"Zero issue," Golic said Wednesday morning on ESPN's Mike & Mike radio program. "Of all the things that have gone on at Rutgers, I'm not putting this in that bag."

The SiriusXM guys on my drive in this morning had the same "zero issue" opinion. The thing they had wrong though is they were under the impression your Alley was shutdown b/c of the "sip heard 'round the ... well Bristol"

Nobody in their right mind other than self-righteous, overly officious, fun-hating numbnuts have any problem with what he did. This is a total non-story and the fact that he was forced to apologize for doing nothing wrong shows how close we must be to the impending apocalypse.

Why was it even a news story or mentioned by the media in the first place?

What's next, Coach Ash used the men's room at 11:45 this morning?

Because all of the news outlets and articles are associating Hoobs' "drinking/downing/chugging" of said beer in front of the rowdy students with the closure of the Alley.

RU public relations once again drops the ball. They should have came out and given more specifics as to why they closed it down.

They should have worked the issue and fixed the security problems (maybe limiting attendance to the first N students) and not closed the tailgate. Instead they overreacted.

To all the fly over country friends that can't figure out why we're in the B1G. At RU "AD Sips Beer" makes national news. We move the needle on interest and viewership. Sometimes not for great reasons, but still draw eyeballs.

using the Men's room is no story.....leaving the seat up after using the Men's room...that is a story.

From the Rutgers University-wide HR Policies & Procedures-
Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy:

Alcohol: Limited consumption of alcohol at university-sponsored events held during the workday or during a traditional meal break in the employee’s workday and off university property is not prohibited by this policy with the exception of safety sensitive functions as described below. While consumption of alcohol as set forth above is not prohibited, any employee who exhibits behavior consistent with having consumed alcohol that renders him or her unfit to perform the functions of his or her position may be subject to removal from the worksite and discipline up to and including termination. For student employees, this may also include appropriate action pursuant to the Code of Student Conduct. Employees are expected to present themselves in a manner fit to perform the functions of their job.

It's ridiculous that this is even a story. How irrational and puritanical must one be to get upset over this?

On a related note, NJ has insane and archaic booze laws.

How long until Hobbs has to resign
Over this
The legal dept will say he had the right to sip a beer but then the powers that be will hire an outside law firm for an independent investigation that will cost millions and conclude that he should not sip beer and insist on his dismissal.

Thank you Golic, especially since ND had a kid fall to his death three years ago. That should have gotten so much more coverage than our AD who had a beer.

The fact this is even a story is comically stupid.

We're B1G now.. Everything good or bad that happens is a story... In other words... we're relevant!! And that's not necessarily a bad thing... Think about it.. Our AD took a sip of beer at a student tailgate.. And its getting talked about on nationally syndicated programs... What's been going on with UConn lately? Cincy? USF? Aint no-one talking about them.. good or bad...

I agree. If anything, this story getting national exposure helps Rutgers. Any rational human being will think that our AD is a normal guy and that helps the program, in my mind.
Was my first thought, too.

On the following scale:

Burning cigarette butt on the ground
wastebasket fire
trash can fire
dumpster fire
towering inferno
forest fire
Great Chicago Fire
Nuclear weapon detonation

I give this a "wastebasket fire"

We won't know what kind of "fire" it is until the unofficial Rutgers dumpster fire watcher Pat Forde weighs in, who has commented on every single Rutgers game in his columns and tweets this season.

As for Hobbs, he should had said that his throat was dry and the beer was the nearest thing to drink.

So the ESPN College Gameday crew can drink hot toddies live on set at Ole Miss two years ago but they are trying to make a big deal out of this? 'Fv#k outta here, ESPN.

It's a "NO fire" as it's a complete non-issue.
