ESPN Report: Cleveland State to part ways with Waters

The 5th year grad transfer rule killed Waters.

CSU lost Anton Grady to Wichita State, Trey Lewis to Louisville plus Bryn Forbes to Michigan State on a "hardship" transfer.

After 5 20+ win seasons when he 1st arrived he certainly has tailed off a bit the last 2 years
2014 a 19 win season,,,
now Two 9 win seasons

11 years total....
post season 6x...out of 9 in Cleve States entire history
He sent 5 players to the NBA including Rutgers own Quincy Douby
194-172
Gary Waters is 65 years old....salary last year was a decent $340,000
I wish him well

Fun fact Rollie Massimono coached at CSU (formerly FENN COLLEGE)from 1996-2003 and went 90-113

pretty solid career there but he definitely tailed off the last two so it was probably for the best. Wish Gary the best in retirement.

He's a very good man. All the best to him.

who does CSU think it is...it was a wasteland before GW was there. I am far from a GW shill, actually anything but, but I didn't realize he had 5, 20 win seasons--I remember that he won a game or 2 in the NCAAs with Norris Cole...

A good man out of place here. And yet managed to do better in that role than one Terry Shea managed to do. And the RAC was an awesome place to be while he was here. I also wish him the best.

Bryn Forbes played at Cleveland State? The sharp shooter from MSU last year?

Yes. The same Bryn Forbes. He played HS ball with Denzel valentine. Valentine's dad was his HC. Izzo didn't think he would be good enough for MSU but in his soph year at CSU he was almost the horizon league player of the year and then suddenly forbes's sister "got sick" and he needed to transfer home <wink, wink> and therefore didn't have to sit out a year.

Who can post a pick of a Rutgers "Waters Pressure" tee-shirt? I know I have one *somewhere*.

It was the oddest thing.. he promised us full court press and run and gun.. and we got the opposite of that.

But he did produce some big wins, exciting wins. I always found it troubling that his "family" atmosphere thing was so mocked by players after he left.. am I remembering that correctly?

He's 65, so could be just time to hang them up. I know the family a little bit and my guess is that they are going to move on to other things. Quality guy.

Very good career. Very good coach. Always represented RU well.
