Horrible, they only won by 37! We’re terribly overrated! Get ready for misery! A long season! Do people actually watch what is going on away from the ball?
Well this one started off a little shaky and at halftime it was still a tight game with a score of Rutgers 17, Howard 7, Click Click Boom 13. Fortunately, Rutgers put up some points in the second half and held CCB to only a field goal, putting the final at Rutgers 44, Howard 7, CCB 16.
His RB James shouldn't do The Chop to the student section. And Howard was a bit chippy after that for a few plays too. They earned that beating.
Agreed. And Rutgers did nothing unusual.. just ran teh ball up the middle. Howard could have kicked a FG on 4th on a prior possession but did not.. they opted against the meaningless FG for a meaningless 1st down leading to a possible TD.
Anyone who knows Rutgers's history with Schiano knows we never just run up the score and Schiano never works for the spread as a favorite. This was about the extensive injury list and building experience.
He said Rutgers offense and passing game is far superior to last season. Something like.. Rutgers never could have done that last season... regarding the passes.
That said.. I think Millen is just mailing it in.. sometimes sounding like he knows what's going on.. in particular on particular plays.. but he also had some weird comments. Like after Howard ran over us for that TD he said their OL was winning the battle in the trenches... which simply was not true... and obviously not true. He had another real head-scratcher after. It is weird... the mix of well-reasoned thoughts and thoughts based on a lifetime of experience in football, coupled with.. what.. random things people say about football sometimes? Strange.
Right? How can you NOT see Benjamin and immediately check the injury list. Crazy bad hot take.

As the statistically rated worst QB in D1 last year and comparing him to what I saw AK do in his first game, I cannot fault Millen.
FWIW, I thought Howard is a pretty good team - vastly better than Wagner. They battled hard all game.
AK had some of the best QB play we’ve seen since … Nova. I’m not counting Laviano. However, we need to see him make some long throws at some point.
RB play was superb. The Fun Guy looked great and Sam Brown got better as he went along.

I’m happy with how the game turned out. Looking for more cohesiveness on D versus Akron.

Just about every leading tackler on a team is the LB. It means the DL isn't allowing the OL to get the second level and the LBs are clear to run sideline to sideline and make plays.
Happy to see the passing game improve. I know it’s against Howard but WRs and TEs got open and AK hit all the short passes. The OL did a good job in pass protection.
My concerns. Short yardage situations. Didn’t have that bully mentality like last year’s NW game. D also didn’t look as dominant as expected. I think that’s just due to all the injuries. Hopefully the D gets healthy by VT.

100% correct. Looking at the NFL stats from last season, the highest defensive lineman in tackles (assisted plus solo) came in 75th in the league. Only three of the top 100 tacklers are listed as defensive lineman. Only two of the top 20 are not linebackers, they are safeties. You WANT your LB to be the lead tacklers.

If we were losing to those teams 38-7 with possession and the clock rolling down Greg would be looking for the game to end - full stop.
Howard chose to give us back the ball for another possession. Our entire first unit was on the bench so Greg gave our back up QB a couple live game practice hand off reps and took an opportunity to give a frosh RB who may well end up redshirting a few carries. Isn’t that the point of playing this game? Geez.
if you read my other posts youll see i agree with you. with that said, I can see why RU fans would be pissed if the reverse happened. that's my only point in that post.
