Dousumu of Illinois came back to school, with the evaluation of NBA scouts and many think he has a bright NBA future....but he also needs to be more consistent. The Baylor game for Illinois exposed some gaps in his game.
Harper is a different type of player, he was set up beautifully all night and drained shot after shot. In order for Ron to be drafted, he has to be able to generate his own offense off the dribble against a defensive player, 1 on 1.
When he does that, he not only lands in the league, he becomes a 10 year player. Not sure that aspect of his game is there yet, but tonight's game opened some eyes....he will have the rest of a rugged B1G schedule to prove he's ready for that jump, I don't see that happening 4 games into his junior year.
The other factor about most kids leaving for the league, is the kid being forced to make a financially driven decision, where waiting another year, may not be feasible.....Ron Harper Jr is under no such pressure to chase money in 4 months...I think he plays all 4 years and starts next year as Pre-Season Player of the Year candidate in the B1G.....which in itself would be a very high bar to reach in the best conference this year.
