Email Hobbs and Baumgartner regarding Battle of the Bronx

I will email them because regardless of what they say, it would be good for them to understand that a large majority of fans polled here do not want home games scheduled at Yankee stadium. Home games should be played home.

I will not be going. I'll never watch another football game in that stadium. Once was more than enough.

Over 80% on NJ.com said will not attend.

wouldn't be surprised if the majority of those 80% were trolls using multiple handles.
Don't know if it's still the case, but years ago you could have 7 forum names there and many NJO.com trolls used them to agree with a bash against RU they put using one of the 7 names they had registered.

The other big thing about Yankee stadium besides no home game, no great tailgating, high cost , travel, poor sitelines (if you go) is that for those (most of whom donate) who sit together in groups but have separate accounts-you get split up for seating. ***If this continues I'll drop my seat and donation because 1)I gave more than I have in the bank without a job (and technically housing) just to renew THIS year while my friends friend(who work and either donate less or not at all) can still easily in our higher PP section.

If Rutgers and Maryland R attempting to create a better rivalry, why the H*ll do it at Yankee Stadium in NEW YORK. Do it once a year (maybe with a 3rd B1G wrestling team???) like the day scheduled for PSU (Princeton wrestling match). Don't know if the dumb thought is to increase wrestling sales but the extra expense for Yankee Stadium could pay for a large chunk of a Rutgers Wrestling Season ticket.

What did she say?
That she gets it...

Anyway...it got a lot of AirPlay on BTN live. Hosts all talking about going and getting NY pizza.
My question is, does the added talk and AirPlay outweigh our dissatisfaction?

RU may get some more national exposure and other B1G fans might tune in to see a football game in Yankee stadium. This seems to be a "thing" in college football. Playing in Ireland, Australia and in a racing track. So, this is our unique venue, and gets us into NYC.

On the other hand, RU stands a good chance of losing home field advantage, as it appear many fans will not attend.

Then again, it is Maryland, which for the foreseeable future, will always be the least desirable conference game on our schedule.

You want to have the fan base go completely bonkers, try scheduling PSU at MetLife.

You have to do things like this every few years to build the brand, get the media attention..create buzz for recruiting.. I think in the future, when Ash rebuilds the team and we can win some B10 games,,you will see a few B10 games moved to Yankee stadium, meadowlands every few years...
I like the idea..you think anyone would be talking about RU vrs Maryland at Rutgers next season on radio, social media,B10 network,,yesterday,if the game was scheduled at Piscataway?

----
I will send an email, not in the hopes that this game is moved home, but to let them know we don't want any more after this

I think this is the best we can hope for.

I think that's a fine idea. And in reading again, I may have been too quick to assume the OP was part of the #NeverYankeeStadium group determined to get out of the 2017 game at all costs. That may or may not have been the case, and I was wrong to just assume it was.

Although I will be at the Maryland/RU game at YS, I, too, would prefer we not schedule these going forward.

I like the idea to promote the brand, gain media attention and coverage. As long as its not every year, maybe every third year..its a a good idea to further build Rutgers athletic brand IMHO.

THAT is just as bad. Even worse IMO.

Sorry, this whole thing is starting to look more and more AAC-ish (or the dying BE if you want) everyday.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to feel the need to "barnstorm" when you are now in the B1G. You have the best brand in College sports right on your uniform.

If the Yankees were offering something upwards of 5M, I could see the "why". But we know this is not the case. So the "why" has become the "WHY?" by most of the fanbase. And rightly so.

The Big 10 is making us schedule games in NYC. They want the NYC media talking up Big 10 sports. Playing games at an iconic landmark like Yankee Stadium is a marketing ploy. I think Hobbs knows it is a poor venue for a college football game. This is about dollars, advertising, exposure etc. It's a marketing gimmick.

The same reason Tennessee scheduled the Va Tech game at Bristol Speedway. They put the field for that game in the track's infield. The fans appeared to be a mile away from the action.

It was a terrible decision to play this game at Yankee Stadium. I hope that Hobbs did everything in his power to get out of the deal without costing RU meaningful money. If he did not, he's as much to blame for it. Regardless, it is a good idea to let him know that MANY RU fans are not happy about it.

How do you know the bolded?

The icon you speak of is now a park next door. This place is not "Yankee Stadium". The only legend who played there is Jeter.

And the dollar thing has already been debunked.

This is not a good marketing gimmick, advertising boon, money maker or even a good exposure idea. But it is a "Same ole Rutgers" type move...get into the B1G and have a HOME CONFERENCE game on the road. LOL

It's amazing that Tennessee and VT can get 156,990 people go to a football game in a freaking racetrack where thousands upon thousands of people had to travel 113 miles from campus and had terrible sight lines because they were so far from the field. 156,990!!!! Yet you guys are complaining this much about a game in Yankee Stadium in the greatest city in the world? Jump on a damn train and subway and get dropped off at the door of the stadium and watch YOUR team play a B1G game. So what that you're a little more inconvenienced.

OP is just wasting his time at this point. It sucks but it's on Julie, not Hobbs as far as the football game in YS. As an RU wrestling fan this is incredible publicity to a team that could end up being a powerhouse program in a few years.

this is fine as long as somebody goes back to the league and negotiates a faster increase in our share as we help drive the revenue, exposure, etc. (I am sure somebody is going to say this was part of the original entry deal but I don't care. )

Are they ever going to do this again? We have been there already...3x already.

And enough with lumping the Bronx in with "Greatest City in the world" crap. LOL

If this game was being played at the stadium that was supposed to be in Midtown, I could see some of your point.

..if you are pissed off about playing at Yankee Stadium.

Sent an email to both Hobbs and Baumgartner this afternoon expressing my disgust with the Yankee Stadium Game. Hobbs did not reply, Baumgartner responded within the hour.

She thanked me for my support and feedback she asked if she can speak with me on the phone about the game. This morning got an email telling me to expect a call early this evening.

Was very surprised that she asked to speak on the phone, but will update once I talk to her.

And I understand that this game is a done deal, I still feel that it is important for send feedback. Even if it is too late to change the game (which it obviously is) maybe they can prevent it from happening again in the future.

It's never too late until kickoff.

Want to show us you "get it"?

Get this moved back to where it's supposed to be.

I withdraw my statement then saying it was a waste of time if it prevents this from happening again. I will say this...even though it sucks for football, this is a huge publicity boost for wrestling who I think will be competing for national championships sooner than later.
