rough patch. He will be okay. Needs to stop hesitating and go straight to the hoop.

OP just needs to word it better.

He plays very hard and outplays his size. His rebounding is tremendous.

But he does try to create too often when he simply doesn’t have the size or touch to do so. And when clearly defended well, he doesn’t look to dish it outside. Something we need him to desperately do because our outside shooters aren’t the best, and this will generally get them the cleanest looks.

It’s easy to say look at the stat line, but if he cleans some of this correctable stuff, we become a better team. A better team wins more games. This is the first team we have beaten as an underdog this year (I believe). Let’s not pretend he has carried us on his back to upsets this year

Absolutely, he had 12 and 16, Plus a HUGE basket in the low post in the last 2 minutes.....sure, he is not perfect.

Kyk is over exaggerating but freeman has had some opps to pass out of the block and kept for a lower than acceptable percentage

Especially opposite when the double is coming

Pike knows how to deal

And he is captain and. A Warrior and a waking double double so I can with it since their is good shot distribution throughout the team

Deshawn is playing for the name on the front of the jersey and not the one the back ...even with s few less than optimal takes

I love Freeman’s effort on the floor. He leaves everything he has out there for the team, but I do agree about his offense in the post. I don’t have a problem with him trying to get to the hoop in certain situations, but if he can start looking to the open shooters, ever though we’re not a good shooting team, when he is being double teamed, that would help us a lot.

When you look at skill level and experience (and assuming Corey keeps up his smart play), I think that Deshawn in the post is one of and maybe the only immediate improvement we can look for.

Read the same nonsense about Corey for the first month of the season. Your best players are going to take the most shots therefore Freeman is going to take a lot of shots for this team. He isn't perfect, but he is the one of the three best offensive players on this team. Deal with it.

I 100% agree here, the three point shoot should just not be an option, he can’t make it and doesn’t really come close.

He needs to learn to pass out of a double instead of just spinning away and forcing up a hard shot.

He is a relentless rebounder and we would be in trouble without him, just wish he could play more efficiently.

Agree. He was 3 for 14 today. 0 for 3 from 3 and 6 for 10 from the line. I've seen him shoot underneath and not get the ball above the rim many times. Love his hustle. However, Eugene had a better stat line and he only played 20 minutes compared to Freeman's 30 minutes.

Pike knows light years more about bball and motivating players than me however id like to see pike pull freeman when he has one of those back go back possession stretches where hes playing street ball. Just sit him down for a minute and tell him to calm the hell down and keep the ball moving

We fell apart vs fsu without him.. He makes everyone around him play better
Yeah, I mean they went on an 8-0 run when deshawn went down. But 3 of those buckets came on a 5 on 4.

And i vehemently disagree that freeman makes people better around him

I like you, kyk, but...

Stick to football.

Silly Thread.....This thread is right up there with Eugene should transfer and literally cannot dribble the ball.
Come on. Debate it if you want but it's certainly not silly to say that Deshawn needs to be more efficient than 3-16 from the field against legitimate competition and sometimes needs to take a seat when he's playing out of control.

Hey.....This is the biggest victory in years and we get a thread and a bunch of criticism about the guy that just scored 12 and had 16 Frekking Rebounds. Timing is everything.

There is nothing new here,. This is not breaking news. We have all seen Freeman for 2+ years and we all know his strengths and weaknesses. A blind man can see them. Yes, sometimes he takes ill advised shots, sometimes he turns it over in the post. But, he puts pressure on the defense, he makes acrobatic shots at times and he draws a lot of fouls...now he is making foul shots. He is also a great offensive rebounder who keeps a lot of balls alive.
