Yeah, we sucked for much of the 2nd half, going from 55-41 up to 72-66 down, which is a 31-11 shellacking over that time. But the team dug deep made three treys and got a couple of stops and won 75-72 on the most unlikely shot of the day, a trey by a still struggling Geo with 1 second left. So happy for Geo as most of us have been wondering why he wasn't shooting well at all (injury or just in a slump or both).

Don't underestimate the importance of this win, either. This would have been a horrific loss to a bad team at home, which we simply couldn't afford with our margin for error for making the tourney being thin, given how tough our schedule is the last 7 games. Instead it's a gut check win and people will mostly forget that we almost lost. 15-5/6-3 - who predicted that at this point who gets paid to make predictions? That's right, nobody. Playing with house money folks. Need 5 more wins in 11 games, as I'm convinced 20-11/11-9 gets us in, in a really strong year for the B1G, which is doable, but not a given.

So, another game with new heroes. Yeboah was the hero today with 20/7 and some nice defense and Johnson was strong inside with 9/11 and a career high 5 blocks (and needed to see the ball more - too many treys), while Caleb had 12/4/3 (and 2 steals) and Mathis had 10/4/2 and JY had another strong game off the bench with 12, although his TOs in the 2nd half hurt.

Harper didn't have a good game with only 2, but he did have 5 boards and 4 assists, while Geo really stuggled until his two late treys and of course the gamewinner. Not Mulcahy's best game either with only 2/1 and 2 TOs. Shaq didn't do much today either. And Pike got outcoached, I think, but redeemed himself at the end by focusing on Mack and the Viking kid (maybe a little late though); we also really struggled with their zone - need to attack it better.

But a win is a win. Let's do better against Purdue Tuesday night, who is coming off a blowout win against WI. We can do this.

P.S. Don't start threads about how badly we suck and what a horrible loss this game will be before the game is over and it's still a game. It just makes you look bad. Keep that shit in the game thread, where we all whine (some more than others, lol), but it just stays there.

If you think about it this was eerily similar to the Bryant game on opening night. Build up a nice lead against an inferior opponent and then whittle it away and give us all heart attacks

True. And even though nobody would have thought this before the season, this would have a been twice as bad of a loss, considering the tournament was virtually out the window if we lost

The shoe is now on the other foot....there are no inferior opponents in this league....if you dont play well and another team hits shots, you can lose.

When RU was in the 14th place for the last couple of years, imagine having this Nebraska performance happen to you, in the 2nd round of the B1G tournament. We did this and either played lights out or caught teams sleeping or thinking a game was going to be easy.

Give Nebraska credit with nothing to lose and players hoisting 3s, they're dangerous if they make shots.

Not an expert. I don’t recall a lot of zone played against us this season. It would seem like a good way to approach playing us

Nailed it.

And they have some talent: Mack was unstoppable in the 2nd half and Thorbjamarson can shoot the rock.

Yeboah and Miles had to be player of the game. Clutch rebounds won this along with critical defensive stops. Those 2 offensive rebounds had to demoralize Nebraska.

I’m used to us walking out losers in these nail biters. Things have changed nice way to close it out and buckle down.

ugly second half. All that matters is 14-0 at home.

Survive and advance. This was a typical RU WTF game, but I guess this season is different. They found a way to win. Well done!

We found a way to win when we’re generally down and out... enjoy it for it has happened to many other good teams... Rutgers past would have folded like my laundered shirts... in this league no team is safe...up 55-41 that is the questions what happened to the D in the 2nd half...we did score 75 points but getting out scored 31-11 needs to be looked at carefully by the staff and players.

The year NW made the tournament they were tooth and nail with a pretty bad Rutgers team in Evanston before pulling out the win late. Nebraska is well coached now as we were then. The days when their shots fall they are going to be a pain in the arse. I think they find a way to two more wins. Maybe three. Well coached and the players are starting to get more comfortable with each other and a first year HC.

While it was 3.5 years ago for us that should sound familiar for RU fans

Double digit wins are fun, but for a team that's come up short in close end game situations it was great to see them pull this out.. rebounds and a couple clutch shots. Biggest one from the captain and it was beautiful. Whoever went and started or even added to that thread about losing and hoping for NIT with almost 5 mins left should ban themselves

the big question is how a team handles being the hunted rather than the hunter. This is new for Rutgers. They are the ones with targets on their back. Today they struggled with the lead but escaped. Its going to refocus them for the next time.
