To really understand the 2006 team, you need to be more than a person that just watches scores. We had some really good front end talent on that team and we stayed healthy all year. And at WR, where we did have a couple of injuries, it was the one group that had young depth. But that is what made 06- staying healthy.

You can't emphasize that enough. We lost Taylor and Daniels at WR during summer camp, and Shawn Tucker late in the Howard game. With the first 2 we lost experience but not outstanding talent. Tucker was the only real loss, before his injury he had a great skill set, very elusive. He never came back 100% in later seasons. And, as you said, we had really good young talent at WR who were able to fill in as the season went on.

I rewatched the Texas bowl recently…they were talking about Tim Brown and how he could have had only 4 catches all year when he blew by the defense for a long TD. And they mentioned the injuries forced him into action.

Well our bread and butter on offense really was the running game augmented by passes to Leonard out of the backfield and Harris. Sam Johnson was also a weapon, but he had concussion issues so ended up not being utilized very much in the passing game.

I'm sure there are some that feel Schiano let the program down by leaving and find it hard to support his return.engagement
You are missing the mark. No, those of us who didn’t want Greg back realized his resume for the 8 year hiatus was total dogsh*t and there were many qualified current coaches to choose from but just like UConn with Randy Edsall and the redskins with Joe Gibbs, we just insisted upon bringing in a recycled washed up coach.

The tenures had nothing to do with one another imo.

bring back Greg had more to do with trying to give some life back to the program. Which he had proven he could do. And, he has in fact, done so again.
For me, I never fooled myself he was going to make us an annual ranked team.
I do think we are at a point that he gets next year and then we cut and run. But the next hire has to be a HR

Bring back (or just plain securing) some funding as well. If there was another candidate who could had secured the amount of funding he did I'd like to know who.

There were better options to chose from if one is going by a coaching standpoint.
But those options wouldn't come unless Hobbs committed funding the football program properly.
The only viable candidate for the job that had enough fan backing to force Hobbs to put up the money was Schiano.
The others would have been made to accept as is and that's why they didn't consider the job a good career move.and passed on it.

2012 would have been his best team - at least in terms of raw talent. Flood took that team to one play away from going to BCS. This is all conjecture and it kills me to think about what if - but Schiano probably wins the Big East hands down that year. And who knows about the trajectory of the program if we were in a BCS bowl and the B10 invite later that year. Let’s not forget Flood had a very respectable 8-5 record in the B10 two years later. Schiano himself had said if he could do it all over again he would stay for that team - or something to that effect. 😔

So 77% wanted this. He left and we are a terrible program. Congrats.
